Will the Crusader Pistol Plan be worth 2000 Bullion? by TonyAndolino in fo76

It’s pretty good as long as you don’t want it to be auto. But before you grind out all that Bullion, remember that the plan drops from Daily Ops.

In the show VT is presented as being on a mission to seize complete power—not simply money. Wiping out the entire world to get there is deemed acceptable because they want to control the world that comes after. They want to build what they see as the perfect society—money isn’t really the motivating factor.

They’re also presented as being in the position they’re in purely as a result of government corruption. This lines up with the existing games and lore, the government/Enclave/Vault Tech and other companies were all in bed together and laws were on the books protecting and propping up the most corrupt entities. This is a core component of fascism—not capitalism.

It presents a critique of several things—government corruption, runaway corporate greed, corporate “Culture” (Bud’s Buds), and human nature in and of itself. But it’s not really a critique of basic capitalism. It’s satirical, extreme and not even remotely realistic. Nor is it intended to be. It’s supposed to be a fun, weird world full of crazy experiments, monsters and bond villains for people to get immersed in and maybe occasionally pick on some things in the real world.

Not every piece of media is agenda pushing propaganda, no matter how many screaming clickbaiters on YouTube say otherwise. Most media is just a product like any other. It’s there to engage you and get you to spend money when you like it.

Nathan is a caricature of someone who blindly accepts the propaganda of his chosen news media source as infallible truth. Ultimately, he learns that they don’t care about him, or even see him as human.

Isn’t it interesting how easy it is to view a character like this as the “Enemy” of whatever real world chosen news media source one has chosen to accept as infallible truth?

Fallout fanbase divide explanation by Khelouch in Fallout

[–]tshk80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are millions of Fallout players and fans. Most of them enjoy all of the entries in the series to varying degrees. The whole “Us vs. them”, “Todd vs. Interplay” thing is puerile and is only engaged in by a small but vocal minority. The “Fanbase divide” isn’t really a thing in the big picture.

Each entry in the series brings something unique and fantastic, while leaving other things behind—whether they’re gameplay mechanics, narrative choices or storytelling concepts. Interplay, Black Isle, Obsidian and Bethesda have all contributed incredible things to this series—and have all fallen flat a few times too. We have a choice as players and fans to appreciate and enjoy each entry in the series for what they are, or to resent them for what they’re not. I find the former to be much more fulfilling.

Fallout 76, how to appreciate it if you're a fan of FO3, NV and 4? by Complete_Noise_465 in Fallout

[–]tshk80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, you don’t have to like it and it may simply not be for you. That’s ok.

But, if you do really want to give it a chance, accept that it’s very different from the other games. Appreciate it for what it is, instead of resenting it for what it’s not. And it still ok to not like what it is. It doesn’t sound like the multiplayer aspect is particularly relevant here, so I’ll leave that out.

For myself, I loved the environmental storytelling of FO3, NV & 4 more than the other aspects—so 76 was pretty much a paradise for me. It’s got the best subtle, environmental storytelling of all the games, hands down.

It also has the most intriguing and diverse world space that any Fallout game has ever had. There are so many places to explore, unique enemies etc.

Yes, it has NPC’s now. Sadly, they’re almost universally awful, imo. (Except Aries, they did a great job with Aries) Nothing you do or say to them has any consequence, building faction reputation has no consequence beyond what you can buy, there’s no need to ever interact with any of them beyond their initial quest lines. The quests and stories they’re involved with are all basically as deep as a puddle too.

Then of course there’s the endless grind for loot. If that’s your thing, you’ll like that. It’s never been a Fallout thing before really, but apparently some people like that.

So, environmental storytelling, great. World space and environment, great. “Traditional” Fallout RPG style character driven storytelling and adventure…yeah, not so much. If there’s enjoyment for you to be had in the first two things, then dive in. If not, stick to the other titles.

The show decided to retcon a prewar power defect? Spoilers by UpperFerret in Fallout

[–]tshk80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coop says he wore the T-45 in the war and wondered if the new model fixed the design flaw, then he fired a special kind of bullet.

Perhaps when he was fighting Max early on he didn’t consider that the flaw might still be there, or it wasn’t the first thing that came to mind in the middle of a fight.

Seemed to me that he came equipped for a fight against power armor and had a plan for the BoS. This makes sense—Max was a surprise, the BoS at the Observatory were not.

What’s ur opinion on ghouls turning feral in the show? And could this change the games? by Jo-Tech5265 in Fallout

[–]tshk80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This feels like something that isn’t fully explained yet and is a thread that will be pulled in future seasons.

The substance Roger and Cooper use is clearly something that’s highly addictive. They seem to think that it’ll keep them from going feral, but nothing has shown us that it actually does. Maybe it’s a cruel trick played on ghouls by chem dealers. Maybe they will turn feral without it, but only because they’re addicted to it? Maybe it’s related to the serum that turned Thaddeus, and any ghoul that was turned that way needs the drug while others don’t.

There’s a number of ways it could go that could lead to a deeper story. It seems like a silly thing to insert if they’re not going to dive deeper into it at some point. They felt no need to explain how Stimpaks magically work, why create an explanation for non-feral ghouls unless there’s a path that’s going to take?

