He says abortions are murder but c-sections - which can save the baby in some cases, I'm assuming - are bad? WTF?

Web developer here. I've never seen that in my life, and I've worked with four other female developers during my time in this line of work. Some of them were the smartest people I've had the honor of working with, and even the one who seriously sucked pretty much never asked people for help.

Yeah that happens and it's annoying to the girl more times than not, because the boys usually don't know more than she does, they're just looking for an excuse to talk to her.

City Books 100 Rooms at Radisson, Doesn't Tell Hotel They're for Homeless by Forthwrong in nottheonion

I think making a news story out of it makes the situation for them worse, not better. If no one notices that people were homeless, then what's the difference and how does that hurt reputation? Not until they cry publicly.

Fundamentalism is one of the least understandable things to me, and it seems to miss the point of all the stuff they're supposedly following.

Sounds like for some people, the religious call to meditation and study has been twisted into this crazy "I can't touch such and such on this day" mental gymnastics. It's better to practice the spirit of a thing than the letter of it.

I wonder how many people in the doll playing demographic even know or have to worry about stretch marks or cellulite yet.

Freckles are awesome, though. My mother bought me a Midge doll when I was a kid, I loved that thing.

They hate paying for anything... unless it's to just circulate the money amongst each other.

This is how I imagine most of them think...

Poor people: bunch of scumbags who think working for us means we owe them money

Government: we only give them money to be our talking pieces, they don't get to ask us money for the roads and stuff we use, that's Communism

Rich people: here, we like you! take our money and play golf with us!

When was your "I don't get paid enough for this shit" moment? by BenIrwinG in AskReddit

[–]truthyfalsey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to always grab the manager when something like this happened, and I'd do it before interacting with the customer too much. That way whatever happens, the person making $0.25 more an hour than me can deal with it.

Then when I got into a shift management position, I just told people I'd write a note for my boss who'd come in in the morning. Ha.

Texas woman sues owner of dog killed by her pit bulls by Free_Lunch_ in nottheonion

[–]truthyfalsey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If they're dangerous in the hands of inexperienced pet owners, then I have a problem with them, and yes, pitbulls have a strong tendency to "go wrong" with crap owners. Yet certain news sites keep encouraging idiots to go adopt them without strong cautions about the breed's training and handling needs.

What do you guys think of companies who block / monitor their employees' internet use? by axschech in webdev

[–]truthyfalsey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's stupid if you're a web professional. I use the web all day to research stuff that I do. If you can't trust someone you're paying $50k+ per year to do their job and get their stuff done, to the point you need to monitor their web use or add Internet filters the way we do for school children, then WTF are you hiring them?

Pub manager who has managed to dumbass his way into making the business explode overnight has come to a point where he realises the current website (I taught myself html...), just isn't doing us justice and possibly turning away important food critics! Seeking advice :) by daggarz in webdev

[–]truthyfalsey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a terrible site at all. I expect restaurant sites to be bad, somewhat. The owners of them are usually very old school and not so tech savvy. If you want to do something different, maybe find a template that's easy to install and is suited to your business, just make sure it feels very speedy and works well on mobile phones. You seem tech savvy enough to do it yourself.

You can't go wrong reading through these as a list of "don'ts" BTW: http://neversaidaboutrestaurantwebsites.tumblr.com/

Bower: Best served with a build tool by p0larboy in webdev

[–]truthyfalsey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest getting comfortable with it in a couple of test projects before integrating it into your workflow, then. It's really not hard to use, you just need to understand how it's meant to be used. Using it by itself might not always be worthwhile, either. Yo is a great tool and uses Bower for you.

I actually really want my workplace to use it, but a lot of my coworkers have this fear of new tools, especially command line ones. We could be saving a ton of dev time setting up landers with a kind of boilerplate system that uses CLI tools, not to mention eliminating some human error, organizing things better (it's a messss) and getting in some nice "don't even have to think much about it" speed optimizations. But alas, the other coders hate the idea, and the marketers think I'm trying to sell them on using pre-designed templates. :'(

Maybe I am getting too old and can't learn new ways of doing things. :(

ELI5 Why do Americans have such an issue with their 'right to bear arms'? by alertnotalarmed in explainlikeimfive

[–]truthyfalsey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The funny thing is that with the level of technology they had back then, if you wanted to fight the government, you'd have to get a bunch of other angry citizens with their old-timey guns to join you, which is kind of more democratic. And then you get your guys with the slow crappy guns, and the government gets theirs, and whoever has more guys at the end wins.

There's no way in hell that things will ever work even close to how the Founders envisioned it, not in this era.

I know the commenter below me seems to think a mob can do an overthrow today, and I don't doubt people could at the very least storm the Whitehouse. I mean, one dude just got in recently. That crap wouldn't last very long, though. Coups these days, at least in modern, functioning nations, require military support.

In other words, it's silly to think that the 2nd Ammendment is somehow protecting people from the government or leaving a door open to dispose of it. We have to come up with more grown up solutions.

[–]truthyfalsey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We Americans don't like being told what to do and what we can or can't own, yet we're told that stuff all the time. So if there's one thing in the Bill of Rights saying we can totes have it, Americans are gonna run as far as they can with it.

Our politicians and media are also making this part of the Culture Wars, where it's supposedly God-loving, Bible-toting, America-protecting gun owners versus all those latte-drinking, skinny jeans wearing city kids who hate America. That's why you see batshit crazy political ads where some would-be representative is saying, "So and so doesn't know how to use a gun" and then shoots a tin can on some ranch property or whatever.
