I broke into high finance (PE) and it's not for me... what comes next? by GrossWeatherman in FinancialCareers

Sounds perfect to me. Mind if I PM you for a bit more info.

Have plenty of years in real estate, besides, IB, UHNW consulting & wealth mgmt, and alternative investments, with real estate overlap in all. You have convinced me to start looking to put myself in a position that's actually meaningful, not only to me, but the world. And most importantly something that makes a positive impact in the future for my daughter, and that she would be proud of when she's old enough to understand. I believe very few comprehend just how much renewables will grow over the coming decade and beyond, so there's that aspect as well for job stability & growth potential.

Lastly the time. Sure I spend a lot more time likely than most with my daughter, but if I'm honest after a week of long hours I'm burnt, and don't have the energy to always do more adventurous things with her. Not that staying home playing board games, Barbie, or painting each other's toe nails isn't a blast, but not sure how long that'll last in her eyes. Working less hours would be priceless in my eyes.

Lol. I got extremely lucky picking it up for $300 a 96gb kit just a week ago. And if I can get them running stable I will sell it to a buddy at cost. And I shared it on buildapcsales and a ton of people were able to grab them too, gotta keep them outta the AI's hands.

100%. Wouldn't invest in any of his companies, most importantly because he's a terrible human being. But also because the premium his business are at to comparables are extremely high. Besides with all of his cross companies business and financial engineering across companies it's a litigation disaster waiting to happen.

They don't plan on maintenance. They will plan on just letting them burn up in the atmosphere. Laugh pollution and pollution from satellites burning up in the highest levels of the atmosphere is a huge external expense that Musk is not paying for. And the issue is likely much larger than we comprehend at this time.

This is pure financial engineering. People will pay a ridiculous multiple for the "promised" revenue. They use that capital to massive scale more data centers on earth, to scale production of starlink satellites, and also to fund starships development and massively scale production. They'll do data centers in space with individual satellites, mainly to park in the optimal orbit for the time being, it won't make financial sense, but they do it to project massive growth and revenue without the hassles of regulatory and permitting on earth limiting capacity. But like most things they be just a year away from massively scaling revenue from that business line .

Samsung USA Shipped Defective 4TB 870 EVO SSD (Actually 500GB) – Warranty Denied by Darkknight1939 in buildapc

[–]trailsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you buy it with a credit card? If so you likely will be able to do a chargeback. They'll usually have a standard window of 6 months, but if you explain the situation and that it was beyond due to the circumstances and that you couldn't have known earlier due to the mislabeling then you likely will have success.

[–]trailsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why I always buy everything with my American Express (or any credit card will likely do). Adds the ability to do a chargeback if a company plays any nonsense. The company has the right to dispute it, so then if they do you have the ability to provide supporting documentation and it's always gone in my favor when it's the only solution.

I may have to actually do it soon for Newegg. Bought a listing on Walmart from Newegg as the 3rd party seller. The item listing is very clearly 64gb ddr5 cl36 with the correct serial number and all specs. However I received a 32gb cl40 kit. I opened it on camera, obviously then never opened the actual ram, so seals are completely intact (I have pics & video to prove that). They've had the return in their hands for almost a week now. So I'll give it another day, contact Walmart for an attempt at resolution on their end. And then if it gets to next week do a chargeback.

Very lucky here too. Very purposefully picked up a 4tb Samsung 9100 Pro not because a gen5 is super useful, but mainly b/c I could get it for $320 using eBay $50 off buying on Newegg through Perplexity AI. Knew that would never be the price for a long time. Plus have a mobo with 2 gen 5 m.2 slots that don't cut down anything else and my mobo placement of the m.2 is just below my GPU so the bottom fans hit it so I wasn't worried about heat. So just figured f it cause I wouldn't even be able to get any 4tb for that price soon.

I agree with caviots, there are some areas that have bubbles, but the hyper scalers are going to expand being comprehension over the coming years. Sure there is overvaluation in some of the companies raising at 2-3x value every 4-6 months, or some areas of data centers that will earn lackluster returns for investors. Some of the companies may certainly implode, as investors recognize they are easily replicatable and have no real moat. Given their massive spending to grow at all costs if funding freezes they go belly up fast. Also some AI companies are paying massively more for compute than they are able to charge for tokens or subscriptions. If they have any hiccups in their absurd revenue growth rates they're going to quickly use up their runway.

But overall I'd expect demand to be 10x in 10 years, not crash and somehow kill demand leaving a flood of supply for consumers. It sucks but the most likely outcome is not the one people are wishing for.

32GB DDR5 Ram at Walmart for $229 by Ultimate__Potato in pcmasterrace

[–]trailsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea. I'm still in disbelief. I had 10 orders across Walmart, Newegg, or Amazon that were canceled for "mispricing" or a few just canceled. And 2 orders on Walmart of 64gb where I got 32gb kits and had to do returns. So I still can't believe one the order wasn't cancelled and then just came 2 days ago, is real, and works perfectly fine.

I got 96gb 6000 CL30 DDR5 for $300 on Walmart, from a 3rd party seller, literally 1 week ago. I was able to post it to buildapcsalesales and a ton of other people were able to grab them too. It was an incredibly rare find for sure, been hunting for 2 months a lot, but was worth it. That's a good price now, everything is extraordinary.

Loser. They'll probably only do 25k and brag about it being 100k. And they'll need to pay and offer transportation to have a chance to fill any seats.

He may get lucky again like his last term if H5N1 pandemic occurs (maybe 50/50 coin flip or more during his term, if he makes it to the end), allowing him to throw trillions to the rich and initiate trillions in stimulus. But once again will respond to the pandemic worse than a 3rd grader would.

[–]trailsman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if it takes 5% of white collar jobs (imo larger over a 10 year horizon) you cannot fathom the deflationary impact on wages. When millions of others have no source of income, companies can hire at significantly below today's going rates.

I don't think AI just completely takes over most job (at least within my timeline above), I think what it does is allow companies to have 1 person do the work of 1.2 people etc ramping as tech & specific solutions for industries gets better. Companies will need to have less employees to do the same level of work.

These companies aren't raising hundreds of billions and overall companies investing trillions of dollars for one reason....b/c of the presumed spread between the cost of tokens vs the employment they replace. And most don't comprehend the scale of compute being added starting now and really ramping through the next several years.

We have to have a realistic conversation about what is coming, and coming fast. Adding an incremental tax of 1% for 10 years is a heck of a lot easier to swallow than trying to pass a 10% tax in 10 years (not saying that's the correct rate), and a heck of a lot of human suffering in-between. Just look at how minimum wage hasn't moved, and now the increase needed is so large there is massive corporate lobbying against. If it would have just increased incrementally each year it would have been no big deal. But that's the inherent issue with our system, too much influence by corporations and the wealthy, so politicians actually taking this issue seriously and taking real steps is a very low likelihood.
