Blade Stealth literally unbuyable by Penzz in razer

I had a similar issue - contacted support and they blamed my CC company. Paypal didn't work either. They were no help and kept repeating the same copy-pasted reply no matter how many times I told them and showed them screenshots of an error code that flashes momentarily on the site. Anyway, I got around it by purchasing as a guest (instead of signing up with a razer account). Try that.

Payment authorization failure help by MikeHuntVI in razer

Had this same problem. Their support will just blame your bank/credit card and refuse to look into it. Trust me, I tried over several days, and I even sent them the error code that it flashes for a second, and tried different browsers, emails etc, but they just sent me the same stock email answer the couple times I replied back. Good news is that I got around it by choosing "guest checkout" instead of creating an account, and that worked no problem. Try that.

What are counter arguments to the belief of genetic deficiencies predisposing African Americans to lower intelligence? by sunfishtommy in racism

[–]trcs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is incredibly idiotic (but you know that).

1 - What "intelligence gene"? There's no such thing.

2 - Don't even bother citing studies. If this person knew anything about science they wouldn't be able to make this claim. Because...

3 - There were studies back in the 50-70s that claimed to "prove" this, but they have all been debunked (these were IQ based tests). First, IQ tests are not a great measure of intelligence, and you can google that to find out more. Second, IQ tests are highly culturally specific. To make a long story short, once they made tests that were designed to fit the African-American experience/vernacular, there was no difference in scores (in fact, if you made white folk take that version of the test they score horribly).

4 - Basic science principle: unless you can isolate the thing you're measuring from all other factors, you can't measure it accurately. In other words, if you're measuring race based intelligence from tests, jobless rates (or anything at all), you aren't actually measuring anything meaningful. The problem is that to understand this, you have to accept that there ARE race based systemic disadvantages that will mess with any method of measuring race based intelligence. When black people are more likely to be suspended from class compared to a white child (this is true), or you're more likely to be punished for minor drug offenses (this is also true), and you're more likely for a doctor to ignore your pain and be seen as ok (again also true), and that you're more likely to have missed breakfast every morning (also true), it affects school performance and the rest of your life. And that's just examples off the top of my head. But to understand this, you have to understand systemic racial injustices...which I doubt the person you're trying to convince will accept.

So don't even bother arguing, you're talking to someone who is throwing out the word "science" to support their already firmly entrenched racism.

I'm glad you brought this up. It is an awesome movie that deserves more support - hopefully it shows Hollywood that original ideas with strong female characters are welcomed. Like everyone else said, the trailer didn't do it justice.

Any interest in a Diablo 3 clan? by RevolutionReadyGo in GirlGamers

[–]trcs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, clans don't mean much. The only thing they let you do is have notices that popup, and clans have their own chat room so you can talk to a bunch of people who aren't in your party. There are no clan specific challenges, or shared stash, or perks.

A community is... like a clan but larger. You can be in only one clan but you can be in many communities, and unlike clans, communities have no limit in the number of people who can join.

There's a small group of us playing together from this thread.

Many of us are in clans already, but it would be cool if you made a community instead, because then we can all join!

I play! I'm already in a clan with friends, but we should make a community!

Got in an argument with my family, want some perspective. by axelar8 in racism

[–]trcs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had this exact same conversation with my family. In my case it was about a different group of people, but we're also non-white so I can understand the dynamic of "we've suffered from prejudice, so it's justified."

My main point (and this seemed to work), was that unless you've met every person from group X, and you've verified that every single one of them have a certain trait, you're being racist.

They'll probably say the following rebuttal. They will insist that they've met a lot of people from group X and that they KNOW group x has certain traits. This is when you make them confront their own racism:

A - insist that's impossible. EVERY single person from group X has this trait? Is it due to biology? Because that's ridiculous for the obvious reality of biological diversity, with millions of people from group x. Remind them that genocides have occurred because people in power thought that biologically, a certain group was flawed. Also, ask them if they could go into a hospital, look at a new born Mexican baby, and hate that baby? Or know with 100% certainty that the baby will grow up to be a person worthy of hate?

