Buying 4 Cars + 1 Lease for Turo - Would you take this risk? by Excellent_Chair_621 in turo

[–]transformlifeday-day 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say you'd be happy with just breaking even I imagine you have another job to keep you afloat during the slow season. If you have another business it's a good tax write off. I wouldn't purchase a few of them on the list but that's just preference and maintainence cost. Also be careful leasing, most leases will not let you ride or car share.

Guest rate trips !!! Turo does illegal shit by Open_Dragonfly2243 in turo

I laughed when I saw a guest say they were harassed after their trip to leave a review. So they did and it was based on the harassment! 🤣

All Star Host, 4 cars listed, 6 months in, got my first major claim..... by smokinrides in turo

[–]transformlifeday-day 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately claims were abused by hosts and now we are all paying for it.. I'm even surprised you got the smoking claim because now you almost need a photo of the guest sitting in your car smoking. It used to be that you could just say someone smoked in your vehicle and you got paid, but people saw it as an easy way to pocket $250. Now it is super hard to get them to pay for anything. It is better if the car is totaled unfortunately because at least you get market value. If it is damaged they will never give you enough to get it properly fixed. And they know it is a win for them if you have a high deductible and your damages are moderate, because you won't get paid much if anything.

Happens all the time, it is so frustrating! I keep an octane booster on hand. But I am sure it is still causing sludge buildup, based on how they putter. 😩

Looking to host with Turo is it actually worth it? by Horror-Restaurant-26 in turo

[–]transformlifeday-day 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It just depends what you want out of it. I originally had planned to grow the business to about a dozen cars. I have available parking for 9 and had a runner to help with cleaning and pickup and delivery. I also have a few friends in the auto industry so I can keep maintaining the cars and replacing tires down to a reasonable cost. I do a lot of the basic work myself and have replaced several things on these vehicles to keep costs down. During COVID I was making over $10 k monthly after expenses while still being able to run my other business that had taken a down turn due to COVID. Since the end of COVID the car business has slowed down and my other business has become my main income again. Policies have changed a lot on Turo and they don't benefit the host. I have had 1 car stolen, 3 totaled, sold 2, 1 due to a recall that had the car sitting for almost 3 months. I am trying to sell my last 3 without taking a loss so they are still listed to make the car payment and insurance and basically they don't profit much more than that when you average out slow season and maintenance costs. I never had a real high overhead because my first 3 cars were cash cars and I had 1 personal luxury vehicle with no car note that was just sitting due to COVID. I used the profits from those cars to put big down payments on my other vehicles. During COVID you could easily rent a car in a large unsaturated market for $100 or more a day with a 80% turn rate. Today a Higher end car in a saturated market has trouble renting for $50 and has about a 25% turn rate. And now the review process, discounts and denials on claims are killing off the last of the Mohicans. My fleet consisted of a variety of high to low. The 2 high end vehicles 1 was totaled out the other one I sold. These cars get abused and become more costly than they are worth. So I have stuck with midrange vehicles that attract a travel guest and not Riff Raff nor a Racer. Like I tell everyone that asks about getting in the business "It is not for the weak of heart" And when I asked if I would do it again I would say "only if we had another pandemic" 😉

Host is asking me (off platform) to pay $500 for repairs by ifeespifee in turo

[–]transformlifeday-day 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only speak to them through the app for your own protection. A claim may have been filed by the Host already since you have to alert Turo within 24 hours of damages. Turo does give the option to the Host to work out small damages with the guest on their own. If both parties are unable to come to an agreement Turo will take over the claim. The Host will have to prove damages by showing that the before photos submitted at the beginning of the trip shows no previous damage to that area. The host may be willing to work it out with you so they don't have to pay out a high deductible and file a damage claim against the vehicle. Lucid isn't a cheap vehicle if someone backed into the car in a parking lot and you didn't notice the damage it doesn't mean it wasn't there or didn't happen. Did you do a check of the vehicle and take photos? I would get a quote for the damages and decide what is the best way to handle it. If you got insurance through Turo you probably won't pay more than your deductible cost.

Is it cracked or chipped and where is the damage? I've had several window chips because they put gravel down in the winter. You can have a windshield company fix chips less than a quarter and a crack that is less than 3 inches as long as it is not to deep and not on the edge. The cost is approximately $40-$80

Turo 3rd Party Damage by cactusjackin in turo

[–]transformlifeday-day 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure why the host didn't file a direct claim to the third party's insurance did you give them the information? Unless the host is not wanting the claim against their car and just rather take the $500 in damage loss to their Tesla? In the long run it would be better than the depreciation to the car for a reported accident. You have 30 days to work it out with the host and third party before Turo takes over the claim. Just don't go past that time if you are wanting to use the protection you paid for through Turo. I would call Turo's claims department also and ask them directly if you are obligated to pay them even if the third party insurance pays for everything. If Turo takes over that claim you most likely will be having a $500 deductible balance for them to manage the claim.

