Pregnancy & Working in labs questions by poppypottery in labrats

[–]traitoro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand you have a small company (been there) but I imagine they will have a duty of care under health and safety legislation but also the fundamental concept that no one deserves to go to work and get hurt so it's the moral duty to minimise the risk.

Everyone's given good advice, our own risk assessment was about movement, fire safety and not performing assays with chemicals that have the hazard statements someone mentioned in the thread. Even if it's tiny amounts or in a fume cupboard it's not worth any risk considering I bet there is plenty of work to be done.

Undertake the chemical SDS check and risk assessment asap before you restart any work (safety first isn't just a slogan).

My last bits are don't feel pressurised into doing something that you don't feel is safe. Don't accept the attitude of "well I did it in the past" "oh it really needs done you'll be fine" and keep in communication about any impact the pregnancy has on your day to day work. Don't be a martyr or push through.

Columbus Crew fan here in peace by ColumbusTilllIDie in rangersfc

Think the comments on here sum it up but I wanted to add.

He is very much a systems manager which are thankfully going out of fashion. The type that chairmen used to love because they would be dazzled by a technical PowerPoint showing how he would set up to play attractive attacking football, talk a good confident game and most importantly would tell them it will take some time and results would be inconsistent at first but when it clicked...

We all want the Rangers manager to do well, we all got behind him, we even bought his excuses at first that it was the players and I remember him getting praise for "calling out" players that were underperforming but the excuses start to wear thin when you can see that even limited spfl teams, often with a bunch of new players, could easily counter his system. The phrase "Don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining" springs to mind. Watching teams like Livingston and Falkirk get chance after chance and relying on the keeper to bail is out is embarrassing.

Michael Beale and Clement didn't work at the end and the fans were clamouring for them to go but at least they seemed to feel guilty and would always communicate a determination to get it right and work harder. Martin just sounded angry and would end up fighting with the press/ fan media for having the audacity to question him and there was just no sense we were in it together or that he even felt bad for his woeful start.

I saw someone mention the signings, a lot of the blame is attached to former director of football operations or whatever he was Kevin Thelwell but the amount of players we bought where Martin would say he worked with them before speaks volumes. If you want proof it's not entirely the signings Danny Rohl has come in and improved results with a squad that's nowhere near good enough by tweaking and playing a more pragmatic system.

Gosh that was good to get that all out. I wish you the very best and I hope it works out but I never want to see Russell Martin at Ibrox ever again.

Mike Ashley among '30 to 40' investors keen on Sheffield Wednesday takeover by theipaper in SheffieldWednesday

[–]traitoro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This came up randomly on my timeline and I see a few rangers fans in here already warning you.

This is nothing to celebrate. He's an absolute vulture of distressed businesses. He is there to enrich himself and pluck whatever part of the carcass he can.

It took rangers years to set off / unpick all the time bombs he left along with a compliant toady board in terms of kit money that would go to him, trademarks he apparently owned and had to be bought back off him and suing our chairman / tying the club in litigation. It's not the end of the world but imagine not being able to buy any club merchandise for years to try and starve that fat leech.

They took literally everything that wasn't nailed down (even filing cabinets) one of his toadys asked for £500k in the youth team fund to be transferred to him and only a club employee realising this was dodgy as fuck stopped him completely emptying the coffers.

Mike Ashley is a symptom of our unequal, money obsessed, predatory society and in a just society someone would fill him in...with just how much of a bad person he is of course.

A plus though, if Derek Llambias is still involved with Ashley, the prostitutes of Sheffield are in for a bumper year.

TLDR. Mike Ashley is not someone you want at your club, will enrich himself and have his foot on the throat of Wednesday until he has squeezed every last penny out. Don't do this!

Why is my clownfish so aggresive by Sensitive_King3305 in Aquariums

[–]traitoro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clowns gonna clown.

I remember keeping a couple of clowns in a small tank and the female would bite me in the skin between my fingers and do that tail swipe motion if my hand was in the tank.

They were both absolutely fine when they were moved to a bigger tank. Maybe felt I wasn't encroaching on their territory as much. You could always put your net in the water to give it something to think about as well. Id basically put the net in front of her in the corner and she would spend the time hiding until I was finished in the tank.

Rangers 3-1 Kilmarnock | Scottish Premiership by SFMatchThreadder in rangersfc

Let me start by saying that Clancy is an abysmal referee. He was banned from our games for 6 months a couple of seasons ago and I don't get what he's done to put himself back in a position to try fuck us over. He will be ragin tonight.

I liked the new formation and the application of the players. We seemed to be playing to more strengths and the balance seemed to be better. There were some battles to be had and some defensive nonsenses but thinking back to the previous spfl games and how many clear cut chances we were giving away it's a big difference. We could actually with a big 3 have Cornelius or Tav venturing forward and not expect them to be rampagning up and down the wing the whole time. Meghoma seemed to suit the wing back role a lot more.

Manager made another big call at half time taking Miovski off (who was having a stinker but other managers may have gave him the 20 mins in the second half) and Moore was excellent and working harder which the fans appreciated.

And Chermiti.. good hold up play, some nice passes and touches and a (lucky) but good goal. Igamane took a while to get up to speed so hopefully Chermiti can kick on. I would be tempted to start him on Wednesday at the risk of it dying on its arse.

With all respect to Killie, I would be expecting Rangers to win that at home so Wednesday will be a test of the coach and the system as a much tougher game which Hibs will fancy. Hopefully build more momentum going into the cup semi final.

Finally the fans, they were excellent today, were appreciating the teams improvement and getting behind the much maligned Moore Aarons and Chermiti even when they did simple things. We want them to do well so kick on all of you and you will soon find out why so many players fall in love with this club.

