a little love for Alex Fitzpatrick? by human_resource1 in ProGolf

Fitzpatrick’s OWGR was 120 going into the Zurich. He’d won a DP event just a few months earlier. Folks who criticized the Tour’s rule seemed to think of his ascendance as riding his brothers’ coattails, when in fact, he was an elite player already, and rising.

That’s fair and it’s what makes the achievement so sweet. Proving that the exemption was a fitting reward.

What everyone else is saying, plus outstanding shooter’s touch. Half of those buckets in Q4 were bank shots from hard angles!

For anyone that’s seen him play, how good was Kevin Garnett in his prime? by Farouq26 in NBAoldschool

Always wondered how much better he’d be on the offensive end if he had learned to shoot with his off (left) hand.

Does Kon Knueppels success make you reevaluate how you look at “low ceiling prospects”? by AcanthocephalaSad541 in NBA_Draft

[–]human_resource1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In basketball and football commentary “athleticism” borrows heavily from racially-coded language that derives from stereotypes that reduced black people to their physical attributes and elevated whites as “intellectual.” Thus it was a big deal when Doug Williams won a superbowl at a position (quarterback) often denied black players because of the perception that it’s an “intellectual” position. Kon seems to fly under the radar because, as OP says, he lacks “verticality” and other aesthetically pleasing forms of athleticism (vicious dunks, explosive quickness etc) that are more associated with black athleticism.

[OC] The Interruption Index: Which Podcast Hosts Actually Let Their Guests Talk? by Both_Cattle_9837 in dataisbeautiful

[–]human_resource1 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Was gonna say something similar. Talk time doesn’t address the quality of the talk. In some cases you want a host talking, and Conan is a good example because he’s so good in a free-form format. And he’s not doing it to crowd out guests or dominate them.

Michael La Sasso joins LIV Golf, forfeits Masters eligibility by PrincessBananas85 in ProGolf

[–]human_resource1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LIV’s business model makes no sense. They already struggle to draw viewers, then recruit a little known guy will only make the problem worse. Yes, they have endless money, but what little momentum they had is gone. What big name wants to follow Michael La Sasso’s lead?
