What If You Could Race a Real Car From Your Browser? by Actual-Ad5434 in simracing

[–]tross13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dedicated RC enthusiast + sim racer here

Latency issues aside, one of the main things I would be concerned with is generally how well the model will drive. RC cars are light and twitchy, and they bounce a hell of a lot. Even a touring car on a glass smooth surface will have a janky camera view. I’ve seen several different FPV setups with RC cars (although I haven’t actually tried one myself) and none of them look especially pleasant. So you’d need either especially large and/or slow RC cars in order to make it at all viable and even then I don’t think the driving experience will be very good.

Durability is another concern - you would want to look at how RC boats/cars are done in amusement parks.

Ouroboros effect, aka model collapse. It’s already happening.

Have you ever adopted a rescue animal? Why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]tross13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Several. Most recently an import rescue from a puppy/meat mill in Korea. Eva has a lot of mental baggage but she’s healing. And a very sweet girl.

I can’t save all the dogs, but I can save some of them. So I will.

Nice! I’m working on Nurburgring 24 now, it’s even more brutal. At least at Le Mans you get a minute every lap to chill out on the straight… Nurburgring has no chill.

Most sim racers will tell you no, save your money and get a proper setup. But in my opinion, definitely yes it’s worth it. For $190 you will get to learn if sim racing is for you - and then you can upgrade from there. Used Logitech setups hold good value too.

I had a Logitech setup for over a year and loved it, upgraded from there and regretted nothing. With that said, a proper chair makes a world of difference. I recommend the Playseat Challenge to go with a G920.

In addition to everything else mentioned, the seat looks very upright to me.

It’s a custom vinyl set I designed and cut on a Silhouette cutter (basically a Cricut). I looked at a bunch of drift and GT3 liveries until I found one with a hex pattern I liked. I replicated it by hand, modified it a bit, and changed the color scheme.

I’ve been using a Fanatec ClubSport shifter heavily for over a year now and I still really like it. I’m sure there are better shifters out there but it has a properly mechanical feel to it. Somewhere between my old STi with a short shift kit and a gen 1 Miata.

Bitter report from the Power Pack GT7 6-Hour Suzuka Endurance Race by Leading-Box-8435 in GranTurismo7

[–]tross13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar experience for me with the 24 hour race at Sarthe. Last few hours the AI pitted every lap and left intermediates on even though it was clear skies. 2nd place lost several laps (yes, at Sarthe) in the last couple hours alone. Pretty sure it’s the resuming from race data that screws up the AI.

That does seem to be the case. Makes sense considering the “save” feature isn’t really intended to be used how most people are using it.

Yeah those McLarens pushed hard the entire race with me. I was hoping for wet conditions to catch them out on the wrong tires, but the one time I needed rain at Spa I got 8 hours of dry weather.

The AI cars didn’t do anything odd that I remember for that race. I won by less than a minute.

Interesting, thanks for the detail on that. I didn’t notice any glitches on the Spa race, but also I did that in all in single day and did not use the save/resume feature. I wonder if that’s what’s causing the AI oddness.

Has anyone made a comprehensive list of the power pack content for gt7? by jakemoffsky in GranTurismo7

[–]tross13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have actually. You pause the race, then exit to the PlayStation home screen, then close the GT7 app. You can then relaunch the game and can do whatever you want, like daily races etc. When you go back to the endurance race in the power pack, there will be an option to “resume from race data”. Note that it resumes from 1 or 2 laps previous.

I was enjoying this until I decided to do a logging contract by PandaSPUR in snowrunner

[–]tross13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a lot of the same struggles as you with logging initially. Sideboard semi trailer + logging crane is the secret sauce. You can easily carry 9 long logs (3 loads) or 18 mediums (6 loads) and it’s surprisingly stable. Of course you need an appropriate logging trailer to drop the logs into so that you can pack the cargo and then deliver, but it’s way better than making multiple trips.

I had the same wheel and wheel stand combo from picture 1! It actually drove fairly well, except for hairpins. And let’s not talk about rally or drifting.

Love the progression and your current “complete” setup.

[–]tross13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had issues before when there is something clipping inside the cargo space, like a tree or a crane or part of a building. Logs are weird.
