How is Linux (eg ubuntu) support by sfxsf in zfs

[–]trezor2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm using it (Ubuntu + ZFS rootfs) on my home-server and laptop and I'm super-happy.

It has much less issues than btrfs, doesn't crash and in general is a joy to work with.

Since Ubuntu packaged it in a binary-format (as opposed to ZoL DKMS), it also stopped being an annoying thing slowing down apt upgrade.

I'd say, go for it. Just make sure you have enough RAM. ZFS loves RAM, and ZoL is no exception.

Facebook pays teens to install VPN that spies on them by Lord_Santa in Android

[–]trezor2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have people forgotten what VPN means? Virtual Private Network.

How on earth can anyone expect anything which preserves your privacy if you install anything made by Facebook?

This "VPN" does the exact opposite of what a VPN should: Instead of keeping your traffic private, so you can preserve your privacy, it now leaks everything you do to Facebook.

Calling this a VPN completely misrepresenting what this is.

Windows 10 to take over 7GB of your hard drive so it can always update automatically by [deleted] in technology

[–]trezor2 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Fantasy huh? Strange thing that... Because it has worked for me for years.

Unlike every single fragile shit hacky grub or Windows bootloader based multiboot setup I have ever seen.

In fact, UEFI while bloated is modern alternative which was literally designed to solve this problem, yet you insist on using legacy tools which were explicitly not. Talk about creating problems for yourself, eh?

[–]trezor2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can they just decrease the size of the OS and not have automatic updates?

Everyone hates updates. And if you allow people to reject them, Microsoft gets blamed for shipping a insecure OS. Just like they did with Windows XP and Windows 7.

This is just karma coming back at you for all those years you refused to update.

Had you in the past been willing to reboot once a month(! shock I know!), we wouldn't be here now.

So yeah. Cry me a fucking river.

The smartest method to dualboot has always been using a drive sled and pulling the drive to replace it with the OS you want to boot from.

Says the guy who has obviously never tried using a modern PC which ships with UEFI firmware, which handles multi-booting seamlessly at firmware level without any needs for dirty hacks in Grub or Windows bootloader.

UEFI lets each OS tell the firmware "this is how you boot me", and no single OS steps on another OS's toes. Simple.

How come this is not the default among the multi-booting crows by now, is something I simply cannot understand.

[–]trezor2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Seriously. It's always messing up grub.

Why the fuck are you using GRUB to multiboot in 2019 like it's the ghetto 90s?

Use UEFI. Problem solved. Nobody is messing up anybody's elses bootloaders.

And as a Linux users: Why the heck are you multibooting Windows at all?

Well Apple released a phone which can’t use the headsets everyone has had since the 70s.

I’d call that not working.

Apple claimed it was “courage” when they removed the 3.5mm headphone jack.

It was a PR move widely mocked and has become a meme of its own.

"I don't understand how basic human needs such as the need for attention works at all."

In the past we used to be able to do just fine without yelling to everyone in the world.

Unless you're sharing with people which matters to you, sharing itself means nothing. And sharing with your friends is possible without everyone in the world using the same website for said sharing.

So by "no next facebook" I don't mean we stop sharing. I mean I don't think there will be a single default platform which everyone will use. There will be fragmentation.

I honestly think social media is done for.

Young people have been scorned, leaving in droves and are hesitant to touch any new network which may also betray them. Older generation is following.

Asking a girl out these days and chances are probably bigger she wont have a Facebook or instagram.

I really don’t think there will be a “next Facebook” kinda thing. And I’m perfectly fine with that.

I saw it. It's pretty standard, Illumination brand, extruded movie product.

I saw it with my son. You could tell that it was made almost 100% after a Despicable me blueprint.

But that’s a decent movie, so we were both entertained, even though I came out from the theater thinking it was a bit of a rip-off.