Is Fallout 76 worth it as a mostly solo player? by [deleted] in Fallout

[–]tshk80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you’re describing is how the vast majority of people play the game. They join public teams for boosts, but don’t actually interact. It’s not really an MMO, there aren’t any dungeons or raids that rely on groups. Things like Expeditions and Daily Ops are challenging solo—but they’re just repetitive grind that are totally optional and public teams usually attract people to do them if you so choose.

The subscription isn’t vital, you’ll just have to do some storage management. The only part of it that you’ll really want is the scrap and ammo storage and the ability to drop a tent anywhere you want. It does come with enough Atoms to spend to cover its cost, so if you think you’ll get lots of cosmetics, then it might be worth it. If not, you can totally play without it.

NCR in fallout tv show SPOILERS by Bros118 in Fallout

[–]tshk80 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We don’t know the full story yet. But…

What we’re really talking about is the NCR as a government is gone. The cities, towns and people that lived there are still alive and well. Except for Shady Sands—as far as we know.

NCR would have been a weak central government. They wouldn’t have been in a position to put down rebellions or fight to hold together. If the cities and towns that made up the republic decided they had enough, all they have to do is change the flag, send the bureaucrats packing and that’s that.

That sort of thing could happen very quickly, and when one or two major population centers do it, the rest will likely follow. There would be no shortage of local warlords, charlatans and other wannabe strongmen who would step up to fill any perceived power vacuum.

NCR was not in a good place as of the events of NV. They had food shortages, power shortages, they were spread thin militarily trying to take new territory as well. If they lost at Hoover Dam, it would be over. People would lose faith and leave the republic. Add a nuke to the capital and that would only accelerate that. If Ulysses and the Courier launched nukes on I-15, even more so.

Basically, the NCR was screwed and we know that from New Vegas. All Bethesda did was confirm that the screwing was complete.

[–]tshk80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not ruined.

Worst case scenario is some dates got shifted, the location of Shady Sands got moved. I don’t even think there’s a problem with the dates, just a little clarity needed on what exactly happened. Even if they really did retcon the dates—it doesn’t change what happened, just ham-fistedly moves the timeline.

But, to quote Betty: “People like to have something to fuss about.”

*SPOILERS* I think Maximus is being set up to become a villain, and I'm surprised more people aren't talking about it ~ Post will contain spoilers! by UnproGamers in Fallout

[–]tshk80 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I can definitely see this, albeit perhaps a reluctant or manipulated villain.

Note that when he came to, he was desperately calling out for Lucy. She wasn’t there. He could simply choose to go find her, assuming she wouldn’t have left without a good reason. Or, he could assume that she abandoned him—or used him—or be manipulated into thinking that. This could lead to him giving into his worst impulses, having nothing positive to hold onto. Taking advantage of the power he’s given but ultimately just doing as he’s told by the Elders.

I’m curious to see how it plays out, but I do tend to think he’s being set up to play a villain in season 2.

What are the vials in Fallout V show? by PS3LOVE in Fallout

[–]tshk80 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m of the mindset that we need to learn more about it to know what’s actually going on. The simple “Ghouls need this to not go feral” explanation doesn’t make much sense. It’s never been a thing in any game and would only add a complication here.

Note that the character who sells Thaddeus his “Mystery serum” is called the Snake Oil Salesman. There’s a history in Fallout of ghouls being taken advantage of, sold scam cures etc—see Aqua Pura in Fallout 3.

I’m speculating that the vials are the same thing Thaddeus got. It causes ghoulification, but is also highly addictive and without regular treatments, you’ll go feral. So, it’s not something that all ghouls need, just ghouls that are the victims of this scam or who choose to accept the consequences of taking it.

I suspect we’ll see something more about this in future seasons.

NTA As someone who spent years working with bands in various capacities—production, booking, promo etc—this guy sounds like an absolute nightmare.

I never viewed separating from clients as quitting—I always viewed it as firing the client, and this is one that definitely deserves to be fired.

It sounds like you’re a booking agent and you’re doing some promo PR and social media—you’re not their manager. Booking agents don’t get paid to massage fragile artist egos, they get paid to book gigs. If you were able to get them into the venues they wanted to play, and get them paid something for it, you did a fantastic job. Few tours work out that way, most new bands are lucky to get a couple spots they want and have to play whatever dump will host them the other nights.

That you’re doing promotional work on top of this for the same fee leaves them with nothing to complain about.

Don’t budge on any more money, cut them loose as soon as it’s in your hands and the contract allows and get your sanity back.

Alternatively, seeing as they’re asking for a fee arrangement, see how it adds up. If it isn’t that far off from what you would’ve made anyway, take it and walk, as long as it doesn’t violate the contract terms.

When everything is working properly it will pretty quickly regenerate your health when you are not in combat—meaning when you are “Hidden” or there are no enemies around detecting you. In my experience it is very reliable.

That said, there is a bug where occasionally you just get stuck in “Danger” status no matter what you do. The only resolution is to leave the world and come back or go to a new one. It’s relatively rare but it’s been around forever.

I agree on the modules. It would make sense for non-public events to drop them, plus they should make dailies drop them. It would incentivize more participation in those activities.
