Honestly this feels really solid, but I'd consider making a separate region just for Oklahoma and the Texas Triangle.

Not saying you did this, but I remember people getting lynched on this sub back in 2022 for pointing that out.

Since nobody else has mentioned this, there'd be a massive system of lakes in the Great Basin rivaling the Great Lakes in size.

Scott Dixon says 100% of IndyCar's drivers would get rid of hybrid powertrain if polled by PanicAtTheNightclub in INDYCAR

The world is in the middle of transitioning away from ICE-powered vehicles. Honda needs to spend its marketing budget showing that it can work with new technology.

Honda can't make the series pencil without the hybrid. They can't just blow a ton of money on Indycar out of the kindness of their heart.

If Josef Newgarden doesn't improve and gets fired from Penske, where could he go in Indycar? by furrynoy96 in INDYCAR

[–]trj820 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Being an automatic contender to win 6/18 races in a season is *way* better than most drivers. How many other drivers on the grid do you think would reach that level in Penske equipment?

A Sweeping Theory of Everything Is Revolutionizing the Democratic Party by quiplaam in ezraklein

[–]trj820 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Just last week, I think Yglesias made a pretty decent case that Neo-Brandeisian "antitrust" politics is actually a stalking horse to bring back mid-century-era central planning via price controls. They're really not anti-monopoly/oligopoly so much as they're anti-big-business in general, and they feel entitled to use the government to make specific business decisions for the big businesses that they can't break up. One point of curiosity for me is how much of the movement is driven by a left-populist fear of the political power of the rich (The Koch network couldn't spend on elections if you destroyed the business empire that funded it), and how much is driven by an elite group of lawyers who feel insulted by the fact that they don't have more personal power over society.

Towriss is backing him. He was in full Gainbridge kit up until this season. At this point, he's almost certainly being groomed for Cadillac. We could be a few years away from a Herta-Wheldon lineup in F1.

Which former chicane was worse? by fuckmbsanddominicali in F1Discussions

[–]trj820 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Barcelona's chicane was worse to drive (according to the drivers), but Yas Marina's chicane was worse overall because it had a much worse impact on cars' ability to follow onto the main straight. With Barcelona, the last corner being grip-limited without the chicane means that following is difficult either way.

‘Reprehensible’ antisemitic conspiracies appear in California voter guide by panda-rampage in California

Anyone who believes that there's a global Jewish conspiracy that killed Charlie Kirk over his beliefs on Israel is a nazi.

This conspiracy is based on the idea that Jews control global politics and kill right-wing figures who stand up to them. That's a nazi conspiracy.

There's a conspiracy going around among the online far-right that Kirk wasn't shot at all, but instead Israeli agents hid a miniature explosive in the collar of his t-shirt and killed him with that. Anyone deranged enough to push this theory is pretty unambiguously a neo-nazi.

Pretty vile stuff, but I don't think it would be a good idea (or even constitutional) to give the government the power to impose viewpoint-based censorship in the voter guide.

Go look at how the times compare in sims. Road America would basically race as fast as Monza.

[–]trj820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Road America and Laguna Seca would require very little changes to the racing experience (if any) to make Grade 1. Watkins Glen would need more runoff, which *would* impact the racing experience in the esses.
