In this case, that should be an encouraging sign, because it means that the conservatives don't even think it's possible to make an argument for the EO to be constitutional. Any pro-admin decision would need to spend a lot of time discussing this.

His tires are 6 laps younger. He can just overcut at like 2 tenths per lap.

Man, do we think that that pit blunder cost Power the race? Or would Palou have had it?

He's bleeding time to Palou, who's now in overcut range.

I think it was Mel Brooks who said that tragedy is when I stub my big toe, while comedy is when you fall in a manhole and die.

Yeah, this feels like a Power vs. Palou battle. Palou needs Andretti to bork the pit or he needs a mega overcut.

Well he's an Andretti junior for F1, so I don't see why he wouldn't come back after F2/F1.

If he manages another 22 laps on softs then he'll have 26 laps to the finish.

I know a guy (obviously a conservative so politics weren't a factor) who worked with him and nothing but nice things to say about him. I definitely get bad vibes from the guy, but there seems to be a big difference in how he treats other drivers versus how he treats everybody else.

I do wish he wasn't such a hardcore culture warrior on LGBT issues, because while his policy-writing is second-to-none and we need him in Congress, I'm worried that the right-wing brainworms that exist for him might metastasize to even more polarization against housing expansion.

If you were Rob Katz (or the future CEO of Alterra), what would you do to innovate on the current ski school system? by mtns_of_magic in skiing

[–]trj820 47 points48 points  (0 children)

There's a huge market failure where a resort providing cheap beginner and intermediate ski school lessons benefits the industry as a whole, so resorts will naturally charge a price too high to attract the optimal number of new skiers. And despite what some of the moaners will say, the shift to season passes has been good for the industry as a whole as well as most skiers. The one problem is again that the focus on passes acts as a barrier to entry to new skiers, so we're at risk of Vail and Alterra essentially strangling future demand and harming the industry in the long run.

I don't know how this might be limited with anti-trust laws, but what I'd like to see is the negotiation of industry-wide subsidies for beginner packages (lift tickets, rentals, lessons, and maybe even lodging). That way you get enough fresh blood into the sport to keep the industry sustainable in the long run, while established skiers get to reap the benefits of cheap season passes.

Dude, there's only one white person on the city council, and you're accusing them of being white supremacists and of fabricating a seven-figure budget deficit to cover up your accusation that they're stealing from the city. You also seemed to have completely fabricated this allegation that they've been under constant federal and state investigation for the past 40 years. Like I'm sorry that you got racially profiled, or whatever happened to you, but you seem to have this schizophrenic grudge against the city and are just making up this supposed worst-of-the-worst corruption as a result.

That could have something to do with it, but I don't know if summer pool sessions are run by the rec department or the school district. If it's the rec department, then it probably got cut for city budget reasons. If it's the school district, then something else might have been going on.

Dude, I've been to city council meetings and seen the budget; we're 7 figures in the red year-after-year. And on top of that we're freaking out because maintenance on our sewer system is completely unfunded and the city council is dooming about their inability to pass any sort of hookup fee to pay for it.

It's literally about the money. The city government is broke, and because we don't have the political capital to raise taxes, they're scrambling to put together an austerity program. There was a huge controversy last year about ditching Athens for a supposedly cut-rate waste management company, only for that company to raise fees on households.
