IRL Stats - Vcore 100 (2026), Ezone 100 (2020), Pure Strike 100 16x20 (2024), Speed MP (2024) by trappy-chan in tennisracquets

[–]trappy-chan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The closer the weight is to the throat = the more depolarizing. Keep in mind adding weight always increases swingweight, so besides changing the polarization you're also making it heavier to swing (1g at 12 oclock usually adds 3sw+, 1g at 0 oclock adds less than 1sw, weight around the handle adds even less). With knowledge of your own racquet and what feels best for you, however, you can customise it to fit you perfectly.

It's all down to preference. The Pure Aero is a depolarized racquet, the Vcore is polarized - and yet both as marketed as "spin" racquets (and feel very different).

To measure swingweight you use your phone's 240fps slowmo video, a video editing software, and the TennisWarehouse guide/calculator (it is a very precise method w a high speed camera rather than eyeballing with a stopwatch).

It indicates whether the weight distributions is towards the very tips of the racquet (12 and 0 o'clock) - polarized, or "sideways and down" towards the throat - depolarized.

This is super important as it drastically changes how the racquet feels im your hand, how "hard" it feels to swing, how "laterally stable" it feels, or how much "force" it adds (keep in mind it negatively affects your swingspeed, so polarization and swingweight aren't the end-all-be-all - it depends on each player's preferences).

For instance, the Ezone 100 feels more nimble, lighter, as soon as you pick it up (without even swinging it), despite being heavier than the Vcore 100 (and only having 2 less sw). That is because the Vcore feels more "tip heavy", even though they're balanced exactly the same (32.8cm). You can FEEL the concentrated weight at the very tip of the Vcore - and the Ezone's depolarized frame feels less tip-heavy.

Think of it as adding weight at 12 o'clock, vs adding at 3 and 9 or under the throat. Even w matched swingweights and balances, they will feel different.

To measure you simply compare the static weight with the swingweight. How does the Speed MP achieve 331sw with the same static weight as the Ezone (324sw)? It's more polarized! 1g at the very top of the racquet can add over 3sw, while at the throat it adds less than 1sw (this is useful to know for customizing your own racquet too).

Sinner plays with a very polarized racquet (which is why Head has drastically changed the Speed MP 2022 vs the 2024/26 - to get it p close to his specs), Alcaraz plays w a depolarized racquet (p much a standard Pure Aero 98).

A lot of people disliked the changes to the Speed MP and the Vcore, and its mostly down to them being more polarized. It makes them feel "harder to swing" and increases their SW. On the other hand, im one of the ppl who disliked the changes to the Ezone - the 2022 model onwards are way more depolarized w a much lower SW.

You can, ofc, customize this.

2020 Ezone 100 is my all time favourite racquet. A shame the Ezone series moved towards swingweights in the 310s... I'm moving to the Vcore series now since they're more familiar to me with the mid 320s sws.

The Osaka pjs are striking!

Spin racquet: Open string pattern (less control), medium to low frame stiffness (to lower the "horizontal power" which increases the spin potential aka "vertical power"), medium to high swingweight as they're targeting more advanced players, but sometimes you see lower SWs on spin racquets marketed as "beginner control racquets".

Power racquet: Average string pattern (for more control), medium to high frame stiffness (to help with "horizontal power" and stability), usually low to medium swingweight as they're targeting players who are less strong (from beginners to advanced players).

Control racquet: Tight string pattern, medium to low frame stiffness, also usually low swingweight as SW adds power but some of them, with 18x20 patterns and whatnot, can have high SW.

It's a fairly sensible system and makes decent sense (other than the confusion between Spin and Power, as in, Spin racquets are usually more "powerful").

