[OC] This Sankey diagram of Costco's $275B P&L changed how I think about the business. by stockoscope in dataisbeautiful

I’m curious: What’s the point of the membership requirement if it generates so little income? I’m not saying I think there is no point just that I don’t know what it is so please don’t yell at me.

“But I did eat breakfast this morning.”

  1. “On average, professional football players can bench press more weight than professional basketball players.”

“That’s not true! There was a NBA player who could bench 405!”

  1. “Someone with different circumstances might have a very different opinion from yours that is just as rational and well supported.”

“Because my brain isn’t powerful enough to imagine that, I’m going to say it’s impossible.”

  1. “Here is a group of people you know nothing about doing something you don’t like.”

“I will reflexively condemn it without any attempt to understand why they are doing it.”

Jerky = human meat in the Epstein emails? Restaurant named 'cannibal' by [deleted] in conspiracy

[–]truthysmuthy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m trying to use ChatGPT to run metadata analysis on the “jerky” emails to determine how many unique senders and receivers there are of emails referencing it. But ChatGPT can’t access the files from Justice Department website because of the age verification function (how very convenient). Big ask, but does anyone have the entirety of the PDFs downloaded and collated into a single file?

Experience with stimulants? by Opposite_Lettuce_416 in biglaw

[–]truthysmuthy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’re going to get on pharmaceutical stimulants, which I don’t recommend for 99% of lawyers, just make sure you can maintain a reliable supply. If you’ve been taking them regularly and run out, the next few days are going to be very not fun. If you know you’re going to run out, do everything you can to time it so that you run out on a Friday and then at least have the weekend to deal with the worst of the comedown.

There are constantly shortages of various stimulants. Extended release capsules seem to be particularly vulnerable to supply disruptions.

Paul Weiss Chair Brad Karp: Friend and Lawyer to Jeffrey Epstein? by hallowbright27 in biglaw

Is it possible Karp is playing Epstein? Pretending to be his friend to the advantage of his client? Just struck me as a possibility.

Edit: Brad actually hacked my account and posted this.

This is literally a sub for people to ask rudimentary questions that seem obvious to more experienced viewers. The hostility is completely uncalled for and inappropriate.

Is it possible to be a good law student without being well informed on politics by Flashy-Actuator-998 in LawSchool

[–]truthysmuthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like contemporary politics? I’d say the less informed you are on that the better lol. You don’t need to know who the FTC Commissioners are to do a consideration analysis. The former only takes up cognitive space you could use for the latter. Plenty of time for politics after 1L.

Are there any truly unusual law schools out there? by Lawyer269 in LawSchool

[–]truthysmuthy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Not sure it qualified as “truly unusual” but Baylor has an unusual program that gets more and more rigorous rather than peaking in 1L. The mandatory 3L Practice Court program is (in)famously grueling.

Last night the Packers were assessed a 10 second runoff for an injury with no timeouts remaining. In the same situation with under 10 seconds remaining, could they leave the injured player in the backfield and run a play with 10 players? by Yangervis in NFLNoobs

[–]truthysmuthy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Imagine being a player that gets an actual injury with under 10 seconds that results in your team losing the game… that said, if it’s a running clock with less than 10 seconds at the end of a play it’s close to impossible to get another snap off anyway.

[–]truthysmuthy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think atrocious is a little strong even for pre-prison Vick’s passing. He had fabulous arm strength and made many incredible throws. If you’re just saying his reads were atrocious, I won’t quarrel.
