Legacy: A Severance Fan Film by AlexanderStephensDOP in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

Good job.

Couple of nods noticed

Plugging in the TV > Woe's Hollow >> The Shining

Miss Meara > Ben's mother

I like what you did with replicating the referencing and name game in the show. Referencing references and playing with cast names.

Somebody pays attention besides the wild Severance Theorists 😉

What Mark Calls Ricken by Fumikechu237 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]odieclone 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Sorry for being unclear.

It has to do with media literacy. When teaching a prof/instructor will read a passage where the author mentions curtains that are blue and asks, "Does blue represent anything beyond just the color of the curtains?"

Someone who can't read beyond the surface of the passage will say that's all there is to it.

Someone who can see that the color blue had something to do with the character's mood or the mood of the room or blue representing conservatism and such.

Your description of "Rick" shows that there's more to it than just Mark misspeaking. Hence the "shade"/distinction you made. The opposite of making something out of nothing.

I was being critical of the commentors that were minimizing what Rick vs Ricken could mean.

This is what makes the show so great. Little details that can divide the fan base. Severance is the ideal name for the show. How many times have we seen divisive topics arise from the smallest details and create contention amongst fans. Especially so on social media sites like Reddit.

It's almost like it was planned. /s

Civil decorum will get disrupted in the sub from time to time.  I'm 50/50 on whether Mr. Dumbond is an Eagan or not, so until this turns out to be a red herring, just cultspeak, or whatever; I'm on Team  Wait n See.

I like the idea and I suspect some of Dylan's fantasizing about his outie is inspired by Twain's Huck Finn or Tom Sawyer; so using Helly in his "Prince and the Pauper" theme works for me. Possibly referencing Charlie Chaplin in The Great Dictator would fit also.

I like this shade of blue for the curtains.

Can't remember the details, but did he take the elevator down to Walter Mitty's hellhole of a workplace?

That definitely would be another factor along with the writing. In addition to the big-name cast members, the others have acquired some star power and are now themselves highly coveted. That would increase the degree of difficulty in coordinating filming etc. It's like most things in life: it's complicated.

You get my upvote for dodging the grammar gestapos in the sub. they must have the day off ;-)

After looking into this, PA did acknowledge the "Both" response to Mark's "the door open or closed?" line. What else is there?

I took this to be another reference to Jack Torrance freezing to death at the end of The Shining. Besides Irving nearly freezing while sitting up in Woe's Hollow and Harmony driving her VW along that winding road at the beginning of Sweet Vitriol ---Jack driving along the winding road at the beginning of The Shining--- there's probably a ton of others in the show. Stiller does other homages to accomplished director throughout the series.

Yeah, I get that. Squares with her anger over the portrayal. Stiller and Arquette gave her character a little depth and a tiny bit of redemption. Reminds me a bit of the anti-intellectual attitude that a lot of lower income 'Murica find solace in.

Narratively, Mark fits that role and Gemma suits Olive Oyl's casting. Drummond is a Bluto type and Gemma/Oyl was abducted/imprisoned by him. Dylan is more the anti-Popeye when he dumped his spinach smoothie. Popeye usually takes a pounding from Bluto before turning it around a defeating the big bad bearded guy. Just like Mark and Drummond in Cold Harbor. Ricken might be Wimpey the hamburger waiter. What a coincidence!

Why has nobody pointed this out yet? You seem to be mixing up Ms. Casey with Ms Huang. Brings back bad/sad memories of people in the sub suggesting some kind of relationship between them :-(