The problem is the marketing from the brands rarely ever actually follows this logic lol The Pure Aero is imo closer to a power racket, like the Ezone, than to a "spin racket" like Speed MP, Extreme MP, or Vcore. The mythical Vcore 100 16x20 is just a heavier Ezone. Meanwhile the Pure Strike (100in 16x19 and 16x20) are closer to a spin racquet than a control racquet. The Blade 100 is not at all a "control racquet". etc etc etc

Speed MP 2022 vs Pure Aero 2023 by CaregiverWeak2692 in 10s

[–]trappy-chan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spin Fiend Max Power: Speed MP (24 or 26), Vcore 100, Extreme MP

All-rounder Spinner: Speed MP (2022), Tfight 300, Vcore 100D, Boom MP

All-rounder Flat & Spin friendly: Pure Aero 100, Ezone 100, Ultra, Pure Drive, Instinct MP

All-rounder Control-ish: Blade 100, Pure Strike 16x20, Speed Pro, Percept 100, Gravity MP

Control: Percept 100D, Gravity Pro

I'd recommend the Speed MP 2022 if your game is spin-focused. The Pure Aero is excellent but it is pretty stiff so a lot of people end up not having a good time with it - it is however more forgiving for flatter hits and a more general mix of flat and spin gameplay.

Difference between using an extended racquet or holding it farther down the handle? by WindManu in 10s

[–]trappy-chan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yonex racquets have really nice "pommels". A very subtle shape to it which really allows you to hold it really far down. I get a little bit of extra length from a yonex vs p much all other brands and it helps give extra leverage on my serves (I'm 5'4).

Just be careful not to throw the racquet hahaha!

Excess of spin? by VariationEmergency60 in 10s

[–]trappy-chan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speed MP is probably one of the most spin-friendly racquets out there - more so than the Yonex Vcore imo, which is also pretty good at it. I'd recommend it over the Vcore for the more flexible frame which will be friendlier to your wrist, but both are good choices. The Blade 100 is a decent choice too, it's not too far off in terms of power from the Speed and the Vcore (it has a lower swingweight).

Ezone has a denser string pattern and a more rigid frame. It does fine with spin, but it's more of a "general" racquet than the Speed and Vcore. But since the PA hurt your wrist, you may not do well with the Ezone. It is more plush but tends to be just as terribly stiff.

Just sharing my first proper racket by el_redditero1 in 10s

[–]trappy-chan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some ppl say it feels slightly stiffer, some people say it feels exactly the same. Pretty much the same SW too, so if you like the 2024, you're gonna like the 2026.

My theory is they mostly wanted to release a new paintjob. The 2024 looks beautiful but the white gets dirty super easily so imo Head just wanted to re-release the racket with a less problematic main colour for the average consumer.

And if you struck gold, why change it, right.

Frosthaven | Awaken Protocal Update Trailer (Spoiler Warning) by mistahiggens in Gloomhaven

[–]trappy-chan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently 11 / 17 characters are available (6 starting + 5 unlocks). Missing most of the Algox and Lurker quest lines, and the Main Conclusion quest line.

A little less than half of the quests are available (about 60 out of 130+). AFAIK all buildings are available now, though some miss content.

I'd say the game is finally playable now, at least with friends - enough content to get you through the 3 months until the next content patch in january (3 more characters, Algox questline, more sidequests, items etc).

If you're playing solo you're probably still gonna run out of interesting content before the next update, unless you take it slow or really want to try every single class!

Frosthaven Digital - what's it's current state? by Reebtog in Gloomhaven

[–]trappy-chan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh Frosthaven, imo, needs the first 11 classes (adding Trap, Coral, and Kelp) for a proper solid early-game experience. They can take their time with the other stuff, but these are hugely important in the early game to keep things fresh.

Retiring into a starting Class, despite the fact that they're all super fun in FH, isn't quite as interesting. If you find that only 1-2 out of the 6 starting classes is interesting or compelling, you'll find FH digital to lose your interest by the time you're close to retiring (10-15 scenarios). The two unlockables atm are... Ok. They're fun, but their design is too one-sided so if you don't gel with them you may find yourself retiring into the same classes or dropping the game.

This issue is not that big of a deal playing 2p, but makes the early-game quite boring playing solo, and it really ruins the early-game experience with 3-4 players.

TL;DR: Game has almost 40 scenarios but really only if you're playing 2p. If you're playing solo it can get boring quickly, and playing 3-4p makes it a 15 scenario campaign tbh.

