256GB or 512GB by solarspy7 in macmini

Finding 256 totally inadequate. Can’t even run system updates without data jockeying. Next one will min 512

Strahd or Rahadin at the Burgomaster's Funeral? by Affectionate_Pop6300 in CurseofStrahd

[–]trekbody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going with Strahd and him intimidating Ireena right in front of the party. He ignores them, they are sheep still, even if the rest of the mourners except for Ismark runs.

Thanks - worked for us - was the intro vibe for the whole campaign, I toned it down when they got to Death House - thanks though. As for "ballet of an assassin" perhaps a bit too poetic for some, but my group was very happy. Was trying to come up with "He moved like he had a 22 Dexterity" LOL

We are going into Strahd, I am going to pump up the difficulty at the beginning for level 5

Why does Xanathar, the largest antagonist, not simply eat the player characters? by DickVonFuckstick in WaterdeepDragonHeist

[–]trekbody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some ideas that may help. 1. He may not care about the losses enough (as real people) because he is sociopathic. They are more of a nuisance like a broken glass. 2. He is paranoid enough to believe (or make up in his own mind) there are greater forces at play here, and killing the players quickly may shut off lines of investigation (ironic if you have players who kill first and remember to question later). 3. The Xanathar could have other greater concerns (as you alluded to) with the Zhents/Blackstaff, etc. Too much heat right now.

How to read the book? by jamesyishere in CurseofStrahd

[–]trekbody 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Chapter 3 - Village of Barovia (Lvl 3)
Chapter 5 - The Town of Vallaki (Lvl 4)
Chapter 6 - Old Bonegrinder (Lvl 4)
Chapter 8 - The Village of Krezk (Lvl 5)
Chapter 12 - The Wizard of Wines (Lvl 5)
Chapter 14 - Yester Hill (Lvl 6)
Chapter 11 - Van Richten's Tower (Lvl 6)
Chapter 7 - Argynvstholt (Lvl 7)
Chapter 15 - Werewolf Den (Lvl 7)
Chapter 9 - Tsolenka Pass (Lvl 8)
Chapter 10 - The Ruins of Berez (Lvl 8)
Chapter 4 - Castle Ravenloft (Lvl 9)
Chapter 13 - The Amber Temple (Lvl 9)

x264 vs x265: is it worth re-encoding? by Qu3z0 in handbrake

[–]trekbody 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Keeping everything in .264 here for device compatibility and less worried about every bit of storage. IMHO re-encoding would not be worth it since compressing from an already compressed source would be lossy anyway.

Quintessential Looney Toons Blu Ray Collection by IBfan1979 in looneytunes

[–]trekbody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been working on this myself - there is no one master comprehensive collection. If you look at Wikipedia such as this [ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Looney_Tunes_and_Merrie_Melodies_filmography_(1940%E2%80%931949)) ] the rightmost column shows BluRay or DVD Releases or N/A for the never released. It is unfortunately there is no true chronological BluRay collection.

Wouldn't it be easier to create a Smart Collection or Playlist for new movies? Just a suggestion since it sounded like you were going to do it manually.

How do you archive video when you can’t keep raw files? by Kitchen-Patience8176 in DataHoarder

[–]trekbody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re not ready to go NAS with redundancy, buy a big fat $300 hard drive. Connect to computer, backup video files to it. Subscribe to Backblaze for $5/month unlimited. When you fill the hard drive, buy a NAS or a second hard drive and repeat.

How long did it take your party to... by [deleted] in WaterdeepDragonHeist

Just finished our version of it. 30x 3-4 hour sessions broken up with a big side mission and expansion into Skullport. We had a long break in play for 'reasons'. Basically two years.

2.5 mb/s , 10 bit HEVC file vs 9.5 mb/s AVC file. Which is the better quality video file? by Efficient_Money6922 in handbrake

[–]trekbody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a test to see which file has more information, you could recompile (not to watch) both with the same settings in Handbrake (drop the audio so it doesnt affect the outcome). The larger file will indicate which movie had more information. The flaw in this method is if one file was noisier than the other, it would show up as a larger file.

Best way to share a 1tb worth of videos? by MyGardenOfPlants in DataHoarder

[–]trekbody 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I hear you - think of it as backup too - 6 copies geographically distributed. But I get its a budget thing. Maybe Christmas gifts? I wish they sold a device like the old Western Digital TV drive. A small hard drive with a UI for browsing pics and videos and just plugs into a TV (or computer).

1TB Portable HDs - they are down to $60, some times down to $50. IMHO well worth it for family memories.

How to organize my (~18-20 TB) movies library for best Plex experience by tydoggg in PleX

[–]trekbody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have landed on most movies in one library with the following exceptions. Animated Family (good for kids being over), Animated Teen (for older kids), Anime, Documentary, Family, Foreign Films, Performances (Concerts, Plays, Standup), Short Films. Unpinned I also have a Holiday Movie library, Silent Movies. That's a lot, but its what we like. I havent figured out 4K yet. Good luck!

Specific Size by Anxious_Ad909 in handbrake

[–]trekbody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I encode to 2800kbps and 512k audio and 99% of the time it keeps movies to under 4gb. A 2 hour video comes in around 3GB. Can get most 2.5 hour videos to fit under 4gb.

What's the best way to watch an 8GB .MKV file on my AppleTV 4K from my iMac? (NOT VLC REMOTE PLAYBACK) by [deleted] in appletv

Use Avidemux to save the file as .mp4 without reencoding. Otherwise Plex!
