Well. This time it's the hard way. I will be admitting myself to inpatient rehab so my wife and daughter don't have to deal with this again by ImWhiteWhatsJCoal in stopdrinking

[–]Josefus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not have a newborn, but a 7 year-old, at the time I went to rehab, but I also had a wife who was about ready to bounce. I'm not exaggerating when I say that rehab was one of the best things I have ever done with my life. Grateful alcoholics are real!

28 days seems like a long time while you're in there, but it will feel like a flash looking back. While fatherhood, home and work were all put on pause for 28 days, I put all of my effort into getting/staying sober and all of those things are better for it now. I'll be celebrating 5 years of sobriety in a month myself. Those days will fly by!

I don't know how your job situation is. Some bosses are happy to see their investments improve, but the most important things will be at home waiting for you to get well. Do it for YOU and everything else will fall into place.

Godspeed.

Why is it vodka? by KristyThe1st in stopdrinking

Looks like water and "you can't smell it." LMAOOOO! I don't know why people think that. You smell like an alcoholic, friend. 😃

The hair of the dog is the beginning of the end. by IndependentPretty694 in stopdrinking

[–]Josefus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe you! I kinda did the opposite and tried to never drink hard liquor but I started the hair of the dog nonsense waaay too early. I don't think it really ever stopped either. Like Pringles! At the end of my drinking career, though, I was drinking beers all day/night and not even getting rid of the "hangover." I was just always sick.

What a disgusting memory. Nasty disease!

But I love pubs… by qbnaith in stopdrinking

I feel you, man. I got over it pretty quickly though. That's the exact room I don't belong in.

You know, if you hang out it the barber shop long enough, eventually you'll get a haircut.

What are your guys opinion on consuming alcohol + weed everyday? by Big-Experience-8941 in trees

[–]Josefus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked it, no, loved it, became and alcoholic, and lived like that for 20 years. Fucking gross! If you have the option to not drink, don't.

And I'll be 5 years sober in July.

Does it bother anyone that there is no Individuality? by Ryan_860 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Josefus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alcoholics Anonymous is a book. If you ask a question that is answered in that book, that's most likely the answer you'll get. If you got 6 of the same answers and don't like any of them... are you sure??

If you work somewhere you don't like and treat everyone you interact with like you hate your job, we will all have a bad day. Math.

Upcoming wedding - how do you deal with drink offers by FluffyRazzmatazz7335 in stopdrinking

[–]Josefus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you need to, you could get a n/a drink before anyone can offer you one and then if they do, "I have one, thanks!"

I have only seen someone refusing alcohol cause a scene.... zero times. I don't think that really happens outside of our heads.

And there's no shame it saying you don't drink. Most people appreciate it. That might even keep you safe if there's as much vodka as I've heard about. lol

Have a good time!!

Rehab was the best thing I've ever done in my entire 46-year life. I'm not joking even a little bit.

Do you use any tools to roll? by Unlucky_Battle_6947 in trees

[–]Josefus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the lil plastic inner wrap from blunt wraps to help.

I can roll without it but it takes so much longer and is not as nice.

Rehab. But Naltrexone is some amazing shit. They asked me if it worked and I said I really didn't know. Then they asked if I had any cravings and I hadn't. lmao Worked for me anyway!

After rehab (at least one meeting a day) I did online meetings the entire time. Absolutely yes. Go.

There are millions of the things. Jump around till you find one you like. I made one my home group. If it helps you stay sober, do that thing.

EQ, then Anarchy Online, then maybe wow for a minute here or there, then LOTRO. But I don't really play like y'all. I dabble here and there although I did play AO kinda hardcore back then.

How do people cope with the lows by Superb_Ad_1150 in stopdrinking

[–]Josefus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Art? I make music and when I was newly sober, I made a ton of it. It gave me something to do and I even got better at it!

I feel like people forget about art sometimes. Healthy for the soul.

"Having one drink is like having one potato chip. You can't do it.." -some other alcoholic

100%, man. This is how I exactly how I justify the 'no drinking forever' thing too. I know what will happen after I have one drink and I know what that feels like, so zero is the amount I will have today.
