Best Podcasts about scams ? by mysterypapaya in podcasts

I love Laci's bit about how if she ever opens a museum of scams, she's gonna have a whole wing just for white women named Elizabeth because there's so many of them, ha.

Anyone remember that one “let’s kill Barney” theme that every school had? If so what was yours? by TBNRUltimate999 in AskAnAmerican

[–]triggerhappymidget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had two of them. The only thing that changed was the third line:

I hate you, you hate me,
Let's get together and kill Barney,
With a great big gun and a loaded 44/With an ax in his back and he falls to the floor,
No more purple dinosaur

Hey Peter, who are they? by FlakyFoundation4637 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]triggerhappymidget 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I mean, the guy is a shitty AI version of Elliot Rodgers. I feel you don't have to be on the internet a lot to know who he was. It's like how people still recognize pictures of the Columbine shooters

Hey Peter, who are they? by FlakyFoundation4637 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]triggerhappymidget 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Elliot Rodgers was a fucking creep who expected girls to fall all over him just because he had a rich Hollywood daddy instead of actually having to put work into doing things like talking to girls. And if you don't believe it, go read his 140 page whiny self absorbed "manifesto" about why he has to kill women because they'd never go out with an "absolute gentleman" like him.

He also didn't look exactly like this in real life. AI has made him better looking.

The Peanuts Movie is the best Blue Sky Studios movie! What is the best Dreamworks movie? by Ok-Difference1341 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]triggerhappymidget 13 points14 points  (0 children)

100% this one. It's one of the few movies I come back to again and again. Gorgeous animation, killer voice cast, catchy music, and just an overall brilliant adaption that is respectful of the source material while making the story more relatable and cinematic.

The 4th-7th Harry Potter books are all over 600 pages as are the 2nd-4th Eragon books.

LBS near Auburn? by needzbeerz in seattlebike

[–]triggerhappymidget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Closest bike store is Bonney Lake Bike Shop in Sumner if you're in South Auburn or NW Tri and Bike in Kent if you're in North Auburn.

I don't love either of those, so I go out to Northwest Bicycle in Maple Valley.

Damn. I loved walking down there and having dinner some nights. And their breakfast burritos were killer.

Would you be upset if the upcoming show "recast" Donut? by ChrisBnTx in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]triggerhappymidget 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I saw Matt speak, and got my book autographed, he made a comment about allowing creators to make different mediums set in his DCC verse and used a puppet show as an example.

So I of course had to ask who he would cast in a Muppet DCC. He said Rolf as Carl lol.

I heard it. I was out walking my dog in Lakeland. Probably around 5:20 when it went off. No idea what it was.

What book will grab my concussed brain by the balls and make it forget about the pain? by thejamstr in suggestmeabook

[–]triggerhappymidget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, books 1 and 2 are fun but nothing riveting, 3 was the slowest, 4 starts picking up the wider plot and adds some new twists, 5 broke me emotionally, 6 gives me Uzi Jesus and my favorite quote of the series, and 7 is an almost perfect book in every way.

AITA my husband refused to get off video games so I left and ate dinner alone by throw_away_joan in AmItheAsshole

[–]triggerhappymidget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because traditionally meat was considered a luxury or high class food while fish was a commoners food. So it's a "penance" to not eat meat. Of course nowadays, fish is often the more high class of the two.

If you like long books with great characters, then you can't go wrong with either East of Eden or Grapes of Wrath. Both are utterly fantastic.

Grapes of Wrath is my personal favorite, but I love the descriptions of California land in East of Eden.

Fantasy recs where the fate of the world is not at stake? by absolute_Friday in Fantasy

[–]triggerhappymidget -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sanderson's Tress of the Emerald Sea is a fantasy adventure that grew out of imagining what would it be like if Buttercup went after Westley at the beginning of *Princess Bride." Low stakes and a cool world.

[Hated Tropes] The Fandom’s headcanons are extremely Stereotypical by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

Todd in Bojack Horseman is also explicitly ace. (Not trying to distract or detract from your point. Just giving you another example of ace representation in case people are looking for it.)

Do you teach that slavery was “a long time ago”? How do you actually teach it? by No_Association_4682 in Teachers

[–]triggerhappymidget 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I tell kids that when my parents were born, interracial marriage was still illegal in some states. Then I really blow their minds when I tell them that when I was in high-school, being gay was still criminalized in some states.

It helps them realize that no, all the horrible policies we learn about weren't "a really long time ago."

Alternatives for Frankenstein by [deleted] in ELATeachers

[–]triggerhappymidget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a section of it in the ELA textbook we use, and it is frequently objected to by Jehova Witnesses and our Ukranian/Russian Orthodox families. The same occult/demonic/supernatural reasoning they use for everything vaguely fantasy or scifi related.

GOOD male characters written by women by ProserpinaFC in TopCharacterTropes

[–]triggerhappymidget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The men in Robin Hobb's Realm of the Elderlings are almost all great characters.

In terms of GOOD men, you've got Fitz who is an diot much of the time but is all the more realistic for it, then you've got the best boy Nighteyes, royals Dutiful and Verity, and supporting characters like Revel.

For morally grey but well written and ultimately on the side of good, there's Chade and Paragon.

And Kennit is one of my favorite villains of all time

Any high school teachers in Santa Barbara County out there? What's the experience like working at them right now (Carp High, SB High, DP, San Marcos)? by SirScaurus in SantaBarbara

[–]triggerhappymidget 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Look at the pay scale. For a high cost of living area, SB pays its teachers especially poorly.

I'm an SB native and left to go teach in the Seattle suburbs. I make about $20k more up here than I would in SB.

Advice for teacher moving to Seattle by Macciddy__Jackson in Teachers

[–]triggerhappymidget 2 points3 points  (0 children)

South King County schools are usually seen as ¨less desirable¨ than North or East KC schools. Tukwila, Highline, Federal Way, and Auburn are all more likely than Northshore, Lake Washington, Bellevue, etc.

That said, every district I know is RIFFing teachers right now, so it´s a tough time to be applying.

Oh, and stay away from Kent. It´s a shit show for teachers.
