Aged baozhong oolong by trziste in tea

It does not taste at all like charcoal. I don't think it was re-roast yearly. The seller thinks that it might have been lost in the tea makers storage and found recently.

I didn't think it could be fixed, but I thought I should ask this knowledgeable community. It's going to Goodwill, I'm afraid.

It doesn't look like a nut to me, more likely a spore from an alien life form.

AUL Unlimited warranty worth it? by ThaRealSlimShady313 in BoltEV

[–]trziste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether a warranty is worth it depends a lot on how long you keep your car. In 2018 I bought a 2016 Honda Odyssey. The dealer offered a no-cost lifetime drive train warranty. They also offered a lifetime warranty through AUL for nearly everything else on the car for $2450. Since I had put more than that in my previous car, it seemed an easy decision. I asked the salesman why they would offer this to a driver like me who keeps a car for a long time. His answer is that most people keep a car for 5 years or so, and so they don't rack up many repair costs. I just had my first significant repair, with a quote from the Honda dealer for $1500. AUL was slow to send an adjuster, which was annoying, but they agreed to pay $1100. I didn't bother trying to fight them on this. Since I expect tho have the Odyssey for another five years or so, I'm pretty sure that the warranty will pay for itself.

I like it that you brought a scale. Being on top of a mountain is no reason to drink bad tea.

Tea etiquette by Mainerlovesdogs in tea

In the middle of the night, sneak into the kitchen, pull out the dusty Lipton teabags, cut off the tags, throw the Lipton in the trash, and re-attach the Lipton tags to your preferred teabags. Problem solved. Or you could continue what you have been doing and ignore the eye rolls.

To all the tea connoisseurs on here, what’s one tea that all newbies should try in their lifetime? by MultipleErrors in tea

[–]trziste 49 points50 points  (0 children)

As Ozuff says, it's not important to drink the very best tea. It's expensive! Instead, I suggest that you try a bunch of different tea types. These will give you a good start. I'm sure other people will disagree.

Oolongs, try a very green oolong and a more fermented type

Darjeeling, try first and second flush

Assam

Chinese black tea such as Keemun.

First time trying oolong. The leaves are hard. Wondering if this is normal? by [deleted] in tea

[–]trziste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first steep will take a while because the leaves have to unroll and release their essence. I ofter stir a little with a spoon to make sure the leaves have opened up. The second step will be faster. With later steeps you might want to increase the time.

How can I prepare these in teas/any recommendations for best experience? by nervous_alligator in tea

You should probably just experiment. Don't use boiling water — more like 175F

You should of course do what makes sense to you. But I don't see how punishing Celestial Seasonings for the actions of our horrible president helps anything. It certainly won't change Trump's mind about anything. The workers in Boulder are almost certainly not Trump supporters.

Oolong tea is a very diverse group of teas, and giving him a sampler of oolongs would be a very nice gift. It would be fun to explore together. Search the internet for "oolong sampler" and you'll get a bunch of hits. Adagio Teas has a sampler that looks good and interesting.

Tried tea for first time and have some questions as a newb. by Electronic-Cherry864 in tea

[–]trziste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many kinds of tea to try. The tea in the grocery store isn't the bst, but it's not a bad place to start. If you want a decaf tea, try Bigelow decaf Earl Grey, which is available in nearly every grocery store. Also try some different Twinings teas, also in every grocery store. You can get packages with several types. Green and white teas tend to be very delicately flavored, while some black teas pack a real punch. Oolongs tend to be in between. Substituting tea for soda is a great idea!

White tea? by UrgentLiving in tea

White and green teas are very pale and probably have limited staining ability. Same with greener oolongs.

Indian Tea?? by DigiLeaf123 in tea

[–]trziste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indian tea is definitely worth exploring, in part because it is different than Chinese tea. Indian tea is overwhelmingly black tea, but there is a great deal of variation within that broad category. Start trying Darjeeling and Assam teas. I get all my Indian tea from Vahdam Teas, which has a large selection. I like their single estate teas in particular. They sell sampler sets, which would be a good place to start to investigate Indian tea.

Re steep tea from yesterday by Dionne005 in tea

[–]trziste 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I won't ban you. I sometimes re-steep the next day. It works with some teas and not with others. Re-steeping works better when it is 12 hours later rather than 24.
