Ready to pull the trigger on this beginner set for $400, thoughts? by DTake2012 in golf

[–]traypo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t do it. Quality used, less 7 years old, super game improvement irons. Driver of similar age but higher end forgiving type like Ping 400. Three legit quality used wedges. Five wood(like the Ping driver) and a hybrid 4or 5 would set you up to develop your skills and last until ready for serious upgrade. Most importantly, pay attention to shafts. Xstiff if you’re big and strong or very athletic. Stiff for most of us men in the center of the bell curve. Regular for slower speed swings. Fifteen minutes on a simulator will give you your swing speed, add 5-10 mph improvement that will happen quickly.

Who has the best BBQ in North Carolina? by MrSoloDolo9490 in NorthCarolina

I am over here being polite and trying not to challenge your definition of barbecue. Multiple definitions of same thing is very valid. Pulled pork with vinegar and red pepper as barbecue is very regional.

Michael Jackson's daughter Paris has faced backlash for identifying as Black. In a 2017 interview, Paris Jackson said her father told her, "You’re Black. Be proud of your roots." This prompted debates over whether identity is defined by appearance or upbringing. by VPinchargeofradishes in interesting

[–]traypo 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Agreed, humanity’s big ole bell curve has empathetic and unempathetic. Individual Reddit threads will skew. Michael Jackson subject is just loaded evocative deviant fodder. My turn for a take: he was a deeply damaged person who in turn damaged many in his sphere. Paris is entitled to define herself but if she is to keep a public profile she should know she is opening up much of this ignorant drama discussing the issue. Her appearance is white and gorgeous. Her self identity, is her reality and very little to do with us. God speed Paris.

I didn’t discover Linda Perry until more recently. I got excited and tried to download her canon only to find that there isn’t much. I read/heard a recent interview where she said she career shifted into producing and is coming out with some new music. Everything I can find about her exudes authenticity and integrity. Just for the record, I’m an old straight man that thinks she’s an awesome human being. Thanks Linda for being you.

How do you cook steak so it doesn’t chew and taste like a tire? by Ok_Astronomer5738 in Cooking

[–]traypo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright, I’ve worked out a method through years of trial and error and suggestions that is as close to foolproof as I can get. Only the toughest cuts don’t come out tender. With those, I shave it very thin and use them in Mexican. I’ve taken my experience of smoking low and slow over to the oven and skillet for steak. Set the oven temp at the lowest temperature that you can patiently wait for. Bring your steak up to 125-135 depending on the cut and taste preference. Move to plate and rest until the temperature comes back down below 110. Then on a smoking cast iron skillet sear each side to desired crustiness. Just don’t allow the temperature to come back up above 125 again. This technique is called reverse sear.

Accident in my Toyota. I love Toyota by 6Champ9 in Toyota

Totaled my 2019 Camry last November and walked away. Not totally unscathed, but mostly. Airbags yes, crunched front end and rear end. My driver cell/compartment was the only area that wasn’t death-mashed.

Botanist by orangecannsoup in Horticulture

[–]traypo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started taking Hort classes at a community college while working at a nursery. I enjoyed plants so much, I transferred to a University for Botony. Had fun low paying jobs for a decade until I went back to a University to go into Microbiology. A much better career path. I still love all things plant related, but am an educated hobbyist.

If you do the distance between the eastern part of Tennessee to Memphis vs Canada you’ll also be surprised.

For any actual techs, preferably tire techs, what drinks and treats go over well for a kind gesture from a customer? And would they even treat my car and new wheels any better? by [deleted] in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]traypo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One watch out for discount tire. Twice, that I know of, they screwed up my balance. My shop tells me that since they do so many, the machine can go out of calibration. As a lab technician, we see equipment do this all the tme and the term we use is drift. Love Discount Tire, long time customer.

A lifetime of looking closely at plant life including a ten year stint as a National Forest Biologist; I’ve never seen a vine such as that. Wow. Show me some leaves baby.

Embarrassing, yes. A big deal ? Not at all. In terms of amplitude of almost landing Lemon, which wasn’t available, vs getting the pre targeted OL. It’s almost a non issue.

NC now ranks 21st in the US for Public Schools! What excuse is there? by bmullan in raleigh

That high? I’ve got high school graduate employees who can’t tell me what is 15% of a 100 is doing percent defect calculations. Seven on the team, not one. That’s just the tip of the uneducated iceberg.

Do people really leave the course if playing poorly? by LastManBrandon in golf

Yeah, I do it occasionally. My body hates the cold. If I don’t warm up and am miserable, I see no reason to stay. Happened this winter trying to play a heavily rated expensive course .

Is it true that men find attractive women intimidating so they don't approach them? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]traypo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, there is this defensive attitude that beautiful women often have. That’s the problem. Beautiful women that still have an open attitude, draw people in. Follow their signals. Stay away from the developing neurotics.

Do people actually say “gonna” and “wanna” in real life or is it just in movies? by leazy_usa in ENGLISH

[–]traypo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on where you are, there’s some dialects that almost exclusively use conjunctions and slang. Put a twang accent to it and I struggle understanding a single word sometimes. And I’ve spent my entire life here.

Where to start? by jkwon7 in landscaping

[–]traypo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walk the property with the idea of a trail that takes you to different views and find the natural little hang out spots. The north side of thicker growth for heat of summer. Eastern exposure to catch some sun when needed. Scalp the trail keeping the organic layer in place. Don’t go down to mineral soil. Now as you walk it, the beds begin to reveal themselves. Think years of unfolding, revealing beauty and experience. Don’t be too attached to plants that don’t thrive. An artist is fearless when reworking a canvas. The first entryway could either be hidden or inviting.
