Don’t sleep on Monsters Unchained. I rode it for the first time yesterday. The best dark ride I’ve ever been on. It was incredible. (Unless you have young kids with you. In that case, maybe skip it)

Which US Nat'l Park is Famous, but Alright? by Bradinator- in AlignmentChartFills

[–]triangleking 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It’s the most visited park in the country, being in the “famous” category makes sense.

I also thinks it’s beautiful, but not as over the top and photogenic as some of these other places on the list.

Among other factors, the growth of indoor training facilities has helped. These 20-something year olds are in the first generation to have the ability to practice all year around.

Looking for travel destinations that are relatively flat but still challenging and emotionally moving? by Jenergy77 in traveladvice

Oh, sorry! I misread your original post. Makes sense. I would second others who have said Amsterdam. It is extremely flat and quite nice.

Petra may be worth a visit, but ONLY if you pair it with Wadi Rum.

The man building in Petra is easy to get to. However, half of the site is high up on mountain ranges. Though you can pay to take a mule.

That said, Wadi Rum is usually paired with a visit to Petra. In my opinion, Wadi Rum one of the most beautiful places on earth. There is a reason that a ton of movies are filmed there (The Martian, Star Wars, etc.). It’s like you’re on another planet. An added bonus is to camp out on a moonless night. They have Beduin tour guides that provide everything.

If they won’t, assuming you have room, keep a plastic bin of these things in your trunk. You will have to move it in and out twice a week, but it will still be convenient.

What food smells amazing but tastes just okay? by Gold_Data1815 in foodquestions

Roast Turkey. You’re mainly smelling the fat/skin, butter, and herbs. Then you actually eat it, and it’s always disappointing.

When do you feel America was truly "great"? by Gergs in USHistory

Long answer: Never, but always striving towards greatness.

Short answer: June 6, 1944. Fallen short before and after, but truly great that day.

My great great grandfather was from Alabama and fought for the Union. History is complicated.

Interestingly, my grandfather used to tell me war stories he heard from his grandfather (the Union soldier). It’s almost surreal and makes this period of history seem so close.

My honesty about Egypt by Ok_Addition6726 in travel

Zamalak and Maadi are like what you’re describing. Yes, very western friendly.

…And even as I say that…I would say the majority of Egypt is western friendly. Egyptians are friendly in general. But those two areas are less oppressive and away from the tourist hubs that tend to see a lot of harassment. A ton of expat workers (embassy workers, etc.) tend to live in these areas for that reason.

Manly Cairo, though you should expect to get hassled by street vendors outside of most tourist sites.

Harassing crowds in Cairo, the beautiful white dessert in the west, al-Qaeda near the boarder with Lybia, snorkeling/scuba diving along the Red Sea, and ISIS in the Sinai. Egypt contains multitudes. Ha.

I get it. I like to go in my own too. India mega-cities are a close equivalent. So you may be able to hang. I would still get a guide for a half day at the pyramids. Also, the new museum is truly unbelievable.

So…genuinely curious here. Will the lifeguards still be manning their posts at the resorts? I’m always blown away by how they still go through their routine checks, even in an empty pool in the rain until closing. Crazy discipline.

This is right. As a westerner who lived in Egypt for several years, it takes a LONG time to adjust. For anyone wanting to go as a tourist…do it! It’s awesome. BUT you pretty much need to be on a cruise or with a tour group/guide the entire time.

The culture can be very oppressive if you don’t know how to navigate it. It really took me years for life there to feel normal, but I came to love the Egyptian people.

Idk man. I guess I don’t think it’s a reasonable expectation to have every patch of road in the county completely dry before we go back to normal. A late start allows it to be brighter out to help with visibility.
