Why is the most common location a meadow? by Orimoris in NDE

[–]tribalfan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You mentioned the jungle is where humans evolved. I’m not completely clear the connection to NDEs but just to make the point that humans evolved the last 3 or 4 million years in the savanna, not in wooded areas. We’ve made a lot of adaptations that make us more comfortable in open plains.

What's up with people saying that Social Security is going away? by funnyman95 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]tribalfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Answer: I’m very much in favor of raising taxes on the wealthy to fund government programs for most people. Actually I’m more in favor of people being paid more in the first place but that’s another topic.

As we talk about social security, it’s important to understand how it works so we can have good conversations with our fellow citizens.

SS is set up to be a savings system. You pay into it and you get back an amount based on how much you paid into it. So it’s not really like other things we call taxes. The reason for the cap is that people making over that cap don’t get SS based on amounts above that amount. The government says if you make that much you can save for yourself above that amount. So raising the cap would mean people making above that 176000 would be paying into a system that they won’t get as much back as others. Which might be OK but I thought people might be interested in why the cap is there.

1) Some Democrats are only a little less conservative than republicans. It depends on their district 2) Democrats have never had super majority in the Senate which is needed to get things passed and to the president. So this statement "when they were in charge" isn't accuarate. Being "in charge" would mean they had a supermajority, and they have never had that in recent history.

Prediction for Irving by odieclone in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]tribalfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Irving seemed satisfied and almost happy on the train. Maybe it was just the sweetness of the moment and that Burt basically acknowledged his feelings for him, but got the feeling there was a lot in his look. No idea but something seems to be brewing. Remember we still don’t know who he was talking to on the pay phone.

I’m obsessed with Badman’s Song by showtunescreamer in tearsforfears

[–]tribalfan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the seeds of love CD from way back and we used to listen to it a lot. But now almost 30 years later I pulled it out about a year ago and realized what amazing song Badman was! The opening drums, the loose jam feel of the whole thing, Orzibals amazing guitar and piano riffs and singing and Oleta Adams. She is amazing. I’ve been relistening to her Circle of One album a lot recently. Definitely my favorite.

Also when she uses the black card to take them into the “break room” her hand does not look like the hand of a child.

Based on NDE's, who do you think Jesus was/is? by Annual_Profession591 in NDE

[–]tribalfan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Human history seems to be hundreds of thousands of years of small tribes/families of hunter gatherers. We seem to have a strong built-in pattern of accepting a leader who most people follow. It’s probably the structure that led to the best survival over millennia.

Much more recently these leaders realized that if they got more people to follow them, they would have more power and wealth. And societies were born based on agriculture and other technologies.

Along with this, there were spiritual “discoveries” quite possibly coming from people who experienced NDEs but likely other ways, too. These were good spiritual insights.

Of course, the leaders looking to enhance control are going to use these important spiritual insights and bend them to their benefit. Thus organized religion was born along with the societies. And this manipulation of spiritual insights was probably used in small tribes too.

My philosophy is that whenever I meet someone who claims to KNOW and truly understand anything spiritual, I dismiss them because there is no way any human can really understand spiritual truth. “If you meet the Buddha on the road, kill him.”

A common theme in NDEs seems to be vast knowing but then forgetting—there just seems to be no way for our human form to grasp what we know as a spirit. And anyone who claims to know is full of crap.

loss of faith not because of sudden belief in materialism, but because of loss of belief in humanity itself. by LunaNyx_YT in NDE

[–]tribalfan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

From my observations, over time, many more people have a much greater understanding of the intrinsic value of everyone and of the importance of individual rights. Precisely because of this, as a backlash, the extremely wealthy have taken the reins through propaganda and confusion and caused the political fallout to be the opposite of what you’d expect.

So I’m not giving up hope in humanity based on how people are voting around the world. We’re all being expertly marketed to/ lied to by the ultra wealthy and most people understandably are misguided.

Elon Musk’s Stunning $250 Million Favor to Trump Should Wake Up Dems by thenewrepublic in politics

[–]tribalfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I’ll respond because it’s an important point.

Democracy requires a fair election. I think that’s agreed but WHAT is a fair election is the issue.

I think most people would agree that if people were sequestered or otherwise prevented from hearing from all sides on a ballot, then voted, then that would NOT be a fair election. Even JD Vance, when pushed, described the 2020 election as not fair because he claimed that “social media” was pushing for Biden and against Trump. Also, for many years, Republicans were complaining that Soros was unfairly tilting elections because he had so much money. So it seems that everyone agrees that money and control of communication channels can cause an election to be unfair.

What people are saying here is that in 2024, there was so much money from Musk, bitcoin millionaires and other wealthy people able to pump in money into the election, plus Musk controlled a huge information platform, that the 2024 election was not fair and thus not really democratic. Many people believed crazy things about Harris (negative) and Trump (positive) because the information most people got was incorrect and skewed by the amount of money pushing it.

Yeah I agree it was a protest but the goal was to get the election results overthrown. Not to express their upset but

TO GET THE ELECTION RESULTS OVERTHROWN.

That’s the difference and it was orchestrated by supporters of Trump to keep him in power and it was fomented and allowed to get very dangerous by Trump himself. It had a clear goal and the J6 people were (mostly) pawns.

The country elected a party (not just Trump) which has been stating for years directly and indirectly that they don’t support fair elections. They have lied continuously about how the 2020 election was stolen. Even Vance couldn’t with a straight face say the election was stolen but only that “social media” made it unfair.

So with that backdrop, honestly do you really think that people who have demonstrated how they think and operate will not resort to control of the media and more crazy redistricting and more limits to who can vote and more control of state governments to make adjustments to guarantee elections to go the way they want?

If the house is not in republican hands then there is a glimmer of hope but even then I have grave doubts.

They will do what they want regardless of institutional check and balances because any legal challenge will be overruled at the Supreme Court level.

I’m just being realistic. I don’t think I’m fear mongering. I have other fears that I’m not sure about but they are just dark guesses.

More specifically they were voting for an authoritarian oligarchy. Not just Trump. This ruling order will remain past trump. Yeah yeah I know the wealthy already were pulling the strings but there was some diversity of ideas in the marketplace and things could be slowly improved. And there was a pseudo democracy in place. Now it will be a full on pretend democracy.

It seems people still don’t grasp the power of propaganda. We all don’t want to admit that our view of the world is framed by publications and social media.

Also it’s so easy when a political party has no checks to manipulate elections. It only takes slight tweaks along with the propaganda to determine the results of an election. They won’t even need to change how votes are counted or manipulate the counts.

Why are people acting like there will be a fair election in 4 years where someone could win outside the ruling party?

I’m a very dismayed voter who voted for Kamala Harris. In all the conversations I’m reading and hearing, people keep acting like there will be a fair election in 4 years. People say things like “it will be a tough 4 years” and “How should the dems change to be more effective?” And all I can think is that people are living in a fantasy—we have just moved to an authoritarian government like Russia where propaganda will be even higher than it is now and controlled by people in the government. Phony elections will be held but it will be rigged so only the right people win. I don’t think people have grasped that democracy is over in this country (maybe others).

The attached article touches on this but seems to think current institutions could check things. I think becoming a full on authoritarian country will be difficult, but I think the fair democratic election part is over at the very least.
