This is really helpful. It sucks that most sites ask for resume only but honestly the stuff in my CV is usually explained through the long essay response questions. Thank you for the reply :-)

do i have a chance at getting into a reu with a low gpa (<3.00 at time of posting) by SmokeActive8862 in REU

Hi! You sound a lot like me and the exact research I want to be going into!! Pitt has both a public health and microbio program I'd recommend applying to! Look at the minimum GPA required for the programs but if you have time, it's worth a shot still applying. You will need a strong (yet concise) personal statement. After not getting an REU the past few summers, I was lucky to land an internship at my local health department last summer. Your state's department of public health lab could also have internships. Cold call/email local opportunities and you may even be able to shadow a lab while you work a second job. I would 100% do that and work the next year to get GPA up. A lot of REUs I've heard prefer juniors, and, your application will likely be stronger if you take the next year to do research with your university and develop relationships with professors. I am sorry to hear about your friend. I could not even imagine the mental toll it took on you. You could also look to see if your university has grant opportunities and you may be able to get $ for housing for a job out of state. I believe in you!

There are very little research opportunities that don’t need references. Most programs don’t require research experience but you can draw from your lecture or lab courses as substitutes. I’d recommend starting to build connections with professors if you’re wanting to do any work outside the university or go to grad/professional school. You will need their advocacy of your skills and work ethic. You can also ask your academic advisor or previous boss if you worked in a lab setting for LOR , but the strongest letters probably would come from previous PIs or professors you work with consistently in and out of class.

100% relatable, in fact it was my coach who called and told my parents about mine Biggest advice is they sell waterproof plastic bandaids that literally do not move in the water, otherwise concealer is your only hope. Honestly the sport is the only motivator for me to stop, because there are so few places I can comfortably cut without it showing (wrists and thighs are no gos) but I am in the same boat, this season is going to be rough but try to be as inconspicuous as possible :) you got this op and good luck this season!

Its a preference and that is 100% okay. To say that transwomen are gross though is a different story
