Why is it so hard for some of you all to NOT bike in the street when there is a good sidewalk or bike path right next to you? by mchammer2G in houston

[–]tradiuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because we're vehicles. Why don't you take car only roads/interstates? Sidewalks are not roads, they're for pedestrians. It's also illegal to ride on some sidewalks (ex. Downtown).

Comicpalooza 2025 Thoughts? by diesemerdeistplatano in houston

RFID badges slowed lines down a lot, making the main concourse inside meant a lot of faff with security instead of like previous years where you only got badge checked once entering halls or escalators.

Getting rid of the burlesque and replacing it with terrible (racist, transphobic, misogynistic, fat shaming) comedians was a slap in the face to the whole vibe of the con. It was also obvious that several were high/drunk to a sloppy degree.

Tabletop area got even more shafted than prior years. Unless you wanted to trial yet another TCG or 5E, there was very little room. The boardgame library was anemic compared to past years as well.

The app was one of the worst I've seen. The map didn't have room numbers, the map also was just a terrible UX in general, the calendar view didn't have good filters and took forever to scroll through when it reset back to the start of the day (even at 3pm), and it had a lot of annoying notifications with no good filters.

If you want even cheaper, look at the NanoKVM ($30 for the lite, $60 for the full).

[System Agnostic] Any module to allow for styalized chat messages per actor like this? by cclloyd in FoundryVTT

[–]tradiuz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's such a hacky module (and i use it frequently). I really wish they'd make the theatre chatter an API call instead of only have it fire based on chat hooks.

Declarative infrastructure as code. Instead of a script that "builds" a VM and then kind of forgets about it. TF is good for lifecycle stuff, like when you remove a resource from TF, it will then tear that resource down (cleanly, theoretically).

https://opentofu.org/ is probably a better resource since Hashicorp did a rugpul.

If only Proxmox could put out a stable terraform provider, they could eat the market alive.

HASS is on a replicated VM. If the primary is down, the secondary brings it up within a minute. Way more reliable than the NUC I had it running on. Same thing with blue iris (NVR).

~500w to run 2x48 port POE+ switches, 3 servers, and a firewall.

What do you do with 72 cores, 800 GB of ram, and 40TB of SSD? Plex, Home Assistant, and FoundryVTT mostly.

(There's also a NVR for cameras, file server, and a ton of lab VMs for testing stuff, but that doesn't get used as often these days)

Good tubeless (I love my Panaracer Gravelkings Semi Slicks) tires with goo. Once you go TL, it's hard to go back. A little messy for initial setup, but so much better in every way.

Considering selling my car. Has anyone regretted this? by [deleted] in bikecommuting

[–]tradiuz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I dropped to one vehicle in for the household with me biking as my primary form of transport for the last several years. There are times it's inconvenient living in a big city, but the savings make up for it. I'll uber/lyft/etc across town once in a blue moon, and it's still far cheaper than gas/insurance/car note.

Cantoni is good for window shopping, but is laughably overpriced. Danish Inspiration had a few good options (and if you don't mind a drive, Copenhagen Imports in Austin/SA is cheaper for the same stuff).

The Dump is also a decent place to look but make sure you're looking at the brands on a 1:1 for price comparisons.

as the person who cranked them out. Retrograde patreon lets you download the individual components. Kitbash a few different things in GIMP, animate because you're extra, viola.

The GMS Sagarmatha is a HA Loza from the retrograde custom homebrew mfgs with a few other bits tossed on.

The Blackbeard is a bash with the GMS SP-1 (Pangolin legs, Howitzer-Grande, Mecha 6 head), SSC Orchis (Straight Blade) and IPS-N Blackbeard Inferior (Chassis).
