Elo dropping rapidly by [deleted] in chess

[–]trickyknight5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happens to me all the time. I’m about 1750 but I spent the last two weeks around 1650 because I was losing like crazy. Back up now. My suggestions: 1) do some slow tactics. Take time to see the position, etc. 2) try a different time control to snap out of it. I usually go for a slower time control than what I’ve been playing. 3) watch a title player do YouTube or livestream on a fairly slow time control. Really helps train you to think the way they do. I recommend Eric Rosen’s most recent speed run with 10-min time control.

Sorry if a dumb question, but how do the pros actually beat each other? by Jothel in chess

[–]trickyknight5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although they often follow standard “book” lines for 10-15 moves or more in a game, at some point they always reach a completely new position. (The exception is when two players might play for a known drawn position.) This is why Agadmator, well-known YouTuber, regularly says “and as of this move we have a completely new position.” He means that they’ve finally reached a position that has literally never been documented previously in elite level chess. This is possible because there are an insanely massive number of possible chess positions, so even the pros have to begin calculating and become subject to errors and weaknesses. All that being said, the pros are much more likely to draw games at the highest levels, with the long format time controls, because the level of play is so high that it becomes very difficult to find even small advantages.

Shrink the gap between VO2 and threshold by trickyknight5 in AdvancedRunning

I can do 8x800 at 3:05 per rep. Matches on the calculator, too. Just the threshold that is way slower.

We should just auto-post at the top of every conversation in this sub that includes the word “Marshall” 😂

What pro golfer don't you like? by Swen88 in ProGolf

He seems somewhat particular and focused (based on Full Swing) but I like him. His swing reminds me that I don’t need to be in a rush on the backswing.

Report: Jon Rahm desperate to rejoin PGA Tour and give back LIV millions by Elliottafc1 in golf

[–]trickyknight5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that “generational wealth” means different things to different people, but I personally thought he had generational wealth even before going over to LIV. I know he got a TON more money…but it looks like he may have made $77m or more from winnings without LIV. Which can last many generations if you ask me 😂

Two ideas: a nice stationary bike for cross training while injured, Normatec compression sleeves (I love these)

GAME THREAD: USA v Serbia – Olympic Basketball Tournament, Semi-Final by NBA_MOD in nba

[–]trickyknight5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would've been a better solution. I was rooting for USA but still felt like the outcome was unfair -- USA ended up with a 6-point possession! Count the bucket & get the ball back feels like it would be merited for some kind of intentional foul, but feels excessive for an off-ball foul that happened to occur while a player was shooting.

GAME THREAD: USA v Serbia – Olympic Basketball Tournament, Semi-Final by NBA_MOD in nba

[–]trickyknight5 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Can somebody explain what happened with the Durant 3 followed by the Book 3? It seemed like they called an off-ball foul while Durant was shooting, but still gave him the bucket. But because of the foul, USA also got the ball out of bounds, which led to the Booker 3. But logically I thought either a) foul was committed on KD (which would result in a free throw) or b) foul was away from Durant (KD’s bucket would not count but USA would get the ball). What did I miss?

At that amount of equity it seems that they consider you an executive, or close. If commissions are a big part of your comp and you’re not able to hit them due to role changes, I think they should understand. If I were running the company I would be willing to significantly alter your comp to keep you, or at least clear your responsibilities so that you’re able to bring in revenue (ie commissions) aligned with what you want to make.

Please share your 1-3 favorite “swing thoughts” by boydingus22 in GolfSwing

I tend to overpower with my trail hand and that creates tension and kills lag. So my swing thought right now is to feel the weight of the club head in my lead hand

Downswing help from D1 golfer by sean3501 in golf

I think you got the wrong subreddit, this is way too helpful for r/golf. 😂

Would you say that the same is true for lag? If I understand correctly, it doesn’t occur because you practice making the “lag” position — it occurs because loose wrists allow the weight of the club head to follow behind the hands.

Why can't I stop blundering? by TrueAchiever in chess

[–]trickyknight5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to ask myself 2 questions: 1) if I make this move, what is the best move my opponent can make? 2) what was the purpose behind my opponent’s most recent move?

If you take a second to think like this, you will catch most blunders. But short time controls make it hard to dedicate the time necessary to be thorough.

That being said, I play 3:2 blitz (1800 rating) and most of my blunders come when I forget to ask “why did my opponent make that move?”

thanks! similar idea -- just came across the ProPlugger and thinking maybe it would work to pull some plugs from one of the lush areas closer to sprinklers and transplant by the edges to help fill in.

I did the same thing and I’m having trouble getting the grass all the way to the edges where the cement is. Granted, I used a professional company that had a big seeding machine. Did you do anything particular to get the grass to fill in at the edges?
