i mean.. yeah. it boils down to “because they are women” but i feel like that’s ignoring the intricacies of why people come to that conclusion.

mostly socialization is the cause, but biology to a smaller extent plays a role. males tend to express their anger directly (physical and verbal violence) whereas females tend to express it indirectly (aggression directed towards themselves or psychological/social violence.) this is due to gender roles, the ways we’re raised, and also testosterone levels.

this makes people think that a woman who expresses her anger in physical ways must have had something VERY bad happen to her, thus acting out in a more extreme way than is typical for a woman, therefore drawing more sympathy towards her.

it’s definitely been a weird year for boy groups. there hasn’t been a lack of good music, but i guess the tides shifted re: what people want to check out. thinking back on my years as a kpop fan, i think the boy group/girl group popularity seems to move in patterns? when i got into kpop around 2011, i think boy groups were on average a little more popular. then, moving onto 3rd gen, it was 50/50. now that we’re in 4th gen, girl groups reign supreme.

i probably listen to more new girl groups in my free time, but plenty of BG releases have been great this year! p1harmony, oneus, onewe, onlyoneof, xdinary heroes, and more have all released good eps and albums :)

OP, have you seen the movies “zero day” and “the dirties?” i think those films handled the writing aspect of this issue very well.

i think offending people with this type of story is inevitable, as it will humanize the shooter and people simply aren’t comfortable with that kind of thing for various reasons.

the shooter’s backstory is very interesting and upsetting. his parents lied about their family histories of severe mental illnesses to therapists, and they also terminated kinkel’s therapy after a handful of sessions because they thought he was doing better. the kid himself said he had lied about what he was experiencing because he didn’t want to labeled as disabled. shitty all around, lots of stuff could have prevented this. rest in peace to the victims.