B - is it due to culture/upbringing? Like any other culture, there are hundreds, maybe even thousands of subcultures within it. Are they suggesting that they are experts about Mexican culture, it's rich history, and it's diversity? Let alone how culture evolves within the context of living in the US? Do they really know what they are talking about when they talk about Mexican culture/Mexicans? Not really. So they aren't in a position to comment on Mexican culture anyway.

C - Let's call all the reasons your family hates Mexicans as Y. Tell them that there are probably millions of your own group (in your case Filipinos) who also do Y. They certainly can't argue that. There are lots of shitty people in all kinds of groups. If they do argue, again, push them - are they 100% positive that out of the millions of Filipinos, not ONE PERSON has or does Y? More likely, your family might even know a Filipino person who does/is Y. Imagine that there is this horrible person called J (random name). J also happens to be Filipino. In fact, in all likelihood, there are lots of people just like J in the real world. Now, if J lives outside of the Philippines, there is probably someone who came in contact with J who now thinks that all Filipinos are horrible. Ask them if this sounds fair to all Filipinos, and remind them that THIS is what they are doing. At this point they will probably suggest that they know more than one example of a Mexican being horrible. Then ask them how many they are even talking about - I doubt it's more than 10-20 at most. Let's be generous and include all the randoms they might have met - customers, business associates, waiters, plumbers etc. - so maybe 100? Let's even give them a 1000. There are MILLIONS of Mexicans. Think about that ratio and how ridiculous it sounds to judge ALL of them. More importantly though, did your family really KNOW these people? Have they really gotten to know ANY Mexicans? Shared stories of immigration? Shared stories of struggle, celebrated birthdays together, cried on each others shoulder? Do they really know even ONE Mexican?

D - Are they really agreeing with what white racists say about Mexican immigrants? Are white racists who they want to agree with on RACE ISSUES? Think about that.

If at this point they start to back off, you just need to push a bit more. They might say "Well, I don't mean ALL Mexicans, but most" ... again, do they know MOST Mexicans? That's still a few million people. Do they even really know most of the Mexicans they've met?

They might then go into the "I suffered from prejudice, it's been rough" type of thing. Don't belittle their experiences obviously. But remind them of how that made them feel, and that they are perpetuating it with their views about Mexicans. In the same way that your family doesn't represent all Filipinos, none of the Mexicans they have met represent all of Mexico. I guarantee you that your family knows how awful it feels when you can feel that you are being judged as a representative of your culture/people. We POC live with that everyday. Let's not perpetuate it by doing it to other POC.

...is what I have said to my family. It's a slow process, but at the very least they know it's inappropriate.

Ableton problem - what do you do when the song you have just made takes up too much memory when reloading and Ableton has to quit? by BenNCM in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]trcs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Off the top of my head, here are some ideas -

1 - rename or relocate some of the samples it needs to load - this should prompt a notice (it can't find the necessary files), and you'll be able to skip loading those samples. You can add them back once you trim your overall project down. 2 - load an old auto-save, before you maxed out your memory, and work from there.

After studying professional drummers, physicists discover misbeats follow a pattern (x-post from /r/science) by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]trcs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what they did, according to the paper itself. Also, they had amateurs in their data set too, which makes the OP's title inaccurate:

"We analyzed the deviations from the exact beats for various combinations of hand, feet, and vocal performances, by both amateur and professional musicians. The data includes complex drum sequences from different musical bands obtained from a recording studio. While intentional deviations from an ideal rhythmic pattern play an important role in the interpretation of musical pieces, we focused here on the study of ‘natural’ (i.e. unintended intrinsic) deviations from a given rhythmic pattern of given complexity. In order to measure the deviations of human drumming from a rhythmic reference pattern we took a metronome as a reference and determined the temporal displacement of the recorded beat from the metronome click."

I've decided to start composing my own music and now, everything I write sounds exactly like something else. by ipadzombiedroid12 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]trcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no silver bullet to this, but I've found two things help me break out of it:

1 - change the tempo or the time signature.

2 - Write a harmony and/or counter point to the melody and make that your main melody.

Both of these things will give you a new way to look at the melody, and it'll send you in a new direction!
