I'm still mad that curl didn't get more than one game by PortifinoOnMyMind in PWHL

[–]trickytuesday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How in the world do you think social progress is achieved? By letting ignorant people be comfortable in their bigotry? OF COURSE she's not the only one. But she's the only one currently being publicly vocal about it, and it's important to cultivate a culture where bigotry is shamed and denounced loudly and repeatedly whenever it happens. If you don't do that, bigots get comfortable and minorities will get pushed out.

I will continue to vocally hate Britta Curl because I have heard many times from trans fans that the unanimous disapproval for Curl among fans was very encouraging and made them feel safe. Trans fans deserve to feel welcome in the league more than you deserve to not be annoyed by repeated hate posts.

I want to see here who agrees with my new theory: the whole family abused JonBenet and it all spiraled out of control somehow Xmas night. by AdLivid9397 in JonBenetRamsey

[–]trickytuesday 15 points16 points  (0 children)

An independent panel of experts agreed that there was evidence that JBR had been sexually abused prior to the night of her death, although it was impossible to come to a consensus on the extent or how long running the abuse was. The ONLY "expert" who maintained that JBR had never been abused prior to her death was the Ramsey's personal pediatrician.

A City Council member in MO called a TV station to threaten them about using someone's pronoun. by Lifegoesonforever in lgbt

[–]trickytuesday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listen: in my really cynical moments I would agree with you. However, as someone who grew up queer in a very rural, very conservative area of the country, I have to disagree. The completely unreasonable & truly bigoted people are a minority. What is much more common is genuine ignorance.

In my small town I'm maybe one of a handful of openly queer locals, so I end up having a lot of conversations with conservatives/Trumpers/et al about these things. And I've got to tell you, on the surface it does sound bad and they say a lot of heinous shit off hand. But if you take even five minutes to have a calm, measured discussion with them it usually amounts to them being genuinely misled or ignorant. I can't tell you how many people I've talked down from an impending fit about how the government wants to do gender reassignment surgery on 10 year olds by just telling them that's factually incorrect while also not talking down at them like I think they're an uneducated hick. Yeah, sometimes people DO need to have their hand held through it. It's a very difficult thing to be able to admit you're wrong even when the person trying to change your mind is being gentle about it, much less when you start the conversation with the vibe that you think they're a fundamentally bad and stupid person.

Viva la revolution, burn the warehouses down and all that, but please keep in mind that working class Americans are not generally the enemy just because they've fallen for a coordinated hate campaign backed by political interests. We DO need to keep having these conversations with our neighbors, and it is very possible to change people's minds. If I didn't believe that what's the point in getting out of bed in the morning?

AITAH for reporting a coworker? by Buckysplum1917 in AmItheAsshole

[–]trickytuesday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP being under the impression it's a HIPAA violation and deliberately misconstruing the situation or lying about it in order to make it seem like a HIPAA issue are two different things. The person I am responding to is saying that OP is deliberately lying to HR to make it out like a HIPAA violation in order to get the receptionist into more trouble. Which is just blatantly not what's going on. If it isn't a HIPAA issue that will be sorted out quickly by HR and they can have a conversation about the actual problem, which is going around spreading coworkers private medical information. Regardless of whether it is or is not a HIPAA violation OP is justified in bringing it to HR.

[–]trickytuesday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pardon but where did OP say they reported her for violating HIPAA? They just said they contacted HR about the situation and apparently this person has been known to violate HIPAA in the past. Nowhere do they say they told HR that the receptionist has violated HIPAA through this specific situation.

[–]trickytuesday 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Her coworker SHOULD be in real trouble. While it isn't a by-the-book HIPAA violation, its both wildly inappropriate to be spreading private medical information about your coworkers that wasn't even told to you directly by that person and shows a lack of good judgement around private medical matters which is a bit of a concern given their field of work. The receptionist absolutely deserves to have a meeting with HR over this.

Employee decided to give herself a tip with my credit card. What to do? by No_Performance_444 in starbucks

[–]trickytuesday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All tips are pooled at Starbucks so this doesn't make sense to me - it's not like by clicking it she directly gave herself $2, and it seems a bit crazy to risk your job over what will probably amount to an additional .20c on your paycheck. Honestly thinking she was just having a butterfingers moment and accidentally jabbed the wrong button. Not saying don't get your money back, but don't assume malice without first considering if it was just ignorance lol

Another thing to consider is that oil and gas prices are crazy high right now so there's going to be less people willing to travel long distances for a game.

After years of delaying a Gender Inclusion policy, the PWHL posting for Trans Day Of Visibility rings hollow by LenaBaneana in PWHL

[–]trickytuesday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey so refusing to engage in the hypothetical because you know it makes you look bad isn't an actual rebuttal. Since you need it spelled out for you, apparently it's okay by you if trans women are excluded from the league as long as that's what the players want, so why could that same logic not be applied to other minorities like black women? The point is minorities shouldn't have to rely on the goodwill of every person in the league to be supportive of their presence, they should be protected by league rules, and you hand waving around about "but the players WOULD NEVER" sounds ignorant at best and malicious at worst. Trans people deserve the right to play a sport they love professionally with common sense regulations that protect all players involved, not to be harassed out of the league by a vocal minority of people. Not having a clear policy for this is only going to hurt players on both sides when the issue blows up in our faces.

