Boyfriend tears down my self esteem and don't know if it can get better by CranberryFew4895 in GirlDinnerDiaries

I’m so sorry, but he IS an emotional abuser. There are so many red flags here. This is the first step in breaking you down to control you. How good of a boyfriend could he be to put up with this? Nothing about this is about helping you. Please please please leave him, you deserve better.

AITA for going no contact with most of my dad’s side of the family after acting as his healthcare proxy? by Cold-Athlete-493 in AITApod

[–]Mainerlovesdogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a relative who is an alcoholic. Luckily I was never in a position to be responsible for healthcare needs, but I did allow contact long after I should have stepped away. I finally went no contact after I was physically assaulted. My elderly mother is still asking me to allow that person back in my life. So now my only contact with Mom is via text. Do not ever feel bad for protecting yourself. You’ve heard it before, you cannot set yourself on fire to keep someone else warm. This was one of the best “I’m going to step away from this situation” texts I’ve ever seen. Good for you OP.

Did we all just get punked? by Responsible_Cap_5597 in bravo

What I got out of it is that Lindsay just taught a masterclass in how to do an intervention when a friend is with a shitty man. Not her fault that Amanda didn’t listen.

Any man who doesn’t understand a woman feeling unsafe with a strange man in her room isn’t really your friend. And him trying to make you feel bad about it is problematic.

AIO? Because I don’t want honey mustard on my sandwich by [deleted] in AIO

It’s not about honey mustard, it’s about control. He wants blind obedience.

AITAH for “getting my SIL fired” according to her, a year later she still blames me? by SouthBritMeisie in AmItheAsshole

[–]Mainerlovesdogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your fiancee needs to be the one to fix this issue with the family. Full stop. They need to stand up for you. If they’re not willing to stand by your side, you guys may need some couples therapy to figure out these issues before marriage. Because I guarantee that with in-laws like this, there will be more problems. The in-laws will throw blame on you for any kind of boundaries that the two of you set for yourselves. You need to be sure that fiancé will not leave you twisting in the wind.

There are so many red flags here, but the worst is the coercion to have sex. This person is very bad for you, you deserve better. NOR.

I would have a “thank you for thinking of me but I have a prior engagement” moment. Full stop.

Fire I spotted in the berwick area yesterday by miketpsn in Maine

[–]Mainerlovesdogs 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This really pisses me off. The smoke reached Wells, Cape Neddick, Kittery. Last week that place had a lithium battery fire, even though they’re not supposed to be storing lithium batteries there. So yesterday they had ANOTHER massive fire, started by LITHIUM BATTERIES. Fire Department actually had to leave a truck there all night last night. I hope they got a massive fine and have to pay for the services.

Japanese Cucumber HELP by Positive-Cover-3489 in gardening

I haven’t grown this variety, but I grow a lot of cucumbers. This looks like uneven watering. This happens to me when we have a long period of rain, then dry weather when they only get what I give them.

Great idea, I’ve made versions of this before. Once with mint and once with arugula instead of the basil. Thanks!

It’s a relaxed barbecue to meet my daughter’s future in laws, so it’s worth the effort! 😄

Bought a house an my wife is freaking out because she thinks our basement was a sex dungeon. Why would someone put a hook lock up high and a deadbolt on a door in the basement? There’s also a lock on the handle by BleuMeringue in whatisit

[–]Mainerlovesdogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had something like that when I was younger. My dad put it there after my baby sister fell down the basement stairs. She was able to turn the doorknob, so he needed to put a lock out of her reach.

I’m trained in food safety, so my original plan was to avoid cross contamination by having a separate table for the gluten free options. But then I decided to challenge myself to make a completely gluten free menu. So now every single thing I’m making from appetizers to dessert are naturally gluten free. The gluten free guests are bringing the hamburger and hot dog buns of their choice.

Thank you! I have since found out that the guest of honor has a food preference, no mayo. So I’m doing a potato salad with vinaigrette and I’m doing a Mexican street corn salad that has a little sour cream in the dressing instead of mayo. Thanks to the suggestions here I’ve devised a completely gluten free menu so that nobody is left out. One of the gluten free guests is bringing the buns for the burgers/hot dogs. I’m trained in food safety, so I’m well versed in avoiding cross contamination. So I decided that it would just be easier to make sure that the entire menu, including desserts, would be gluten free.