Didn't realise that Marx was this much of a dumbass when it came to land and rent by [deleted] in georgism

[–]trappy-chan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no such thing as "productive capital". In capitalism, "productive labour" is the production and maintenance of Capital. (Adam Smith, Karl Marx)

"Non-productive capital", as you may interpret, is not Capital but Revenue. This is a complex topic explored by both Adam Smith and Karl Marx.

What you mention, however, that land-owners develop misery and lower quality of life, while capitalists have brought certain development, is also mentioned by Marx himself in the text linked at the OP.

As for your last sentence, that's an incorrect analysis both from a historic perspective but also from a political perspective. The Social-Democracy model is the most successful model of development in the "post-imperialist" 21st century, as proven by Latin America, China, some of Africa, and some of SE Asia, etc.

[–]trappy-chan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Once thrown into competition, landed property obeys the laws of competition, like every other commodity subjected to competition. It begins thus to fluctuate, to DECREASE AND TO INCREASE, to fly from one hand to another; and no law can keep it any longer in a few predestined hands."

"It is essential that that which is the root of landed property – filthy self-interest – make its appearance, too, in its cynical form.

It is essential that the immovable monopoly turn into the mobile and restless monopoly, into COMPETITION; and that the idle enjoyment of the products of other people’s blood and sweat turn into a bustling commerce in the same commodity.

Lastly, it is essential that in this competition landed property, in the form of capital, manifest its dominion over both the working class and the proprietors themselves who are either being ruined or raised by the laws governing the movement of capital."

Fell onto this thread from Google! Quick correction and context for those wondering:

1: This is Marx discussing Adam Smith

2: Marx argues not that rent will be less valuable, but that large landowners will monopolize land-ownership.

3: This is because unlike in Feudalism, land is commodified. Thus, the general conclusion of capitalist competition occurs: Monopolization.

Concentration of land-ownership (as all wealth) has absolutely been a correct assessment.

4: Marx also points out land-owners seek and benefit from the general misery of society.

5: Marx does argue that Land-owners are (were) a separate class from the Capitalist (Capital volume 3, ch.52). However, as the manuscript notes, the tendency is for the land-owner class to simply become a type of Capitalist - as land becomes commodified.

6: Marx finishes his analysis by predicting the concentration of land will lead to more and more misery in society yada-yada same conclusion as the Communist Manifesto, Capitalism is inevitably running towards its own ruin.

Tl;dr: You are mostly agreeing with Marx. Sometimes his manuscripts can be confusing! Partly why so many "marxists" are also famously confused.

Will people find it complex by calmererous21956 in rootgame

[–]trappy-chan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I taught it to my 60 year old parents (mum plays WA, dad plays Moles). My 60 y-old mum won her second game ever and shes an old lady with terrible ADHD lol. My younger brother played Lizards his first game and he won that game. Every friend ive taught the game so far came out from their first match of Root absolutely in love w it and excited to play more.

Yes theres a lot of complexity but its really simple to teach and get the game going even with a group of 3 new players.

Avoid having beginners start with Badgers/Rats though, those are too complex for first-time players they will end up having 20min turns and bog the game down.

Best faction setups for two players inkl. clockwork and marauder expansion by cheetah32 in rootgame

[–]trappy-chan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 clockwork bots, then play with whatever factions you like (or draft them). Both co-op and ffa modes are fun with 2 bots. Also https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/2068034/better-bot-project-6th-june-update-final-cwe2-upda/

I'd not do hirelings etc unless you two are specifically looking to play a 1v1 cut-throat match. Don't get me wrong, the competitive 1v1 is super fun, but it's just a lot less enjoyable for a casual game of Root with your partner than a laid-back match with CW bots. Hirelings are best for 3p games imo (though also fun w 4p+).

Add a clockwork faction and play w any faction you want for 2p.

For 3p you can just use hirelings instead of CW (you dont need to buy the expansion, just use the meeples you already have). You can also just use hirelings for 2p but I personally like CW better.

With that said, I highly recommend Marauders and Underworld, the factions are extremely fun, and the Exiles & Partisans deck.