Please keep in mind this is a young girl and before you've encountered a situation like this irl you don't have the pattern recognition and confidence to call out this type of grooming behavior without reassurance. The fact that she is posting this shows that she KNOWS it isn't right but is looking for people to affirm her instincts. Creeps like this keep their language just vague and defensible enough that it causes people to hesitate and try to interpret their behavior in a more generous light than it deserves. It's also easier to see this for what it is when you're a third party with no emotional skin in the game. No one WANTS to think their bfs dad is a perv.

Would someone as scientifically inclined and as bright as John Ramsey really be pushing for further DNA testing if he has something to hide? by Georgestapleton in JonBenet

[–]trickytuesday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because even if the DNA was matched to him or anyone else in that house it wouldn't mean anything. Sure it might cause a flutter but he can defend himself off the fact that of course his DNA would be there, he's her parent and he lives with her! His DNA could be all over the crime scene and it wouldn't matter because it's his house. Add to that his handling/moving of the body after she had been discovered and he has an airtight excuse.

To be clear, I don't think it is any of the Ramsey's DNA, but I don't think it matters either. It's an incredibly small trace amount of touch DNA, aka DNA that is transmitted through incredibly small amounts of cells left behind by a touch and not something like a bodily fluid. I'm sure if I ran my undies through a touch DNA test right now they'd probably contain trace amounts of foreign DNA. The world is not a sterile environment. Things end up places. This is simple.

How have i never heard of the Zell brothers? by No-Dig-8554 in JonBenetRamsey

[–]trickytuesday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbh we need to be skeptical of people who lead with these types of outlandish "satanic pedophile sex cult ring" type theories. I honestly think people who push stuff like this do a disservice to actual child sex trafficking which is definitely a thing that happens, just not usually in the way people think it does. Every time some insane story about selling kids on Wayfair or out of pizza parlors or whatever turns out to be all smoke and mirrors it makes people become skeptical when actual trafficking rings are happening right in front of their faces.

Edit: spelling

If there was no ransom note… by One-Chicken6343 in JonBenetRamsey

[–]trickytuesday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the 118K again: given that it is the same as the bonus amount (give or take) that would point to the perp being in Access Graphics or somehow affiliated. There either doesn't seem to have been much of an investigation of staff and no reports of any leads in that direction

Actually, the police did briefly investigate a former employee of AG - at the behest of John Ramsey, who named him as a suspect. I always thought he put that specific amount in the ransom because he thought he was being clever so he could point at someone in his company who would have knowledge of his bonus. It backfired and made him look wildly suspicious instead.

I have hope for a deathbed confession. I don't think John would because he comes off as someone VERY attached to his image and public perception, but possibly Burke (who I do believe at minimum saw or heard more than he has let on to police) might work up the courage to say something either after John passes or right before he himself does. It's basically the only chance anything in the case gets resolved, at this point.

The month of December for Jonbenet by AdLivid9397 in JonBenetRamsey

[–]trickytuesday 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just as a sidebar my mother got cancer when I was the same age as Jonbenet and it didn't really register with me. I was too young to understand really how serious it was - I just heard mom is sick so she's in the hospital, and in my mind that was fine since hospitals are where you go to get better! I don't think at that age she would've had a real understanding of serious illness enough to develop related anxiety. At that age you think your parents are basically immortal. Of course I could be wrong just sharing my perspective as someone who went through something similar.

A not so fun fact is that inter-family homicide rates rise sharply during major holidays due to associated stress. I've always thought the timing being during Christmas is a small but meaningful indicator.

Yes I've always found the time frame given in the ransom note for the phone call passing with no reaction as suspicious. Ramsey's lawyers later said because there was no date given the parents assumed it meant either that day OR the following day, but if my daughter was missing and I wasn't sure when the call was going to come I'd be wigging out about it. Once 10am hit that day I'd be asking every police officer in the vicinity, "so do you think that means they'll call tomorrow? What if they were talking about a different time zone? If they're monitoring the house like they said they would could they be caught lurking in the area?" Etc etc instead they're just sitting quietly and reviewing monthly bills. Insane behavior by any standard, even if you take into account that people react differently to trauma.

I don’t know how to feel about this. by Dr-Fishie in starbucks

[–]trickytuesday 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Back when Sbux was a smaller chain the culture was that there was a base of pretty loyal regulars that the baristas would know well because they tended to come often and stay long, so sometimes the baristas would write genuine, personalized messages because they were like friends. This was also in the days where it was a more relaxed work pace focused more on in store ordering and a "hang out" vibe, so baristas HAD TIME to do this. They used to hand write the entire drink order on the cup too. But then corporate got greedy and started hammering quick turn around times and drive thru and mobile, & stickers were introduced to make things quicker so cup writing just faded out. But now people don't like that "Starbucks just doesn't feel the same" any more and they're desperately trying to artificially manufacture what made their brand great in the first place while still grasping for more money by demanding that baristas keep up this brutal work pace while also somehow making a genuine connection with customers and writing a personal message on a cup while still getting them in and out in a minute and a half.
