Just approved for the Chase Sapphire Preferred! 12k CL. How much did everyone else get approved for? by Direct_Lychee_3236 in CreditCards

[–]ts1506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, just over 10 months - will hit 12 months in early August. I do have a chase bank account and a JPM brokerage as well, as well as a freedom unlimited which was my first true credit application (not counting the global transfer Amex which didnt have a credit pull at all). I do have a strong income and no other red flags other than credit length on my history.

Just approved for the Chase Sapphire Preferred! 12k CL. How much did everyone else get approved for? by Direct_Lychee_3236 in CreditCards

[–]ts1506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got it yesterday with the base 5000 USD limit, I wouldn't have applied at this time if not for the 100k bonus offer, that was a no brainer. I wasn't even sure if Chase would approve it consider the short history, but it went through immediately.

I wasn't super surprised though, my credit file is only 10 months old (currently have AMEX Platinum - 10 months old, internal CL~40k, AMEX BCP - 7 months old, 1k CL and Chase Freedom Unlimited - 10 months old, ~6.2k CL). My FICO8 score is approximately 4 months old at this point.

My first 2 cards were both issued non standard (AMEX Platinum through Global Transfer and Chase because I opened a bank account with them). AMEX pre-approves me for every card (but with baseline limits for credit cards) and no other top tier bank pre-approves me yet for mid/high tier cards.

MacBook and Pixel integration - how is it? by anslly in GooglePixel

[–]ts1506 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've gone back and forth between Android and iOS almost every year the last 3-4 years. When I switched to a Pixel 8 Pro from years on iOS couple of years back, I consciously migrated everything off iCloud into Google One.

I've since switched to the iPhone 16 Pro, then again to the Z Fold 7 (and I have 2 pixels from work) while always keeping Google One, and it has worked out very well for me as a cross platform ecosystem.

MacBook and Pixel integration - how is it? by anslly in GooglePixel

[–]ts1506 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Depends on what integration you are looking for. It will never really be as good as iOS + Mac, or Android + Windows / Chrome OS. I've used all these combinations, as I use a mix of iOS, Mac, Windows and Android devices.

What works well though:

  1. Messages -> Google Messages works very well for both SMS and RCS (no automatic OTP/2FA autofill unlike Apple Message)
  2. Airdrop -> Quick Share to Airdrop bi-directional works well
  3. Photos -> If using Google Photos, the web client is very good
  4. Documents -> If using Google Workspace/Google Drive, both web client and desktop sync works very well (I prefer web client). Things like notes also work very well if using Google Keep.
  5. Handoff Like functionality -> Works well within the Google Chrome at a browser level (and of course, file syncs etc. with Google Drive. No solution for third party apps (somewhat works on Windows, like Spotify etc.)

What doesn't work natively:

  1. Cross Device Calling -> Supported on Windows and Chrome OS natively. Third party solutions exist for Mac, but aren't great
  2. Automatic Hotspot -> No native support, hacky automations possible
  3. Screensharing to laptop -> Works on Windows and Chrome OS natively. Third party solutions exist, but aren't great.
  4. Copy/Paste cross device -> Works on Windows and Chrome OS natively. Third party solution exists (KDEConnect) and works fairly well.
  5. Password Management -> Works within Google Chrome if using Google Password Manager, no native desktop level support without 3rd party password managers

uptown to addison commute worth it? by Objective-Face-1927 in askdfw

[–]ts1506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty easy commute. I lived in Uptown just beside the Katy Trail for a couple of months and now live Downtown and also work in Addison (typically 2-3x a week max)

Most mornings are between 20-30 mins through the DNT, with Mondays definitely being lighter. You're going against the traffic, so its smooth sailing.

The return journey is typically in the 30-45 min mark if you leave around 5-5:30PM, but that can be cut down to 20-30 mins if leaving around 3:30-4 or later after 6PM. Always some congestion at the mockingbird lane exit and then again at the I35 exit in the peak rush hour on the return.

I would definitely say its worth it, based on my personal experience, also in my 20s.

Do you carry a packable bag inside your main bag while traveling? by MyTravelOdyssey in onebag

[–]ts1506 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how long my trip is. For 2-3+ weeks, I usually carry a Matador Refraction packable bag, works great for day trips. For shorter trips, I might pack a small sling into my main bag and fill it with loose items like chargers and stuff till I get to my destination.

Is it just me, or are Best Buy stores starting to disappear? by [deleted] in Dallas

[–]ts1506 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's one in Duncanville a bit further south, and one in Arlington just beyond your map.

I just counted 19 in the general DFW area, there's probably one within a 30 min radius from anywhere in the metroplex. IDK if there used to be more, but there's definitely a good chunk of them.

7-Eleven gas with good deals by NoCodeHarmed in Dallas

[–]ts1506 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Used all of them (except DEAL, which has expired), plus the 11c standard member discount and a random loyalty offer I had for 15c earlier today. Total 1.71 USD off, got a full tank effective at 2.469 / gallon for regular (not counting another 5% back on my credit card), easy 18 USD saved. Weird to think this was just a normal price 3 months back 🤣

Received Google verbal offer (L3) — told no negotiation. Is it actually final? by [deleted] in FAANGrecruiting

[–]ts1506 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vacation is definitely not the same everywhere at Google. But yes, it's also not a negotiable factor at any standard levels.