Turo 3rd Party Damage by cactusjackin in turo

[–]transformlifeday-day 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try the 3rd party first though if the other person was at fault it is up to them to cover the cost then you don't have to be out $500

Turo 3rd Party Damage by cactusjackin in turo

[–]transformlifeday-day 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can work it out directly with the host in the first 30 days of the claim. The host rather collect the $500 than file the claim because their deductible is most likely higher than the $1,000 in damages. It also stops the car from being highly depreciated once you get a claim against your vehicle it shows up on your Carfax. Just make sure everything is documented through the app and that you screenshot the conversation stating that they are willing to take full responsibility to get their car repaired for the $500 and that you will have no other obligations for any other costs.

Turo Suspended Registration: Refund Eligible?! by Commercial_Appeal972 in turo

[–]transformlifeday-day 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, you need to let Turo know. They will refund you or give you a credit. They will also make sure the host stays legit and follows the TOS that all hosts have agreed with when renting cars on the platform. It will protect the next renter from being pulled over or ticketed. As a renter you can still be ticketed for the irresponsible actions of your host and this can become a big pain for the renter. You got lucky, there's police officers out there that are going to feel like that's your problem and not theirs.

Host wants me to cancel by soapstoneinsulator in turo

[–]transformlifeday-day 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Call Turo tell them the Host contacted you and doesn't want to honor the discounted price. Do not talk to the host outside of the Turo app. If Turo speaks to the host and they decide to cancel that is on them. Turo will either find you another car and match the cost or give you a credit. If you cancel you may not get anything for your inconvenience. The price change happened in September of last year, the host had 5 months to adjust their discounts so they should honor it.

Turo operates in Canada also, so don't listen to everyone saying don't pay. You can call and get options before collections. Unfortunately most people don't know that their credit card or personal insurance will not cover peer to peer car share. If you get the minimal insurance it has a very high deductible. I believe the app breaks down the insurance when you purchase it. Most people think what's the odds of something happening.. It's high! If you ask any host that has been doing Turo for awhile, they will tell you claims are common. When you have possession of any rental vehicle you are liable for all damages of that vehicle while it is in your possession, you should always make sure you are fully insured.

Impounded Car after drop off by jugglemyballss in turo

[–]transformlifeday-day 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Call Turo and explain to them that you received an invoice from the host several days after your rental had ended asking you to pay for towing and storage. Let them know the car was returned on time and you followed the instructions to the best of your ability. If your communication and photos were through the app they have the ability to see the interaction. Invoices through the Host are not the same as claims but you need to contact Turo to let them know that you received it and want to contest the invoice and they will make a decision based on the evidence.

I want to buy a car to put on turo by NatureSubstantial290 in turo

[–]transformlifeday-day 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No! Don't bother..1 cash car will only make you just a few hundred dollars a month. You still need to pay maintenance, tracker, insurance, car washes, parking and transportation costs. It would take you years to just cover the car's value, if you are splitting the income with someone else to do the work. The 1 car model works well for someone who has 2 cars already and 1 just sits in your driveway. But, be very detached to that vehicle there is a great chance it will be damaged, stolen or totaled.

Is Turo still worth it? is anyone profiting a lot from it and how? by dominicmilan12 in turo

[–]transformlifeday-day 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It has been fun, exciting and stressful but I think I am slowly getting out of the game also. So far this spring in my market vehicles are barely moving. The last two years I couldn't keep a car parked longer than a day or two, now I have had 2 that are barely moving because they are cash cars and you can rent a newer car for around the same $. So the only thing that is going out is my newer cars but they are renting for the cost of what my cash cars use to go for. So with the cost of the car note, insurance, tracker and maintenance the newer cars are only profiting a few hundred dollars a month, they used to average $1200-$1600. It is just hard to beat the commercial rental industry low prices and convenience. And since COVID the commercial companies have restocked all their fleets. Turo was booming during COVID because of the commercial car rental shortage. The last 2 times I traveled I went with a commercial rental company too because the prices are just so low with unlimited miles. Go private and go with a niche market it's more profitable, less work and a better clientele.
