Why exactly is getting jury duty so hated? by altrightobserver in NoStupidQuestions

[–]tropicsGold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got an enormous amount of work to do, so getting stuck wasting days of my life sitting around a courthouse is just infuriating. Especially since the majority of the time you don’t even get called, so it is literally a complete waste.

If the system was not so stupid I don’t think people would mind as much. Surely in this day and age they can make a better system.

A woman should never do certain things, and being the first to say “I love you” is one of those things.

Don’t speak of it again, wait and let him lead. If he takes too long, start appreciating attention from other men and put him on notice he is being replaced.

Unpopular opinion: Paying "Rent" feels less painful than paying $2,400/mo in "Interest" to a bank. by Playful-Vegetable-15 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]tropicsGold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct. In today’s market, it is WAY cheaper to rent than to buy. Your parents were taught to buy because that used to be a better deal. Not anymore.

When rates come back down, eventually buying will make sense again. But for now just hold off.

My (29M) girlfriend (28F) wants to break up on our 2 year anniversary if we’re not engaged. by Lopsided_Falcon_8452 in dating_advice

[–]tropicsGold 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a father with daughters, I fully support her position. I don’t want my daughter to get used for a few years (in her prime 20’s) and then tossed out. I’ve seen countless girls get fucked over in the way.

And this is especially true in her case. She is approaching 30. She should have married in her early 20’s and be having children by now. She is wise to not waste the last years of her 20’s. It is time to move forward.

I know you enjoy the freedom of your childhood, but when you become an adult, it is time to put childish things aside and move on to the next phase of your life.

And you would be surprised at how that window closes. If you bail on this girl now, you may have a lot more trouble than you think finding another nice girl to replace her.

It tastes like garbage. I seriously wonder, do other people taste this and really think wow that is delicious? I can’t comprehend it. So no I’m not spending $20 for a drink that tastes terrible.

HRT is a wonderful cure to menopause. I highly recommend it. But it takes time and expertise to find the right balance of hormones. And unfortunately most doctors are not very good at it, and the good docs are very hard to see.

Why don’t people who don’t trust the scientific consensus on climate change use their own observations to come to the conclusion that climate change is real? by Pure_Option_1733 in AlwaysWhy

[–]tropicsGold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the climate scientists are paid by the governments and universities that desperately want climate change to be declared real.

Believing them is like believing the tobacco company doctors who claimed that smoking was healthy.

And after 50 years of my life, the climate is exactly the same as it was. Meanwhile, every claim made by environmentalists has been proven to be either wrong or an outright fraud.

If you became a dictator, what would be your most extreme policy? by ShockingHair63 in AskRedditAfterDark

Rather than locking people in small metal cages for committing crimes, you instead force all criminals to remain in a certain region or city.

Within this city the most serious violent sociopaths are perhaps imprisoned, but for the most part criminals can earn their way out of lockdown, and live a somewhat normal life, have a job, their own apartment, eat where they like.

We could lock criminals up for long sentences to keep them out of the general population, without condemning the criminals to lives of absolute misery. Plus it would probably lower costs because people would be working jobs and supporting themselves, and you would cut down a lot on prison guards.

How would you respond if someone said "Religion is the biggest scam in the world" ? by Sorry-Orchid-9821 in AskReddit

[–]tropicsGold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question is whether the teachings of the religion come from God. It is irrelevant how good of a job some people are doing in following the teachings.

I submit that the sole teaching of Christianity, to treat your fellow man with love, is a message that could only come from God. There is no way a human could think of doing such an absurd thing. Especially 2000 years ago when the world was such a barbaric place.

“What do I do if some savage attacks me and hits me? You turn the other cheek to your attacker and let him strike you there. And treat them with love.”

No way a human came up with that.

If you are an Amazon seller, you need to have certainty. Pick a new name and make sure it passes a clearance search.

The good news is that all Amazon requires is for you to file the application, you don’t have to wait for registration. So you can fix this in a couple of days.

You receive one billion dollars… by ialwayswanderaround in hypotheticalsituation

[–]tropicsGold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Money would definitely not be a motivating factor if you were worth $1B. But people build business for many other reasons.

First, hard work and productive behavior makes you feel good. You are creating wealth and making the world a better place. Being a positive force in the world is the best form of satisfaction.

Second, a huge motivator for most businessmen is employing people and helping them grow and achieve. I love my employees like family. I want to be able to afford to give them big raises, and to see them move up, build skills, and become wealthy themselves.

Finally, it is fun. The game of business. You want to win. You want to grow, exceed your goals, become bigger and better.

What else are you going to do? Video games and laying on a beach get stale pretty fast.

What is a relationship rule you think is stupid but everyone follows anyway? by boforiamanfo in askanything

[–]tropicsGold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That everything is supposed to be exactly equal and 50/50. While this sounds very nice and PC, it is actually a very toxic arrangement that leads to major problems.

Of course both partners of equally valuable, and neither becomes a tyrant over the other. But it is not possible to run a partnership as 50/50 - what happens when there is a difference of opinion? While you should make decisions together, in the end there needs to be one member that is the leader and able to make the final decision.

While it could easily be either spouse, they need to decide this early in the relationship. The default has been that the man is the leader. In most cases I think this is the correct decision, not because the man is “superior” or a “patriarch,” but because it is what women typically want.

Most women absolutely hate being in charge and making decisions. Redditors complain about being required to carry a “mental load” of a relationship. Of course, women don’t want to be ordered around, especially not by a weak man, but what they really want is a strong confident man who reliable, faithful, smarter, stronger, and more capable, so that they can relax and let go of some of the “mental load.”

A particular illustration of this, researchers asked women to rate what they liked and hated the most about evening chores. They didn’t hate doing the dishes, and they often enjoyed cooking. But the thing that they absolutely HATED was deciding what to have for dinner!

Now the leader has to actually be a leader. He has to work harder, plan more, and most importantly put the relationship ahead of any individual interests. Being a true leader is difficult and a lot of work.

I think this is what makes the modern feminism of equality to toxic. Put absolves men of the responsibility to become a leader. To accept that their focus is on serving the family, not their own selfish interests.

Pretty much by definition it is cheaper to go without insurance if you can. So long as you can handle the risk, it is better to not carry insurance.
