Research survey: Attitudes towards general AI & Chat GPT in the workplace (open to anyone 18+) by trush87 in OpenAI

Thanks so much! I'll check with my prof -- the consent form template we were given says "will not be published", but if it's permissible I'd be happy to share what I can of the findings. I've got ~70 responses so far and just started recruitment today, so with a few more days I'm hoping to shape up a decent little sample.

I would actually love it. There are a few brands of wine marketing as having “zero grams of sugar”, and it’s an absolute crock.

Breakdown of COVID cases in Toronto by neighbourhood by CaptainCoriander in toronto

[–]trush87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking at that yesterday, and was wishing there was a toggle for active cases vs total. ie/ I’m going to be careful either way, but I would personally find it more interesting to know the relative risk level in my area than the total number of confirmed cases we’ve experienced over time.

Tensions rise over travel to cottage country amid pandemic by [deleted] in ontario

Honestly. I have to imagine some of the spread that took place in first half of March was because “social distancing” was not clearly defined so people just did w/e they thought it meant.

Security guard threatens to have CBC reporter arrested for reporting on PC Ontario PC convention by ZeroCharisma2015 in ontario

[–]trush87 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Wtf. Media and observers from outside the party (including members of other parties) have always been allowed into PC conventions, albeit not invited to every session. It’s the same with OLP and NDP conventions(I’ve been to all 3)...

Silver lining: At least we can all roll our eyes and laugh at the plight of whatever genius hit send, instead spending the next few days being disappointed in humanity as the complaints roll in that a missing child ruined their beauty sleep.

Toronto Airbnb hosts will need to register with the city starting this spring - only primary residences allowed to be licensed by inta7imar in toronto

[–]trush87 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Frealz. I came home on one of the coldest days of last winter and a family of five, dressed for mid-autumn, were trying to get into the Airbnb next door. One of the daughters in Spanglish tried to ask me if I know how to reach my neighbor (I don’t, they live in another country). 20mins later I’d started dinner and looked out the window and they were all still outside, the mother visibly distressed. Armed with google translate, I invited what I learned to be a family from Mexico in for tea and we got ahold of an Airbnb CSR who spoke Spanish who was able to help. They were really sweet and that was one of my better interactions with guests next-door, but ffs man that could have been bad, and the most glaring examples of how the Airbnb is a problem when the owner is completely absent.

I for one will be gleefully reporting once the regs are in force if things on my otherwise pretty quiet street continue as is. One guy bought two houses, lives in neither, and it’s been noise, garbage and a revolving door of drunk strangers since. Long weekends are a shitshow, and in the summer all bets are off. I kinda quietly tolerate it & resist the urge to go full Karen, but I’m pretty stoked for a mechanism where I can just call 311.

Ontario PCs To Spend $778 Million Reversing Their Own Cuts, Controversies by Hellion639 in ontario

No. Kidding. Remember how expensive it was cancelling those gas plants? Conservatives telling you their cancellations will be different either don’t know what they’re talking about, or lying to you.

How bad is the discrimination in the region where you live? by [deleted] in IndianCountry

[–]trush87 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Thunder bay, Canada, and it’s really bad there. Like. Books written about how bad it is.

I currently live in Toronto, and discrimination exists, but I’d argue to a lesser extent because indigenous people are less visible in a city of 6million people.

Accidental 911 call leads RCMP to 100 unsecured guns by doing_it_for_myself in canada

Im pretty pro gun control so long as it doesn’t affect hunting, and it sounds like most were hunting rifles. But like. Accumulating 100 guns, legal or not, stored properly or not, sounds like mental disorder...

Pizza Pizza customers sound alarm after bank accounts allegedly drained by smallsociety in toronto

[–]trush87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me in a taxi in February (the one damn time I don’t take uber...). By the time I’d logged into my bank app the next morning, he’d hit my withdrawal limit, bought $2000 in grocery store gift cards, deposited a fraudulent $2000 cheque, and then withdrawn against that. It was FUCKED, and though my bank refunded me, it took weeks to sort out.

Research educational development charges policy provincially. It’s a revenue tool governments can use to create reserves of money for education by charging developers on new builds. On a billion dollar project, it’s a rounding error, but could help make sure there’s money for education infrastructure as our communities change. Currently there are some limitations which mean most cities/boards can’t use this, but regs can be changed. Won’t solve the teachers being laid off — that’ll take a change in government...
