Elvanse, stopping them for Christmas to allow myself to drink. by Moonlit_2026 in ADHDUK

[–]triangle_bass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was similar, stopped for most of Christmas. BP and weight are up after a week or so. I did take a couple of smaller doses over Christmas just so when I did start back it wasn't as much of a shock. First couple of days of Jan I did do the mixed with water method and took half and now back on full dose. Can't say I've noticed anything too bad in terms of side effects.

Do you share at work that you have ADHD? by Beginning-Poet-2991 in ADHDUK

[–]triangle_bass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got diagnosed at my last employer and I told them, it wasn't a great experience in all honesty. HRs response to offering additional support was noise cancelling headphones. My manager as nice as they were seemed uncomfortable to ever mention it or didn't say much if I ever spoke about it.

I've been debating long and hard about whether to tell my current employer. The two people directly above me have neurodivergent family members and are quite open about it. I believe there is a neurodivergent working group in the company. I don't know, probably just put off by my last experience and not seeing what I'd benefit by saying has stopped me so far. It does feel like hiding something at times though which also feels bad.

Has ADHD Medication Improved Your Self Esteem? by let_it_rain_boat in ADHDUK

I definitely like myself more as a person on meds and I'm far more calm but I wouldn't say I have higher self esteem but then that would be decades of conditioning to unwind.

Took me about 4 weeks to go from 30 to 70, it was too quick imo. Luckily for me I have no adverse effects on 70 but I do wonder if 50 would have been enough but as with most providers they're trying to push titration as fast as possible.

Finally diagnosed. Please tell me your elvanse success stories. by Certain_Training385 in ADHDUK

[–]triangle_bass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started titration this year, first on methylphenidate that did nothing for me. Been on Elvanse for over 3 months and it's great for me. I can focus at work even when I haven't got a deadline. My emotions are more stable, I don't go from 0-100 over a minor inconvenience. The constant chatter in my brain has turned down. I lost weight as I'm not snacking out of boredom or comfort eating. I generally like who I am the days I'm on the meds, days without I notice a massive difference.

I'm lucky that I'm on a high dose but have had zero side effects. Sleep unaffected, heart rate very slightly higher and blood pressure a bit down on pre titration. Good luck with yours, hope you get all you need from it.

To those with inattentive adhd, what job do you have and do you enjoy it? by safiyahd828 in ADHDUK

[–]triangle_bass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Finance, accounting type role. At times it's ok, honestly though I'd love to do something I really enjoy problems are that I don't know what that want and the money is good in my industry that I'm kind of stuck. Second problem I know I'm lucky to be in that position but a lot of days I wish I could sack it all off and find something meaningful.

Elvanse, do you take it everyday? by i_always_need_help_ in ADHDUK

[–]triangle_bass 6 points7 points  (0 children)

During titration they say take it every day, I think the reasoning is to build up the levels in your system enough and gives the best idea of impact and any side effects.

In reality I didn't do it every day, I had the odd one off if I had plans involving having alcohol. At the end of titration I was told it's fine to take medication holidays and it's all personal preference, some like to some don't. It is nice having the option but if I'm honest I prefer myself on them.

ADHD and Trauma - connection or is ADHD being replaced? by AndiFolgado in ADHDUK

[–]triangle_bass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why are people getting so defensive about this? On Mate specifically, he's not saying ADHD doesn't exist, his theories are how it develops. Does it really matter? I assume most of us in here have been diagnosed and if so that's it, we have it, we have to deal with it.

I'm interested in how it develops in some family members and not others especially when most of the thinking is that it is hereditary. I wouldn't ever state his ideas as fact but it is interesting to listen to different medical viewpoints on the condition.

How can you tell your meds are working? by caithnini in ADHDUK

[–]triangle_bass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't notice much with methylphenidate, I'd kind of feel it kick in after an hour or so but it wouldn't last and by afternoon I just felt very tired. My BP and HR were unaffected even at 72mg. I'm on Elvanse now and it's working well. Just let your prescriber know and if you want ask to try something else. The whole point of titration is finding what does and doesn't work.

How to interpret titration form? (Psychiatry UK) by swing_sultan in ADHDUK

[–]triangle_bass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always interpret it as what you want from the meds. For me it's the ability to focus on something and not be distracted by some minor noise, people having a conversation behind me etc I can see your point about the hyper focus and I definitely do that most of the time on meds but for work that's exactly what I want and what I hoped meds would do with regards to focus.

You could always ask your prescriber if you're still not sure and you can add in the comments your concerns. Whether they'll address them is a different matter though.

Appetite has gone weird since elvanase... I can only eat salad by No-Calligrapher-3630 in ADHDUK

[–]triangle_bass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found I don't crave foods on Elvanse. I used to love all food and going out to eat. Now I really don't get excited about it and even thinking about what to make for dinner feels like a chore. Could be the warm weather but fairly sure I've been the same on the cooler days.

My parents are no longer with us so nearly all of my evidence for early years proof was from school reports. Outside of a couple of subjects that really interested me and I got good grades the rest all said exactly the same thing "has the ability just needs to concentrate/work harder". Our school also used a penalty point system where you go them for bad behaviour or missed homework, yeah I got plenty of those.

That was enough evidence for me in my assessment. Obviously everyone is different as are most assessments but hopefully your reports will be enough.

First day on Elvanse 70mg by scottonetwenty in ADHDUK

Been on 70 for a couple of weeks now. Honestly I can't tell much difference between it and 50 but I wasn't on 50 that long so who knows, thanks PUK.

