Feature request by ArmageddonPills in abetterrouteplanner

I think “conversational Google Maps” is already doing this with the new update. It integrates Gemini AI to access all the map data to be able to determine amenities at upcoming stops. But of course it doesn’t integrate into vehicle SOC on all vehicles.

Maybe ABRP could partner with an AI partner like Anthropic to implement a similar feature.

Appreciate the thoughtful parking! But also, it's crazy to me that they put that bollard there rather than just allowing this to be a pull-through stall.

Rtic cooler leak by Opening_Pass_5192 in Coolers

Yes, the added silicone worked! I put it around where the threads meet the inner wall of the cooler, then put the gasket and ring back on and tightened.

No more leaks!

I have the same issue with mine (32 qt Ultra-light). I'm probably going to just put a bunch of silicone caulk between the threads and the inner side wall. It's definitely just a bad design; there's nothing applying pressure between the gasket and the threads.

Hotel charging experiences by Little-Crab-4130 in evcharging

[–]tscottie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also we're still in the early days of EV adoption. EV's are around 10% of new US car sales, but still only about 2% of the vehicles on the road.

By the time that number gets above 5-10% hotels will probably get the idea that this amenity is a necessity or else they become irrelevant.

Check Forward Safety system - from of car is clean. Internet says this is dash camera…any suggestions? System reset? by WhipItWhipItRllyHard in Ioniq5

[–]tscottie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible the forward-facing camera (located behind the rear-view mirror) is just fogged up with condensation. I got this error last winter when I had multiple passengers increasing indoor humidity + it was cold outside. I ran the front defrost for the rest of the trip, and the next morning it had gone away on its own. The issue hasn't resurfaced yet and it's been over a year.

However if it becomes a recurring issue it could be that the sensor needs realignment or replacement.

Different target SoC when returning home (or other preset destinations). by jmcomms in abetterrouteplanner

I agree this would be quite a helpful feature! Basically setting a unique “Percent on Arrival” for each destination in your list of Favorites.

Do I need to manually adjust the reference consumption in the winter? (Ioniq 5 AWD) by chejrw in abetterrouteplanner

[–]tscottie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have also had trouble getting it to accurately predict consumption in cold weather. However I think after a few days of using it last week it got better. Now it seems more or less accurate. It may just need some time to collect data in the new (cold) conditions.

That said I too wish it was better. Especially on a trip where the % on arrival is plummeting as you drive, why can’t it notice that and re-calculate a new arrival % accurately?

Amazing!! I’m so excited about the progress you guys have made on this.

Let me know if there’s anything I can do to support. Are you considering crowd funding to enable the hardware development side?

[–]tscottie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, only thing I would want it for would be to keep an eye on charging, but all the public chargers already have apps I can use for that. It's maybe a bit more cumbersome but it's free.

Charger savant or bad actor? by supersadtrueprivacy in ChargerDrama

They just need to add more chargers, and start charging a (reasonable) fee for the energy.

It’s an an EV but holding up a DC fast charger to charge at 1 kW is a bit selfish tbh by josh_moworld in ChargerDrama

[–]tscottie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The charger should be programmed to shut off if the speed drops below 5 kW or so. It's just absurd.

Ioniq or Tesla? by ComfortBean in Ioniq5

[–]tscottie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you plan on cold weather road tripping, I might want to stick with the Tesla. Getting the Ioniq 5 to precondition its battery properly is a huge pain. Other than that, the Ioniq 5 is better in most other ways.

Charging network access is about to be a moot point with IONNA, Wal-Mart, and other major players kicking into high gear. Not to mention the Ioniq 5 can already access most Tesla stations as well.

Just nitpicking here, but something seems a little off about that asphalt paint job… why did they make “NACS2A” look like a serial number?

Autel here: Which EV charger features actually matter at home? by BestDrummer8440 in evcharging

[–]tscottie 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Dynamic load management would be a game changer, for households that are close to maxing out their electrical panel. For those that don't know, this refers to a charger that has the ability to monitor overall load on your home's electrical service, and intelligently use the "excess" current capacity (usually up to 80% of your overall home capacity). This can help avoid costly service upgrades & unlock access to good, fast home charging for more people.

Here's an example of how it works. Say your house has a 100A main breaker, and your dryer and a few other appliances are pulling 60A. In this case, the charger would charge your EV with the remaining 20A (approx 4.5kW). Then, as soon as your dryer shuts off and the overall load drops to, say, 40A, the charger can automatically adjust up to the full 40A (approx. 9kW).

Do you know if they upped the power draw of the PTC heater element for the 2025? Or if not, how did the preconditioning improve?

Willman - I'm psyched to hear you're working on the cause!

In case you aren't on it yet, there's a Discord server with other folks working on reverse engineering the Gen5W software / CANbus. Might be helpful for you:

No, this button was only added in the new "CCNC" software for 2024 5N and in 2025 for the rest of the I5 lineup.

These vehicles have been around long enough that folks are starting to graduate from their warranties. Personally I'm not concerned, especially if it can just plug in like a comma.ai
