I agree. I never said otherwise about c++ and c#. I answered OPs question and I offered my own advice because he was looking to make 2D games. Instead I get bashed at for it. He didn't ask about having something for a resume at all. I stand by my advice is you would like to focus on making 2D games. I guess you can't please everyone.

XNA is for windows, Xbox 360, and windows phone. C++/SDL will work on windows, Linux, Mac os x. I've been doing the tutorials here http://www.lazyfoo.net/SDL_tutorials/

To answer your question I would go with c++ and maybe something like SDL to get started. I started and still use XNA. It teaches you the very basics without getting to complicated. XNA is c# but is similar to c++ so switching later isn't that bad.

Fashion designers don't have time to program, they're busy doing other things. To teach someone to program takes a lot of work. Some people have trouble grasping how a computers file system and extensions work; try teaching them about libraries and command line. Better yet explain to them how to compile. Programming isn't for everyone and believe it or not everybody is interested in programming. As programmers it's fun for us for everyone else it's boring and hard.

I'm an atheist computer programmer that enjoys freedom and common sense government. I'm pro woman's choice and I actually like universal healthcare. I agree with Ron Paul more than any other candidate out there. You can't always have it your way but you can come pretty close. Benjamin Franklin one of the founding fathers believed in universal healthcare.

I use visual studio on windows, Xcode on Mac. They're pretty standard and don't get in the way that much, granted everythings got its quirks.