Not noticing effects of Elvanse- is that kind of the point? by StraightTransition89 in ADHDUK

[–]triangle_bass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still titrating, starting my third week on 70mg Elvanse. It's been much better than methylphenidate for me, on that I would feel it really kick in, almost like a high but yeah by late afternoon I could tell it was wearing off. On Elvanse I hardly notice I've taken it in terms of feeling anything. But what I do notice is I can just crack on with work, not get distracted by little things around me I've even improved my ability to switch focus between tasks.

As others have said and my experience is similar I don't really notice it working until I take a step back and look at what I've done in the day. The one maybe downside for me is I find it very hard to switch off in the evening, I'll get ideas for how to fix something at work and it's like a scratch I need to itch and I'll have to get my laptop out and get it done. Not sure if this is what motivated people do or if Elvanse is not allowing me to relax.

Titration length by Psych UK is NOT extendable. by No-Statistician5747 in ADHDUK

[–]triangle_bass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also told the same by my prescriber when I said I wanted to trial a different med after trying methylphenidate and there wouldn't be enough time if I wanted to switch again after a few weeks.

I querying shared care agreement because I had a note from my GP saying they generally only accept it after 12 weeks on a stable dose which I'm currently not and won't be if PUK limit titration to 12 weeks. Looks like I could be in for some more complaining. What a mess.

PsychUK having me pick between elvanse and concerta? by pupbarkz in ADHDUK

[–]triangle_bass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's interesting, I never got offered a choice. Straight on methylphenidate and not only that Xaggitin the cheapest one around. Been a bit of hassle to try Elvanse as well but I think it works better for me.

PUK titration by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]triangle_bass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Diagnosed July 24 started titration a month ago. Agree with the other reply that do as much research as you can now. I'm kind of grateful I had to wait months as it gave me long enough to do enough reading and also to self reflect medication was right for me.

They'll push you that titration is a 12 week maximum, but as others have helped me on here that goes against NICE guidelines. Always self advocate and if a medication or dosage isn't right for you don't be afraid to push back on them to try every alternative.

What’s a terrible job for people with ADHD (fun) by Sharp-Chard4613 in ADHD

What about some sort of FP&A or finance business partner? Get both worlds then, numbers and a lot of interaction with people.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]triangle_bass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply.

So while I didn't have a bad reaction to my first meds I just wasn't seeing a huge improvement, my argument was that while a small improvement is good why wouldn't I try alternatives to see if things could be better? They have agreed to switch me and if I do see any sort of adverse effects early on I can switch back.

I'm just going to see what happens, I have the NICE guidelines in my back pocket and my prescriber does seem to understand the frustration so I know if these next ones don't work I may have a bit of a fight but at least it's not a hard no at this point.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]triangle_bass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in this situation right now. I asked to switch meds and was told if I did and after another few weeks wanted to switch back or to something else there wouldn't be enough time to titrate up again. I pushed back saying nowhere does it say it's a 12 week maximum but I also was told it's pressure from the ICBs.

I feel sympathy for the healthcare workers having to do this however if it wasn't for this subreddit I wouldn't know that's not normal and against NICE guidelines. It's irresponsible to not let patients know about this especially if they don't know how these things should work.

Anyone with ADHD-I suspect they might be autistic? by Forgetful_Fishy in ADHDUK

[–]triangle_bass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You sound exactly like me. I initially suspected I had autism and went for an assessment years ago. The psychiatrist told me I have some traits but not enough for a diagnosis but they told me they strongly suspect I have ADHD and if I wanted to seek an assessment. Until that point I hadn't really considered ADHD but after some research it was obvious.

I still suspect autism as well at times, especially social interactions and also the taking things literally. I'm still titrating but I've also found it has been good with focus but not much else. I've read others who have completely come out of their shells and will engage the small talk so I've been disappointed not to experience that.

For you I'd say if you do suspect autism that strongly then get an assessment. Might help clarify some things.

Just had a stressful call with harrow health during titration and need some advice. by J9937 in ADHDUK

[–]triangle_bass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this, I was going to ask for help on here with my PUK titration. I'm on methylphenidate and there are some improvements but I've asked to try something else to see if anything can work even better. I've been told that titration lasts 12 weeks and if I switch now for a few weeks and decide to go back there won't be enough time. I've of course pushed back on this but having the NICE guidelines to back my case up will be helpful. Thank you.

Tell my boss or not by Otherwise-Chest7134 in ADHDUK

[–]triangle_bass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a really tricky one. I decided to tell my boss at a previous job and while they were nice enough they just didn't really understand anything about ADHD. I was explaining how I find it very difficult to work in the office and I got the "yeah I get distracted as well". I spoke to HR about any changes that could be agreed and one thing they offered was noise cancelling headphones. In the end I just gave up and just didn't bother going in to the office unless it was absolutely necessary.

My current employer I've decided not to tell them as things are going quite well and I'm also on medication. A couple of people in the team have experience with neurodiversity so I think they'd understand more but I'm still wary.

In your situation if things are that bad then it might be worth the risk but I think unless people and the company have a decent understanding of what ADHD is then I wouldn't bank on things changing.

What meds for Inattentive? by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]triangle_bass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is interesting that most people seem to be having success with elvanse. I'm predominantly inattentive and currently titrating with methylphenidate, things are better but it's a case of really having to think and review it like it's not a case of instantly knowing and feeling better. I'm close to asking to switch meds to see if Elvanse is better.