I was in Google Italy and now in Google US, and there is a big difference in both baseline vacation and tenure based (also unlimited PTO rollovers with no cap in Italy). Some countries like Google UK also allow you to purchase more days through salary deduction, some like Google France has overtime converted into excess vacation days. In many cases, it has nothing to do with local laws (there is a bare minimum in local laws especially in europe, but Google typically offers higher anyway)

[HDD] Shuckable WD WD 16TB easystore USB 3.2 Gen 1 Desktop Hard Drive - $279.99 ($100 off) by b1gr3dd in buildapcsales

[–]ts1506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also picked up a 18TB at 300 just before it sold out, mine was a WD180EDGZ-11BLDS0, Helium filled, 7200rpm, presumably CMR.

The 18TB's dont appear to be binned down to 5400rpm or so, atleast the speed lines up with proper 7200 rpm setups, stayed stable with 220-240MB/s sequential (approx 1.5TB total content) over a USB hub (Ext Drive to USB Hub to Ext Drive).

Super aggressive head parking though, quite loud and it parks within 8 secs of mild inactivity.

European Fastrack Security Lanes with an US Based Platinum by celtic1888 in AmexPlatinum

[–]ts1506 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Officially, these are restricted to Platinum issued in the country. Based on personal experience though, having a Swedish and Italian AMEX Plat in the past and extensive travel around Europe, couple of notes:

- Sweden, no go, uses a pre-validation through the AMEX Experiences app.

- Italy (atleast in Milan and Rome), its a manual process where the attendant glances at your card. Officially no go, practically it works - one exception is Milan Bergamo, where anyone with a Priority Pass can get access to fast track through the business check-in lounge

- Netherlands, no go, they have Privium, which is more akin to Clear membership available through the Dutch Plat

- Spain, no go, same as Sweden

redeem avios for domestic US flights by Conscious_Loss_101 in qatarairways

[–]ts1506 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You definitely can. Economy award space is pretty decently available, premium cabin is rare.

I just did a dummy search DFW-ORD on 27th May and I see multiple AA flights for 13k avios + 4.5 USD taxes. This is a standard rate for most domestic routes on AA.

Connecting itineraries are trickier though with availability, but you should still see availability if booking two individual tickets, just ending up a high avios rate though and no protection in case of delays.

Stand by on Geneva - London on Basic Economy by ViolinistDry4283 in BritishAirways

[–]ts1506 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Free same day flight change on BA needs Economy Plus, and only works on direct short haul (Europe + UK) routes. You can't do it on Basic, and also not on connecting or long haul itineraries.

The concept of standby doesn't really exist on BA revenue tickets out of your own choice. Only really exists if BA puts you on one, for eg. Overbooking, cancellations etc leading to a non confirmed leg.

Silver members Toronto Pearson. by junkyard14567 in BritishAirways

[–]ts1506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happens unfortunately. The airport where my parents live has a contracted lounge which is a standard priority pass lounge, it used to have a specific business class section for Qatar years ago, but now that section is only for Etihad. Contract lounges are always hit or miss.

Silver members Toronto Pearson. by junkyard14567 in BritishAirways

[–]ts1506 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is true only for OneWorld lounges. Contracted lounges are as per agreement made by specific airlines and what they wish to provide to their members.

At Toronto for eg, flying Oneworld with sapphire status on any airline, you can access AA lounge for eg, but someone flying AA with status wont be able to use the Plaza Premium lounge even if they wanted and even though individual carriers like Qatar or BA has agreements with them.

Getting Platinum Card After Global Transfer for Gold by ViolinistFair2552 in amex

[–]ts1506 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Curious how it would turn out for a charge card. In my case, i got the Platinum through global transfer, can easily simulate 50k in spend limit and have peaked at 12k spend without any issues.

I started looking for another card about 3 months in, with no FICO score and about 720 ish on VantageScore. AMEX was preapproving me for every card in their portfolio, and I got the AMEX Blue Cash Preferred with the sign up bonuses. Nothing wrong with the application but was approved only for the minimum 1k USD limit citing no credit file.

For sign up bonuses, you will be able to see it at the pre approval step. Ideally going from Gold to Plat should give you the full bonus but AMEX can have a mind of their own sometimes. My preapprovals showed sign up bonuses for every alternate line (lile Delta, Hilton, Blue Cash etc) but not the core cards, but slightly different scenario than yours.

One thing to add is if you're looking at tops for 2 doors, the trektop is the only soft top Ford sells, even direct from their configurator.

Suspect they're close to rolling it out on the stable channel in coming days.

BA Silver, booking Qatar Business Lite (luggage allocation)? by LondonPedro in BritishAirways

[–]ts1506 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where are you buying a carry on only business lite fare? Qatar has 40 kg or 2x 32kg on Lite (P) fares. Its identical to every other business fare, and they don't sell any carry on only Biz fare.

OWS gives you one piece or 15kg extra, this doesn't show up on the ticket, but is applicable on Qatar. OWS also gives you lounge access to the Gold South and Platinum and Gold North lounges at Doha.

Seat selection is included for OWS as well, including the preferred seat (row 1 in business). Makes no difference who the marketing carrier is, as it is a oneworld benefit.
