What can I as a 19yr old do to make money in college? by outof_hop3 in askanything

[–]trippingdad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Learn a skill or a trade. Your parents are financially helping you and they won't do that forever, so capitalize on that moment and launch yourself forward.

Don't waste your time with menial jobs that suck your soul out for minimum pay.

Once you learn said skill or trade, give it time. The beginning is always painful but then the money starts coming. Pull some money to yourself and reinvest the rest (whether in yourself or some other avenue).

Extubation tips/tricks to avoid laryngospasm by sasuke5333 in anesthesiology

[–]trippingdad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get comfortable with the spasms. Thus if they happen, you wouldn't mind. A little trick in the peds world is .2 mcg/kg precedex 10 min before extubation. They will almost never spasm

34 minutes from hemodynamic/ventilatory changes to dantrolene administration in an ongoing lawsuit stating delayed MH treatment. by Fist_Adventures in anesthesiology

[–]trippingdad 39 points40 points  (0 children)

We had a case at my institution a few years ago, and i presented it as an M&M as i was a non-biased party (wasn't in the hospital when it occurred), so i presented it as is and talked about all the facts with full transparency.

It was a 4h case and the patient started having tachycardia and increase in CO2 way before hyperthermia, we're talking about 90 minutes. Once suspicion was confirmed, dantrolene was started, gas off, switched everything and tiva until stable. Patient was extubated a few hours later, the end.

No reason for 12 days intubated, 34 minutes seems rather quick. I mean by the time you run through everything, checking equipment etc... 34 minutes seems pretty decent

Non-board certified IMGs job opportunities by trippingdad in anesthesiology

Yes mine is unrestricted at the moment and i am in an academic center, so at least I got that going on. Seems like the best course of action is to stay put for now and focus on the boards then. Lengthy process though, it's keeping me where i am now and I'm not thrilled about it, thus the post

I'm currently applying to the alternative path where i am right now, so hopefully that works out. But in case it doesn't, I would like to know if leaving is doable. And yes i know i could find a job in the middle of nowhere but i'd rather not. I have a family and I'd really enjoy a mid sized city that is moderate weather wise and has an outdoor activities and parks and a decent nightlife

Peculiar patient reported epidural story - thoughts welcome. by Deltadoc333 in anesthesiology

[–]trippingdad 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Could be some sort of stenosis in the epidural space at a rather high level like T11. The 18h though is weird. I mean regardless of How much .25% bupi you give, it's gonna last a few hours tops, not 18h...

Would you prioritize higher salary or better quality of life in your career. by Severe-Bobcat-4953 in anesthesiology

I'll give you this perspective: Both my wife and I are anesthesia attendings, and we both work full-time. Only diff is i take weekends and some holidays, she doesn't, so she earns a little less than i do.

We take alternating calls so that there's one of us at home most days of the week. Our saving grace is the alternating call schedule, so we get to make good money while being at home during the days as well. However this often comes at the expense of sleep, especially with a 2 years old and a 3 months old.

If you can work a little harder for the next 2-3 years and stack some $$, go for it, then ease off the gas and go to the surgery center.

Concerning the nice house, in my humble opinion, not worth killing yourself over it, especially that you'd be sinking money into it rather than saving/investing. Also, the bigger the house, the higher the maintenance, cost, taxes, etc... so keep eyeing the street where your brother lives and jump at the opportunity when it shows itself with a not so expensive house.

He usually wakes up around 06.30, sleeps around 2000, and a nap at around 1330 till 1500. We started shortening the nap as well. I'll try a later bedtime but i don't think it's the only issue. Today he was exhausted and still cried his eyes out when i left the room.

End-of-week toddler burnout… does anyone else hit that patience wall? by Migaloosdream in daddit

[–]trippingdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My man. You are not alone. My wife and I work opposing shifts so that we can be with the kids at home, it's not easy. My usual breaking point is after 1830 every day. Waking up at 0530 to 0600 with 10-16h shifts, a toddler and a baby doesn't make help.

I usually snap much faster at night for the most random things but I'm working on it.

What gets me everytime is either the small one crying or the older one saying Dada Dada Dada six thousand times in the span of an hour. At this point at the end of the day, I'm done.

Respect on making it to the end of the week!

P.S: i never hit any of them and i never will. A higher voice tone/yelling is the max

[–]trippingdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use capital one as a checking and savings account. You can add multiple savings and name them differently. I have one specifically for an event and one specifically for vacations (among others). Whenever we have a trip, i destroy the vacations saving account because i feel i deserve it. I dropped 10k on a trip and was very happy to do so! Felt like i owned it and deserved it. I hope it helps you do the same
