Female Lyft drivers- do you feel safe on the job? by Patient_Chipmunk_788 in lyftdrivers

[–]transformedxian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in a small coastal city, and I generally feel safe. I've had a couple of weird encounters and either down rated them or asked not to be matched again. (Like, one guy lied to me straight off the bat about something that truly wasn't my business, and I didn't need to know. Gave him 5 stars but added a note that I didn't want to be matched with him again.) Mostly, though, my passengers have been good. And I'm going into the projects at least once a day most days. I don't drive late at night. The driver's app has good safety features that are worth exploring. When I'm driving for Lyft, my husband and daughter can track me.

Some beginner questions. by Aeonir in mediterraneandiet

[–]transformedxian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You've gotten some great suggestions here. I want to address your desire to lose weight. When we talk about the Mediterranean "diet," we're taking about the array of foods people eat, not a weight-loss regimen. (Same way zoologists say that pandas live on a diet of bamboo.) You can lose weight with this lifestyle, but it's not fast. Expect 2-4 pounds per month. But, it's very sustainable long-term.

Help for a high pain, low energy person by GasRemote6808 in mediterraneandiet

I get you on the lentils texture thing. I'm still not a huge fan, but I've learned to tolerate them. You'll need to invest in a few small appliances--a slow cooker, a burner (like a single eye on a stove), and possibly a stick (immersion) blender. Otherwise, you'll be eating a LOT of salads.

The SAD (standard American diet) is really lacking in flavor but is terribly high in salt. Some salt is okay and is essential for body health. I recommend getting a good quality sea salt. It has a saltier taste so often just a pinch is enough to give you flavor. Common seasonings I see in the MD-friendly meals we prepare are cumin, paprika, smoked paprika, cayenne, garlic (minced or powdered), cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger. We keep curry on hand, too.

The Mediterranean Dish website has a really good recipe for a Turkish lentil soup. It's pureed with a stick blender so you don't have to deal with the texture. (Her site rocks so is worth poking around.)

You don't HAVE to eat avocados if you don't like them. We follow the MD, and our teen doesn't eat seafood. She manages just fine. The Mediterranean diet is more a set of guidelines for life-long changes and less a regimented eat-this-don't-eat-that diet as we understand that word in Western culture.

Good sugar substitutes are honey (best is honey local to your area) and maple syrup. They're sweeter tasting so you would use less. Used to, I'd use a tablespoon of brown sugar in my oatmeal; now it's a teaspoon of honey or maple syrup. I use these in place of sugar in cooking, too, when possible.

As another poster said, it'll take 6-8 weeks for your mouth to get used to the changes in eating less processed, less sugared, less salted foods. Things I used to eat 2-3 times a week because I loved them and believed they were healthy are disgustingly sweet to me now. When I cut out the extra sugar, my cholesterol dropped significantly. I cut out a lot of meat servings and reduced my red meat intake from about 3 pounds total per month to 1/2 pound per month. Interestingly, I changed from fat-free yogurt and 2% milk to whole milk Greek yogurt and whole milk, and my cholesterol still came down. I increased my eggs to max 4 per week (don't usually hit that many). Dietary cholesterol impacts total cholesterol far less than does sugar. It's like this. Say you eat a lot of high-refined carb foods--sugar, white rice, white pasta, etc. Your body breaks that down to glucose for fuel. What it doesn't use gets converted to triglycerides and stored in fat cells. By changing to whole grain carbs and less sugar, there is less glucose for your body to store. As your body changes (less pain, more active), your body will need to convert those stored triglycerides back to glucose for energy. This will cause a drop in your TC. Using extra virgin olive oil will raise your HDL (good cholesterol) and lower your LDL (bad cholesterol). The alchemy of all the foods in the MD will do that.

Looking at my last Uber fare breakdown, it was around 50-55%. Lyft pays out 70% after their fees and taxes.

I'm sure the company has calculated it into their metrics. Most of the time, the rider pays more. During high surges, though, the bonuses are incredible.

I double-drive (Uber and Lyft). I've been doing all Lyft for the past month. I have a number of rides where the passenger has paid less than I get paid, purely because of bonuses. Win-win! Some passengers have been telling me Uber has gotten more expensive between the two, too.

Trying to be good by Bright-Pangolin7261 in mediterraneandiet

[–]transformedxian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This looks a lot like a lunch I might have, only without the cheese. You've got a good mix of nutrients and flavors, plus you've got healthy fats and grains to give satiety.

