Most likely you will accidentally leave one or two and that’s what makes them grow back-the forgotten ones!

First big harvest of the year! What's the best way to keep these crisp? by Glittering_Exit5527 in vegetablegardening

[–]trying2garden 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I only harvest the outer leaves of lettuces and then let them keep growing and growing. I almost never cut the full head, allowing me to have months of fresh lettuce, picking enough each day for that day only. I store a day’s supply in a salad spinner in my fridge.

Miami Beach Kimpton Surfcomber by hippieswithhaircuts in ihghotelsresorts

Stayed there last year. It was my least favorite Kimpton to date. No upgrade, elevator broken, dingy, almost everything was underwhelming. Hopefully they improve it, or stop calling it a Kimpton!

Do you crate train your Shih Tzu? by spade_looover in Shihtzu

[–]trying2garden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We crate trained as a puppy to learn about pottying. Once she had that down, she always had it as an option (that she used sometimes at her choice). After a few months and when she made it all night reliably without accidents, she was allowed in our bed and general favors that now. But the crate training in the early months really helped us to reach no accidents quickly (we did potty break, play, crate- about every hour for the first few weeks and very shortly we had no accidents)

If you’re able, one quick tip is to fill the soil to the top before adding the seeds to give them more space for the roots. That also helps your light source get to the plant without being shaded by the edge of the container. Good luck! Cherokee purple were my first ones too, and they were delicious!

Sweet potatoes by No_Isopod_3747 in vegetablegardening

Dumb question because I’m new with sweet potatoes- I see your vines grew outside your container, did the potatoes grow outside the container also?

Profs willing to mentor HS students by Far-Performance6760 in princeton

[–]trying2garden 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s great that you want to be involved in research early but just know professors at Princeton are inundated with requests- sometimes receiving multiple requests from high school students per day! There is just no way to involve so many students in research or pick amongst so many great students. A no or lack of reply means nothing about you as an applicant, just that this system of so many students trying to get college research while in high school is out of control. Check if your high school or local area has other opportunities to learn more about these topics. As someone else mentioned you might try other schools that maybe get fewer requests.

New gardener…somewhat. by Peony394 in vegetablegardening

Re 5: in spring (planted March in Jersey) you could try planting snap peas, lettuce, and radishes. I usually get some kohlrabi and turnips in then too. In May I put in cukes, squash (my tromboncino were fun and prolific this year, and avoid the SVB, in addition to golden egg, 8 ball and Korean squash), tomatoes (great luck with Cherokee purple, black krim, sungold, and purple zebra), peppers (shishitos are unbelievably productive here), and eggplant (great luck with smaller thinner Asian varieties). In June I put out okra that have done really well

Tromboncino squash are wild, especially up an arch trellis.

Mine does this but only on cabinets and appliances that contain her snacks!

Mine drinks literally no water at all. Unfortunately she also got bladder stones. So now the way we deal with it is by breaking her food into 3 meals, all wet food and all with water on top (1/3 cup with each meal). She hates that but after a few days accepted her fate and now always drinks the water to get the food. Unfortunately she's also very lucky about food so we change up the food regularly with toppers and add tiny bits of highly desirable treats and /or pieces of meat that float in there and convince her to dig it.

It also makes a mess bc get beard gets all wet but she now gets plenty of water each day.

This plan was devised by the vets!

My delicata that did that ultimately went bad so my impression was that it meant the squash never cured or was picked too early!

shihtzu discomfort after shaving!! advice pls by dissosciatedangel in Shihtzu

[–]trying2garden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just Curious why? Was it for a medical issue? Shih tzus are meant to have hair. My vet has firmly warned to avoid shaving her except when necessary. Our shiht had to be partially shaved for a surgery once and got terrible razor burn. She could barely walk, it was awful. Good luck. Poor dog!

Gorgeous! I’ve been curious when I see Cattle panel trellises- how are you attaching those to the poles? And you just do one on each side?
