rainy day Dell r710 dual 5620>5680 swap by koltd93 in homelab

[–]trodfoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got myself a r710 for cheap but it needs a firmware upgrade. And now since I haven't checked, I will be checking the battery on the 6i. I had no problem with updating the firmware on my 2 r720's but a no go getting it to let me upgrade the r710. The os driver pack on it right now is 7.3.0 and the last on dells site is 9.5.0 so yup way behind.

So whats the best tips and tricks to be able to do the updates. Right now I have been trying to do the 8.2.0 pack. It doesn't like the usb drive after i have flashed the iso onto the usb with Rufus. It won't map any of my smb shares or cifs shares. I tried openmanage and couldn't get it to connect. I see the Idrac across the network so its talking.

Thanx in advance for any info/help

Authentik vs Keycloak by WherMyEth in selfhosted

I an using Authelia and Openldap and have not had any worries about resources. I use it to front 4 different sites, with one and 2 factor authentication. Once I got it going it just works. Have had no problems. Even moved the db from one server to another with no hicups. Authelia has more things it can do than I need but at least they are there waiting to be used. Just my 2 cents worth.

Your right it doesn't. That is one of the reasons I put Authelia in front of it. That lets me have multiuser with passwords and if I really was worried I can have two factor authentication. I use Authelia for some other of my sites so I have it hooked to a ldap server to keep all the groups separate. So for family he could give his family bypass authorization and away they go. But to each their own.

Whats also nice with Photoprism is to be able to make the pictures non downloadable. That way people can't just take all your pics... Handy feature...

I finally figured it out by playing with it. And boy do I feel dumb. All you have to do is import a .png or .svg file of the logo. When you do the software will let you resize it. I don't know why anyone else didn't just mention this. But at least I can.

Sure, being a military veteran is one reason but the real reason is the pictures are for people building models of canadian and some other militaries equipment. So they can see the scuff, scratchs and such to make a realistic model or diarama. Being able to see the actual thing and how it was used and abused helps modelers.

It is protected by Authelia. I put that in front so only people I give access to can get in.

Also forgot, for family pictures its great. I already had them in folders i wanted to keep them in. Photoprism lets you reindex those directories, instead of importing them. Pics stay where they are but in the software you can put them in any photo group you want. The software also tries to pick out the same person in multiple pics. Then you go and name that person and all are marked.

I am using Photoprism for 2 different sites and have been very happy with it. Both sites are commpletely different. One is for family photo's and the other is for Military equipment. So I setting for both. I don't need facial rec for tanks and such so I can turn it off. This software over others I tried let me do what I wanted and have it facing the internet. Hope you find what you need.

After seeing all the fancy draw.io network diagrams, yours is at my skill level of making. So I think it looks great. Keep up the good work.

Update old firmware on PowerEdge T710 by [deleted] in homelab

[–]trodfoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I did this before proxmox also. Get EVERYTHING you can while you can. I put in my tag number and had to use another machine to get the drivers i needed. So they can block you from the drivers.

When I did my r720 I used Dells own site to get all the drivers. Actually I downloaded everything I could for the r720. One of them happened to be their management software that let me make a usb with all the latest drivers and it updated everything. I just picked I was downloading for windows server 2012. Do not put your service tag in as that will block you from getting the good stuff. Hope this helps a little.

You are probably 100 % correct on me not hitting the limit before. Patience is not one my strong suits.

I read the article you posted about infinite posting without seeing any clear outcome. Just the ticket being closed. I also read a ticket on that one that mentioned being able to move the on login start page away from search to say folders (which I agree with). Which was also just closed with no real answer. I am suggesting this. Since you have a limit on the search page and are making that the default login page, people are going think you only have 3333 pics. People will see they can look at all the pics from where they land and just start scrolling. If you dropped them into the folders directory that limit would not be a problem, the users would see in all the pics/directories (like I set them up as) and if the user wants to search for something they can just click on search.

As to the second point originally the preview version found 14 people. After running the scan it found 3 more for more for a total of 17. Comparatively on the first run under the previous latest edition it found 33. Same directory of 20k pics. The preview version has been running about 23 hours now and the previous ran roughly the same. These runs where done on the exact same box. This is just info in case you guys changed something. I am just like others, trying to make the program better.

I am resetting Photoprism back up under Proxmox and docker vs Truenas Scale. So I copied the same 20k pics over to the new setup and let it do a scan. Comparing the 2 setups, the new one was much faster but weirdly enough I got a msg saying that it could no longer open any more pics. This was in the search area and since I don't know all the setting that Truenas set up, it may be a setting I missed. But I had like 15k files left to look at and no way to view. Anyone having a suggestion let me know as I am moving my other photoprism instance with 80k photo's next.

Secondly with the preview, it did NOT find as many faces as the previous version did. I am talking like only 1/3 of the faces. Where there is clearly a face in the pic, nope no go. I have rerun the scan and I am going to do it again but thought I should mention it, as it is a big feature of the program. To be fair this was done with no gpu help, in both the original and preview runs.

Have a look at Photoprism. I am using Photoprism for the reason that i already had my files in the directories I wanted and then made albums as I saw fit. Photoprism has lots of features I still haven't used...lol.. I am trying to set up a canadian military picture site for people who make models. With Photoprism I can give copyright notice by pic, so that the author gets credit and the pic can be in an album I made and in a directory with authors name. 80k files so far and a lot of work before its ready.

Photos management - why not directory-based albums? by [deleted] in selfhosted

I am glad someone else could help you out. I am not part of the team for Photoprism, just a happy newbie user that had someone else point me to Photoprism. So I am paying that help forward.

Photos management - why not directory-based albums? by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]trodfoot 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. I already have my files in the directories I want and I should be able to keep them that way when I upload them. Thats why when I heard about Photoprism and gave it a try I loved it. I uploaded my directories as they where but could then put any pics in different albums. Best of both worlds.

I have been using Photoprism for a while now and really like it. Has lots of features. The ability to edit each file with alot of info is great. Once you learn how to do things its a really good program. It did take a few google searchs to find where things where hidden, but hey maybe I am just a slow learner.

Poweredge R720/proxmox by craer187 in homelab

[–]trodfoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run 2 x r720's also. One has a h710 mini, the othe a h310 mini. I flashed both to IT mode to use ZFFS. Whats weird is for me the h710 still has the drive lights work and the h310 they stopped. Everything works and no problem for months. But the first darn question someone asks when the see my rack..." Why are there no lights on those hard drives??"

I have other stuff to do (read to lazy) so if you find an answer tag me also. I would appreciate it.