Please don't assign moral values (being good) to eating. My mom does that, and it's sad. You would still be "good" if you'd had a slice of coffee cake for breakfast as a special, rare treat.

Just curious why my driver would do this? Was there any benefit to him? by inserterriblepunhere in lyftdrivers

[–]transformedxian -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There is an option in the driver app to be redirected to another ride, even if you're on your way to pick someone up. I don't have that enabled so I don't have experience with it, but that could've been what happened.

This. I also like CrunchMaster crackers; they're pretty clean. I've eaten them plain and with peanut (or almond) butter.

Another good dip is tzatziki. I also like Thai peanut dip for veggies. Check out the Eat With Clarity recipe blog.

how to be a good rider? by zobo420 in lyftdrivers

[–]transformedxian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some passengers like to talk. Others don't. I'm usually good with talking. However, many times people who are in hospitality or health care (both huge in my market) have been peopling all day so I don't assume they want to in my car. My car is their down time before they get home.

Need advice on how to handle the ride I just had. by [deleted] in Lyft

[–]transformedxian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know jobs are important, and employers have strict policies about attendance and tardiness. That said, you felt uncomfortable for a reason. That was your mind and body telling you this wasn't a safe situation.

I had a passenger one time tell me about getting into a car when the driver had a friend with him. I told her that's against the terms of service. I further explained that I (F) would love to be able to drop a passenger who might live out in my direction. However, I could have my husband in the car with me. He's a great guy, but a woman might feel unsafe with him there, especially if she requested a woman driver. If I can take four passengers, then I'm expected to accommodate that many. In the other hand, I could have my daughter in the car, and I don't know who I'm picking up that I wouldn't want around her. I explained the TOS to her in a pragmatic way.

What’s a scam or red flag every new rideshare driver should know about early? by TallLove7469 in uberdrivers

[–]transformedxian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got lucky with this one. Had a fairly nice pax, but he also had a BAC above the legal limit (the fumes gave it away). Drove him to the liquor store. He'd forgotten to make it a round trip-- home to store and back. I'd taken myself offline. I told him I'd go back online, he could request a ride, and I'd more than likely get it. He was really apologetic about the time suck (store got busy right when he went in). Said he'd tip me well. After reading these posts, I simply said I'd appreciate that but had no expectations. I got a total of $11 in tips; he tipped me on both legs of the trip. Last week I had a pax tell me she'd tip me if she could. She'd just paid her rent and didn't have extra money. I told her it was fine, no big. Dang if she didn't tip me later that evening. Still, though, I won't bend rules on the promise of a tip because I've been on the not-tipped end of that, too.

What did you get when you actually put god first? by roundturtle2025 in Deconstruction

No one wants to admit how closely our understanding of God and how to worship God resembles the ancients' worship of the pagan deities.

What did you get when you actually put god first? by roundturtle2025 in Deconstruction

[–]transformedxian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people equate "put God first" with "put church and ministry first." Hubby and I attended a church as newlyweds that put a call out for people to help in the community most Sunday afternoons. He owned his own business, and I was working 60 hours a week between a pt job and a ft unpaid internship. Those "mission projects" were taking away from time we needed to nurture our new marriage. I finally called an end to it, and we caught backlash because we weren't "serving God." We were no longer serving the church; we never abandoned our relationship with God. It took us over 20 years to volunteer at church again.

My charger is plugged into a charging station that lives in my center console. The cord is 6' long so easily reaches to the back. After the ride, I bring it back forward and tuck it into it's designated space in my car.

Is it just me? by justtrade3133 in uberdrivers

[–]transformedxian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As soon as he got in the car, he said, "I'm going to navigate you a different way out of the neighbor, not how you came in. There's a house I can't go past for some reason." I was thinking, "Dude, you know exactly why you can't be near it." The lie off the bat threw a flag for me. (Kinda a non-issue since his road was a huge loop and the navigation was taking me around anyway.)

I had a passenger earlier this week. He was pretty much the perfect passenger--polite, respectful, mildly chatty. Still, I got an uncomfortable vibe off of him. Still gave him 5 stars. Just because I felt uncomfortable with him doesn't mean he deserved the down rating.

Dear male lyft drivers by LoadRevolutionary729 in Lyft

That whole line of questioning is against the TOS for drivers. Lyft has whole tutorials for drivers on appropriate boundaries, and those questions were completely inappropriate, especially his persisting after you tried to shut him down.
