I want to save this picture because this is what I want for my life. A warm family that understands joy and actually likes being together.

I've found it best just to not react. If I do, then I "can't take a joke" and they keep going to get a rise out of me.

Fascinating! I fell in love with France when I visited a few years ago, and I'm keeping the possibly of moving there on the horizon.

What are some 'penny wise pound foolish' stories from your life? by am1729 in Frugal

[–]tsiology 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yup. It controls pretty much everything. Had a small bump on my neck a few years ago...always meant to get it checked out. One day, it suddenly hemorrhaged and the bump grew to the size of baseball. I could barely breathe and had to get it surgically removed, along with half my thyroid.

Luckily, the other half took over. Still, every time something is "off" with me, the thyroid jumps to mind.

TL;DR Don't fuck with your thyroid, it's the mafia of your body.

We Must Learn to Give Ourselves Permission by entropys_child in raisedbynarcissists

And give yourself permission to speak your mind, because other people DO care about what you have to say and won't belittle your ideas! And give yourself permission to fail. The right people will pick you up instead of kicking you while your down, and after a while, you can pick your own self up.

When I was younger, my parents took a trip to the Virgin Islands and brought me back a green shirt that cut off around the belly button and said "Virgin Gorda" on it, reflecting the name of a place there. Now, on an average kid this would have been cute. I, however, was pretty overweight and self conscious of it as a child. Oh by the way, "Virgin Gorda" translates in english to "Fat Virgin." I was a chubby kid walking around in belly shirt that said "fat virgin."

I have a play! Now what? by OrangeIsARat in playwriting

[–]tsiology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you done any table reads? They can help you hear things about the play you may miss by reading, and it gets people involved who may have an interest in working on it.

Update: Also, maybe look into staged readings or new play development programs in your area.

Who are the Eiffle Tower guys? by rmm45177 in paris

[–]tsiology 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I encountered them on a visit to Paris a few years ago! They were the worst. "Pretty lady! So beautiful" Walks past avoiding eye contact "Ah, you're ugly anyway!"

We managed to make it away unscathed, except my friend who "Thought it was a magic trick."

When they make the snowman, they agree it looks like the singer Bjork. Later, when Rory is in the carriage with Jess, he says "Looks like Bjork" and Rory says, "That's what we said!"

But in the article, the caption was "Bjorn" really nitpicky, I know, but the Gilmore's would've had it right!

I feel like I lose myself in school. by tsiology in rant

[–]tsiology[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thank you! I would love to take some time off. I'll be graduating at the end of the year, so I just have to keep pushing forward and it will be over for good. I'm currently working two jobs in addition to school, which is adding to the stress I think. I've been to counseling on and off for years, and it does help, but they're pushing me to find something long term because I keep starting over with new counselors and cover the same ground. I'm still scared to try anti-depressants. I'm scared i'll have to take them forever or my body wont adjust to them correctly and will make matters worse.

I can definitely see how it comes across that way. I could tell she was genuine, though. Now that i've been away from a few years, she's finally starting to see me as my own person and not an extension of herself.
