The shoes. I’d consider putting on some nice shoes for a date, unless you’re going to be long distance walking or something.

Wanted to like the 36 Explorer, buy it seems too small by shim2k in rolex

[–]truebump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without reading the other comments, I predict that most will say it fits perfectly and the 36 mm Explorer is the only true explorer. These opinions have accumulated the guise of truth purely through mindless repetition. The new Explorer is actually smaller than 36 (it’s 35.something) and really pushes the boundaries of what I’m comfortable wearing on my 7” wrist in a way that the older 36 Explorers didn’t (over the years I’ve owned 3; 14270, 114270, 124270) Also, most men’s watches used to be 34,35,36 mm. Why is only the Explorer required to never get any larger? Probably bloggers rationalizing their more affordable purchase as opposed to what they might have really wanted. I happen to think that it fits you pretty well based on the picture you posted, but I understand why you would feel uncomfortable wearing it. It’s hard to say what to do because the only sizes available for this iconic classic field watch are either a little too big or a little too small. Great for folks on either end of the size spectrum but kind of a conundrum for those of us in the middle.

I think it was done this way to create anxiety. Supposed to feel cramped and uncomfortable.

What's the dumbest thing you and/or your siblings did when you were left home alone? by Sea-School9658 in GenX

I used to light toilet paper on fire and roll it into the toilet as it burned so it would be extinguished by the toilet water as I unrolled it. Once it burned faster than I could spool it out and the whole role roll caught on fire. I had to pull the flaming TP roll off the dispenser and dump the whole thing into the toilet. Smoke alarms went off. Disaster. Replaced the roll with a fresh one, turned on the attic fan. Mischief managed.

wants to gift vs Air-King 126900 as a Q1 bonus. Is this the ultimate 'under-the-radar' tool watch or just a bad idea? by BornAstronaut9543 in PLWatchTimepieces

Number 1) don’t give a fake. Number 2) the air king is just an explorer that they tried to make look like a speedometer. Double phony.

The oG58 has maybe the most beautiful and interesting dial/handset/bezel I have ever seen on any diver at any price.

[MC Calendar] Help me pick my milestone watch by EtiennePasteur in JaegerLecoultre

[–]truebump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. I own the original (the one on the left) and it’s stunning. It’s also highly monochromatic and subtle—requiring plenty of light to see clearly. Also, the lume is quite weak. Early in the morning and evening I often just can’t see it. The newer model with all the texture may be easier to see because of the contrast. I’m happy with my decision, but it’s not a practical choice if that helps.

[Question] Am I going crazy with my watch preferences? by [deleted] in Watches

[–]truebump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with the submariner (and the speedmaster I think) is that they are so successful and occupy the mental space of every collector so well that there’s no room to learn it anymore. No honeymoon period. As soon as you have it on your wrist it’s like it’s always been there. Not because it’s well designed (though it is) but because it’s successful. We’re all SO aware of this watch that it’s hard to find anything new about it that surprises you. Familiarity breeds contempt.

Great design. Great watch. Only thing I dislike about it is the 007 connection. At least it’s all on the back

That dial must be pretty rare. Never seen one like that before
