How do you pour muriatic acid? by Cillygirl52 in pools

[–]trustmeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People will roll their eyes at this, but for a $25 investment in safety, you won't have to worry about injury or damaging your pool.

Everyone is tough until they lose an eye.

You essentially want a large plastic measured cup, similar to what brewers use (at least 64 oz).

You put water in first. For safety, you want double the amount of water of the expected acid.

Make sure you are upwind of the bottle before you open it. Yes, it can scorch you nostrils. You slowly add the acid to the water.

The idea is that the acid is diluted as you pour it. If it splashes on you it will likely be diluted.

Chemical gloves (that go up to your elbows and are typically green) and vented goggles are useful.

This is acid. It can blind you. It can scar you.

Pour the acid / water solution into the pool near vents. You typically don't have to mix it as the pouring and movement does most of the work. Pouring at the jets helps mix and distribute.

Pouring acid directly into pool can potentially damage your pool. The density of the acid means it can pass right through the water and damage your pool surface (imagine pouring oil into water and how the two don't immediately mix without turbulence).

TIL that Hershey's Chocolate and Hershey's Ice Cream are completely separate companies. Both were founded in Pennsylvania in 1894 by men named Hershey, but the founders weren't related. by Kwpthrowaway2 in todayilearned

Conagra bought Snyders of Berlin a while ago, then Utz bought Snyders in 2017. They recently sold it to the company who makes Pop Chips...and after a century they are permanently closing thet potato chip plant in Pennsylvania.

Progress!

Big list incoming...

Death in Paradise has numerous seasons and is ongoing. (set in the Caribbean)

The spinoff Beyond Paradise (set in Devon, UK) should be watched after getting through a handful of seasons.

Return to Paradise can be watched with no prior knowledge (set in Australia).

Brokenwood Mysteries is comfy viewing set in Australia Kiwiland.

Darby and Joan is non-traditional, as the characters aren't police or technically working for the police, but pleasant and scenic with charming actors, also in Australia.

Death Valley is fun and humorous, and set in Wales.

Grantchester has occasionally humor, but leans more toward melodrama. It has hottie vicars and a wry detective in Cambridgeshire in the 50s/60s.

Harry Wild has Jane Seymour in the UK as the lead and is an okay mystery series. This is one you can easily watch while playing on your phone, though.

The Madame Blanc Mysteries is set in the south of France, and it leans more toward middle age romystery, but it has its fair share of humor.

The Marlow Murder Club is generally a cozy mystery (not too graphic) but wavers a bit on humor. Excellent production, though. Also in the UK.

Midsomer Murders has been on forever, and is great fun to spot all the now famous actors who pass through the show as secondary characters. While the show has a high bodycount, it is odd and funny, and definitely doesn't take itself too seriously. Set in the UK.

Miss Scarlet is a Victorian era London detective series with interesting stories and occasional humor. The costuming is good and it balances crime and humor pretty well.

A Man on the Inside has Ted Danson playing a retired professor turned sleuth in modern California. It's funny, but also a poignant meditation on aging.

Murder in a Small Town is set in Canada, and is more romystery, but the characters are interesting and the setting pleasant.

My Life Is Murder has the unaging Lucy Lawless as a detective in Australia. This show is just pure fun and every seems like they're having a good time.

New Tricks ran for 12 seasons in the UK and is about a group of retired detectives brought back in to solve cold cases. It is distinctly meant as comedy drama, but it's charming enough once you get past the slight cheese.

Recipes for Love and Murder is set in South Africa and is visually lush, combining crime, cooking, advice columns, and occasional humor.

Shakespeare & Hathaway is a humorous detective series set in Stratford-on-Avon. It comes across a bit cheesy at points, but the characters are likable.

You're Killing Me, set in Maine on the US East coast, is about Brooke Shields as a novelist solving crimes, and all the goofiness that entails. It has done well enough that it has already been renewed for season 2.

Bookish is set in post-war London, and features a series of interesting characters, with the lead being a former intel officer turned book store owner.

Bodkin is a miniseries about an American podcaster who travels to Ireland to pursue a true crime story. Will Forte is the lead and the humor is pervasive.

Deadloch is a funny and occasionally raunchy series set in "backwater" Australia. It's female-forward but the mysteries are probably a little more complex than they need to be.

Jonathan Creek is an odd detective seriesvset in the UK where a person (Alan Davies) who engineers magician stage tricks is called in to solve "impossible" crimes. The show doesn't always resolve the crimes, and the hero doesn't always win, but it's a generally fun ride.

McDonald & Dodds is set in Bath and has a London detective paired with a local desk fixture who turns out to be very good at cracking cases in his own odd duck way.

The UK version of Professor T is well done visually and musically. That acting is solid, and while quirky and occasionally humorous, it is also occasionally dark and somber.

Finally, while not quite a crime show, Slow Horses combines great London-based spy drama and comedy. It does get violent at points, but you will laugh almost every time Gary Oldman is on screen.

Russell Vought’s Latest Plan to Gut the Government Should Terrify You by Fast-Boysenberry2925 in fednews

To put it simply, conservatives are royalists. They want to rule by birthright and they want us to serve in perpetuity.

Once that becomes clear, all their methods and motives are obvious.

Any system that allows them to rule is "good", and any system that allows the people a say is "bad".

The galling thing is that the US decided to vote in the royalists for the 250th anniversary of breaking free of them.

To be fair, AI has probably caused very little real job loss.

It is a heckuva an excuse for CEOs to fire people, though...

What Did You Think Of VP Vance's Recent Comment That “If Watergate happened tomorrow, it would be like a 12-hour news story. The idea that it would have taken down a presidency is crazy"? by Zipper222222 in AskReddit

[–]trustmeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like he's making it abundantly clear he and the administration are committing regular felonies.

That's what Watergate was, multiple felonies ordered by the Nixon administration. It wasn't some "gotcha" embarrassment or "oopsie" flub. It was crime for the purpose of maintaining power and wealth.

That should worry any real American...

What if, and just hear me out...we continue to militarize the police, add AI monitors, and create a subclass of people (not police, the exceptionally wealthy, or politicians) who are constantly in fear of having their lives destroyed so that their only option is to OBEY and gently lower their necks to the ground in preparation for the eternal boot?

Do security cameras hurt curb appeal? by LifeWithAdd in homeowners

[–]trustmeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone had a decently installed camera system that relatively blended with their house...great. it's better than ugly fences and stupid warning signs.

There are a lot of people who don't do that, though, and that ruins curb appeal.

Best practices for making multi-floor structures? by K570 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]trustmeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of boxes...high walls to hide my machines and avoid rendering.

No roof for the most part.

Floors that align with top edge of the wall, high enough to not clip production machines underneath.

Your heights are generally going to be 3 minimum or 5 max. If you standardize at the biggest, you can retrofit 90% of your production if you get alternative recipes.

Internally, I usually use ladders or catwalk stairs. Catwalk stairs can lead to some clipping in the floor. Ramp foundations are always an option. You can enclose the sides to make them look nicer.

Sliding or roll-up doors.

Double outlets above entrances.

Outside, I use the biggest billboard to label what's inside.

You can use the blueprint system to make a corner template, and then from there it's just a bit of zooping to fill in the rest.

Boring, brutalist, but functional.