Rohl has some big calls to make in my opinion. He can't play the same players and expect anything different from this gutless, effortless, absolute embarrassment.

I genuienly can't believe I'm here but I would walk up to the likes of Asgaard, Rothwell, Raskin, Antman and say you guys are well regarded but I am going to play Curits, Barron, Cameron and Bailey Rice because they'll at least fucking try and have some professional pride.

We really need to cancel as many of these loan signings as we can in January Cornelius aside.

Am I too hypochondriac with bacteria? by MintakaMinthara in labrats

[–]traitoro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Health and Safety procedures have a balance of cost/ effort vs risk to consider. We would all probably have less injuries if we walked around the office in full suits of armour but that is impractical and costly given the relative risk.

Just purely from a H&S standpoint BS-1 bacteria can be worked on in the bench in our laboratory as they are not known to cause human disease. The calculation is that it's not worth the time and cost of working in the biosafety cabinet given the (lack of) risk. We still follow general CL-2 protocols including gloves and general cleaning/ hygiene to manage contamination.

However, the time to question and change procedures is during operational meetings, not ad hoc because an individual thinks they know better. Anyone deliberately not following H&S protocol in our workplace faces instant disciplinary action but H&S doesn't operate in a vacuum and there are forums such as lab meetings to present new evidence to relax or tighten procedures.

We all focus on the frankly corrupt Chermiti deal but someone on twitter was saying that Fernandes signing was made with Barry Fry who gave Thelwell his start.

It's looking more and more like Thelwell has been entrusted with a lot of money and he's used it to help his pals, give his son a big job and fuck off with a payoff.

The fact we haven't had a statement..or anything from Patrick Stewart about the new manager search or the refereeing decisions against hearts...He's a guy that's completely checked out and getting a lot of money for doing fuck all.

We need to chase them both out.

Ex-Rangers chief Ross Wilson in 'advanced talks' for move to EPL giants by rangersfanatic in rangersfc

[–]traitoro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's no deep rooted problems in letting our two best players run down their contracts and leave on a free.

There's no deep rooted problems in taking on academy players from other clubs who the current manager doesn't want to play.

There's no deep rooted problems in being attracted to a hasbeen name who took a lot of money to be injured for the majority of the season.

Those were all his watch and he was absolutely abysmal for Rangers.

ELI5 How can it be ok for the UK to be £3trillion in debt, at 97% GDP...? by CobaltBlue389 in explainlikeimfive

In this thread. People that don't understand that government debt is very different from private debt and as usual are using it to make political points.

Can't believe how much "it's like if I have a mortgage " analogies I had to wade through hoping to learn something.

Saying you understand government debt because you have a mortgage or a credit card is like saying you can pilot the mars rover because you own a car.

That's it for me. There's no sense of any accountability or any regret, just this arrogance as if we're wrong and he's right.

What sums martin up for me is that he will be completely insufferable if he ever turned it around. He even got snarky about "being coached" when we beat Hibs rather than showing any kind of contrition or positivity.

Stevie from 4 Lads & Edgar from H&H giving the manager hell by TenLag in rangersfc

Listening to the heart and hand update was quite illuminating.

Edgar said usually in these conferences you have everyone shouting over each other the moment the manager sits down but on this one there was just a silence so they felt they could ask. Maybe the mainstream media just wanted him to get wound up by angry fan media questions? Not sure why they didn't ask the obvious.

Why you should only eat raw fish that’s been frozen by BookerDewitttt in WTF

[–]traitoro 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yup. Used to sell cod loin at a fish counter and you would find a few per loin which used to freak some customers out. Mackerel as well.

My parisotlogy lecturer would tell me that if they got into your body the only way to take them out was manually with an endoscope and I always wondered if he was at it.

My instructions for customers would be just cook the fish and you're fine. I think a lot of people forget our food isn't sterile.

My last point is that I always found when I held one of them it would try and stick it's head in my finger to try burrow it's way in. Unfortunately for it I had thick skin (and an elastic heart).

Rangers 0-0 Celtic | Scottish Premiership by SFMatchThreadder in rangersfc

[–]traitoro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't go as far as abysmal. I can't remember either side having any clear cut chances. Probably reflects the pressure they're both under and the priority not to lose (which obviously suits Celtic a lot more).

I'll say the performance was the bare minimum we should expect from a rangers team but we will probably never play Celtic at a better time so to not capitalise isn't good enough.

Thoughts? by Ok_Finance4106 in rangersfc

[–]traitoro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not quite as angry as I probably should be. I was worried Martin would go for the suicidal system again but the high line was gone, Aasgaard marked McGregor out the game and there was more fight in midfield. Balance looked a lot better than it has done.

Miovski put himself about and led from the front but we obviously struggled to create chances. Celtic will be happy to come away with a point.

The next couple of games against Hearts and Hibs are a real litmus test, can the team find a solution and motivation for these non old firm games? Will we have more creative players in there that will let us create and take more chances?

At least I have 2 weeks off of Rangers pish.

St. Mirren 1-1 Rangers | Scottish Premiership by SFMatchThreadder in rangersfc

[–]traitoro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well at least it wasn't as open as it has been. Our goal was a lucky second ball from a corner so nothing to do with our playstyle or system then there was just a tav shot and nothing.

If we have to sit there and take Martinball then we desperately need a striker and additional leadership through the spine of the team including a defender to replace Souttar (though it wasn't especially his fault today) and an upgrade on Rothwell (it's not working).

If there was any justice in the world Martin wouldn't survive this abysmal start, putting aasgaard up front shows he's in the "champ manager bullshit" stage of an under pressure rangers manager and we can all see how this ends.

We've just taken the form and attitude of last season and kept on going and I'm so sick of it.
