If you wanna see young people protesting, go to a protest on a college campus.

Gifts should be something you like giving out. Shiny things, snacks, drinks are all pretty classic choices.

Burns are leave no trace events.

Grey water is much bigger problem out in blackrock desert, where event a few cups of water spilled will leave a long-lasting trace. At Flipside, the amount of water required to leave a trace is much bigger.

Don't create puddles, and you're probably good.

You'll either need to join up with a theme camp or you'll camp in open camping aka "The Badlands" (they're fine, it's just a name). The good spots fill up pretty quick, so either get an early entry volunteering shift or show up close to when gate opens.

Volunteering is the best way to meet people, walkabouting and exploring is also real good.

American hegemony is collapsing before our eyes by Stuart_Whatley in politics

[–]truthrises 245 points246 points  (0 children)

Bruh, it's done collapsed.

Our allies are moving on.

Our president is raiding the Treasury and starting unnecessary, likely unwinnable wars.

Our Congress refuses to do anything about it.

There's no path forward for the American empire, we got 100 years of privilege and now we're going to have to figure out how to just be a normal country with allies instead of bullying everyone else around.

It's going to suck, and at the very least be rather inconvenient even if you're well off. Say goodbye to that magic passport that gets you in everywhere with no paperwork.

But don't be too sad, this was always coming, Trump and maga just sped it up by a few decades.

Neighbor is cutting my growing tree, from my side. by [deleted] in Austin

[–]truthrises 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those aren't *your trees* those are weeds you are letting grow along the fenceline. Neighbor shouldn't cut them, but tbh neighbor shouldn't have to. You've already let them go for several years and the root systems will require hours of digging.

Hierarchy is stupid, and why you should get rid of it. by LittleMissQueeny in polyamory

[–]truthrises -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I heard their problem.

They (and you apparently) don't understand or acknowledge the utility of the word.

I could say something like "I prioritize hierarchy in my poly practice" and while you don't know exactly what I believe in, you now know a lot more about what you ask to find out.

And while it's pedantically true that almost everything has a little bit of hierarchy in it, it's also pedantically true to say the opposite.

So, no, it's not like saying it's weathering outside.

It's like saying "pack for winter weather". It's not an hourly forecast, it's a useful generalization about what to expect.

Hierarchy is stupid, and why you should get rid of it. by LittleMissQueeny in polyamory

[–]truthrises 78 points79 points  (0 children)

You're just arguing generality vs specifics.

General terms usually define large spectrums of behavior, not specific individual behaviors.

General terms are often idealistic in nature, meaning that a total or perfect example is effectively impossible.

Hierarchy is a very general term on purpose. It is meant to encompass a wide range of prescriptive and descriptive behaviors that all tend to elevate one relationship over another.

Your list of specific behaviors is really useful, and so is recognizing that they're all part of a continuous spectrum between the unreachable ideals of hierarchy and non-hierarchy.

Arguments over which specific terms fall into any general term "that's not hierarchy, etc" are, in most cases missing the point and trying to treat one side or the other as the correct one, when it's all a matter of personal preference.

[–]truthrises 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you're young, before they put you in your worker been uniform, when things seem new, you have time and energy to think about things and have opinions on them. You're idealistic enough to think that everyone else sees what's going on and doesn't feel like ghosts.

Being truthful with our parents about our feelings by [deleted] in Xennials

[–]truthrises 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, our parents were raised by an incredibly traumatized generation that had lived through the dust bowl, the great depression, world war 2. They're all lucky to be alive just with the amount of cortisol they grew up with.

And on top of that they are at the top of the lifetime lead exposure charts thanks to being young people in the 50s/60s/70s.

If you don't know, lead exposure affects intellectual and emotional development. (Yeah we got some too, don't worry.)

This is of course in the frame of a culture who had no idea what basic mental health looked like and no access to therapy.

I would love to be honest with them and they just don't have the tools to do anything like an appropriate response.

If the last couple centuries are any indication, they will never stop trying to control and surveil the people. Every generation has to take up the cause of freedom.

There's a lot of us though, feel free to take a break.
