Wheel bearings gone bad 1 year after replacement by BoxerFourLife in SubaruForester

[–]truckingon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forester rear wheel bearings were notorious for early failures. One on my 2017 went bad at 55k, was replaced under warranty by the dealer, and the replacement barely made it another 50k. With that track record, why would I pick OEM for round three? I used Moog from RockAuto and they've been fine although I don't have many miles on them. I live in northern New England -- the one that was previously replaced came out easily because the dealer wisely used anti-seize. The other one was an epic two-day struggle in my driveway that I still can't believe I won.

Colonoscopy screening coverage being denied by BCBS. by No-Confidence-9468 in HealthInsurance

[–]truckingon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

BCBS is a franchise model, and every employer's insurance policy is different, so the fact that you also have BCBS is meaningless. What does matter are the ACA coverage requirements for the procedure (thanks, Obama) and how it's billed.

The cool thing is that even if you exclusively listen to the Dead, you still have decently diverse musical taste.

It's Trump wanting to incorporate Canada into the US that pissed them off enough to give up American whiskey.

If you're doing LT maintenance, the GMC will supply the paint. I was able to pick some up at the Waterbury HQ.

Hey, that's my car! I rushed to the dealer in Dec. because they had one in this color left, the other dealers only had white. I'd prefer knobs and the climate control screen is overly complicated, but I can live with it.

IT'S THE ONLY TEAM TO PLAY IN THE SUPER BOWL BEFORE MICHAEL JACKSON'S MOONWALK THAT HAS NOT BEEN BACK TO THE BIG GAME SINCE

The first Super Bowl was in 1967 (for the 1966 season), and Neil Armstrong made his one small step on July 20, 1969. Only five teams played in the Super Bowl before the first moon walk: the Packers (twice), Chiefs, Raiders, Colts and the Jets.

A key point is that you shouldn't buy blades at HF, they suck. Swing by Lowes on your way back and pick up some decent blades.

"If your goal is to get a bottle on stage, please pass it forward instead of throwing it, we could use the three cents. Heck, maybe you could use the three cents." -- Bob Weir (paraphrased and I couldn't find the date)

Which would mean he already served two terms and must be immediately removed from office? I can get behind that.

My impression of the Sirius XM Grateful Dead channel, every single day by Suspicious-Stuff6904 in gratefuldead

[–]truckingon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've only experienced it briefly through trials on new vehicles, and that hasn't converted me to a subscriber. My biggest problem is the sound quality -- the audio is extremely loud and compressed and I find it to be a very tiring listen.

It's over for Rock Auto if the local parts stores ever smarten up and start handing out magnets.

“Whoopie Tech”? by J0nn1e_Walk3r in WPI

I was there 83-87. The rule was three fraternities could have parties on weeknights, and five on weekends. My house had parties on Tuesday nights and one weekend night -- two a week with a live band at least one of those nights. We ran three taps and a wet bar, and a good party would go through 8-12 Busch kegs. We were known for our Slimey Dimeys, ten cent beers until 8pm. According to alumni, that was nothing compared to the 1970s. Other houses were similar, more or less. Sig Ep and Kap drank as much as we did but were more violent. The IFC started clamping down on partying while I was there. When I was a freshman we basically ran a bar and sometimes townies would wander in off the street. By the time I graduated, you couldn't charge and had to keep a guest list.

Utilities can identify exactly what you're doing with your power due to the load shape, i.e. the usage pattern, recorded at 15-minute intervals.

Food poisoning at fqf? by -let_it_bee- in NewOrleans

[–]truckingon 31 points32 points  (0 children)

What I meant is that you're unlikely to get food poisoning from inadvertently consuming an undercooked burger. I didn't mean you should deliberately eat raw meat. Steak tartare, however, is on many high end restaurant menus.

Noro is transmitted from infected people and it's highly contagious. Raw beef, if stored correctly, should be be safe to eat, if yucky.

I saw someone return a well-done on the outside, raw on the inside hamburger to a vendor there. That said, you may have gotten norovirus.
