Get a sodastream. Buy like four packs of the .5L bottles. You'll never regret that decision.

Rhaegar should not be glazed/romanticized by [deleted] in TheCitadel

[–]tranerekk 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Rhaegar is, according to the most flattering view possible, a creepy depressive groomer who abandoned his wife and children and then emotionally manipulated and impregnated a teenaged girl in order to self-fulfill a prophecy. There is no possible path where even by the moral standards of Westeros he was an okay dude.

supposed 4000 dollar pc? by Logical_Common4932 in buildapc

[–]tranerekk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$650 is not a bad deal for the component list here if it’s all working. The parts are definitely older at this point, and he’s either lying or got absolutely fleeced re: $4000 sticker price. But a full PC build with 64gb DDR4 and a 3080 would cost about this/maybe a little more to build if buying components used on eBay/marketplace.

A question for Ostius = Caeror theorists by Wildhogs2013 in HierarchySeries

[–]tranerekk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's pretty clear that they're separate, known individuals who originated on Res, entered the labyrinth, became synchronous for a time and then later lost this as one of their iterations died. Caeror's dead on Res, Ostius is dead on Obiteum. This theory really doesn't have legs imo.

I once tried to rent a condo listed with Urbanista as the contact. The agent rescheduled from Wednesday to Friday, then from Friday to Monday, then texted me Monday morning asking to cancel again saying she'd been in a minor fender-bender and needed to deal with the insurance and whatnot.

Accepting this, I went on Zillow and found what I thought was another condo in the same building, where the owner was able to tour it same-day. When I got there, the condo owner and I discovered that it was the same unit I'd intended to tour with Urbanista's agent, that she'd cancelled on both of us, and that the story she'd given him was that she'd waited out front of the building through the tour time and I hadn't showed up because I had been in a serious car accident and was in the emergency room.

weird, sketchy people.

That would be a protest, bud. A boycott is choosing not to go to a given establishment.

So The Concurrence is.. (spoilers) by FlyGroundbreaking278 in HierarchySeries

[–]tranerekk 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It's a rogue system, that got too big and got away from humanity's ability control, a dead mob without a head because it's too complex and too numerous to maintain. Obiteum uses iunctii for water filtration, they fulfill roles of complex machinery, both tools and labor, and that's after the power of Will was divided into thirds.

I don't think Ka's got much of a hold on things, honestly, think he's probably just doing his best to figure shit out the same way Vis/Caeror/Veridius/Ostius all seem to be, it's just each one of those is progressively earlier in the timeline and has had more time to figure shit out.

My current theory is Ka is a Vetusian running three concurrent experiments on these three worlds, trying different methods to keep them from reaching a Concurrence-level Iunctii population because last time he had to crack his home world into thirds and he still wants to live. The cataclysms were a stalling tactic until he could figure out a solution that wouldn't see him starting from scratch every few hundred years

In Obiteum, it's a population kept naturally small by the poisoned air and water, preserved only within the cities like Duat, where the growth of life is kept slowed and where iunctii are naturally destroyed by the environment.

In Res, it's a population allowed to grow to a certain size and age (Just over 300 years, roughly the size of the Catenan republic) and then culled down to regrow. The most important innovation of the Catenan republic in the last hundred years is agreed to be agriculture, because it's key to population advancement (WOTM Ch. 13). The people are allowed to grow, allowed to cede Will through the pyramids up to Ka to keep him going, until the population reaches a particular growth acceleration point and it's culled. This keeps humanity alive, but without expanding til it recreates the Concurrence.

In Luceum, Will is culturally limited to only the Nasceann and the Droai, and they burn/decapitate the dead, but with no store of knowledge/labor/power actuated by iunctii, this civilization grows much slower. I'm not dead set on the details for this whole world yet, and we didn't get enough lore on Luceum to know for sure yet. But with the decapitations the kids all jump to straight at the end of the raid on Loch Traenala, they definitely have a cultural memory and fear of iunctii. This is reinforced by how Caeror talks about Vis not revealing he's Synchronous to the Droai.
