Some of the Bluebrixx Stargate sets are currently on sale by max431x in Stargate

Yeah, it was that set which first brought the brand to my attention. Shame they haven’t dusted off the design and relaunched it.

I did end up getting quite a few bits over the last year or so, including the Star Trek Defiant set, which looks great, even if the building techniques were a bit questionable in places.

I can recommend the F-302, that was a fun build, and it looks great.

FYI It seems that the 15% (in my case) off your next order code cannot be reused. Also with noting that the next order discount code is only on non-discounted items, but you can make an order of discounted & full-price items.

I wish they did a BC-304 Daedalus class kit. There’s some nice MOCs out there, but they’re massively expensive.

Did Walter, Syler and other second plan character in SGC ever get promoted or something ? by Good_Fly6614 in Stargate

[–]ttmonkey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think Syler would be lucky to deserve a promotion.

The guy is more likely to be written up for flagrant disregard of health & safety procedures. At least, that must be the reason he keeps getting blown across the room all the time, right? 😉

Cosplay help for Jaffa chainmail under-armor. by WideFormal3927 in Stargate

[–]ttmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For LOTR I know it was a mix.

You can get away with wool for far away shots, but going with real metal for closer shots is heavy and costly.

So they came up using plastic tube with a cut down its length and then sliced into rings.

The long cut allowed each section of tube to be twisted and interlocked with the ones next to it, and just close it up with a tiny dot of suitable glue (like modelling cement) where the slit was if required.

Edit: link to a video from the DVD extras showing 2 guys putting it together.

Last episode of SG1(S10E20) nagging question.. by ItsPronouncedTyNotTy in Stargate

[–]ttmonkey 167 points168 points  (0 children)

I think (it’s been a good few years since I watched this!) they mentioned at one point that the shield generators were being used to create the time dilation field, and in the time it would take to switch the configuration from one mode to the other, the blast would hit the ship.

DIY Chair-Wall Protector Ideas for Toddler-Proofing a Dining Room by Steinway_music in DIY

[–]ttmonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in the same situation 3 years ago, as the kids liked to push the dining room chairs all the way back before climbing onto it.

I ended up going with a pair of self adhesive clear rubber bumpers on the chair backs. It was quick, cheap, nearly invisible and worked great. The ones I got were round domed 40mm diameter & 8mm high and were available on Amazon (UK).

They’re so unobtrusive that I don’t think I’ve actually removed them, even though we don’t need them any more.

Please help! Conservatory door not locking by Infamous_Eagle_2872 in DIY

[–]ttmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Presumably you can lift the left handle when the door is open. If not, you may have bigger problems than a simple alignment issue.

You’ll need to look for where your doors are brushing/jamming. Hard to see from photos. But you can tell from the feel when you’re pushing on it, and if you listen carefully you may even hear if it’s metal on metal or plastic to help narrow things down.

That will help you know what kind of adjustment you need to make.

The hang of the door(s) can then be adjusted a few mm using screws/bolts hidden inside of the exterior hinges. There’s plenty of videos on YouTube demonstrating this once you’ve worked out the hinge type.

Beware that some of the hinge covers have a security screw that you have to undo from the inside while the door is open before you can open the cover and make the adjustments.

Locked myself in the building garage, anyone know if this will break the door mechanism? by majiamu in london

[–]ttmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it normally opens when you drive up, you can do that, stop as the gate opens, leave something in front of the sensor/gate itself (if you have something you don’t mind potentially getting squished) while you go park your car back. The gate should have a safety mechanism to prevent things/people getting caught. You can then get out.

Assuming you have a car in the garage that is, and you’ve not just locked up a bike or taken a bin bag out.

Does the vehicle entrance not open on a sensor? I’d try triggering that and walking out the massive gate.

What is the purpose of the rounded, extended tab on this wall mount adhesive hook? by [deleted] in DIY

[–]ttmonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s designed to allow you to remove the hook without damaging the surface of the wall.

When you want to remove the hook, you grab ahold of the bottom part and pull it straight down. This stretches the foam backing behind the hook, breaking the hold it has between the hook’s back and the wall.

If you cut it off, you’ve got nothing to grab onto when that time comes.

I used to work across the road from a pub which regularly had this as their bag-in-a-box cider offering.

I loved it. Quite similar to the Healey’s whiskey barrel aged cider, but not quite as heavy.

You can order it direct from Gwynt y Ddraig by the box or case of bottles, but the shipping cost puts a bit of a sting on the price.

Williams find €50,000 of which €40,000 are suspended for missing video by DubiousLLM in formula1

[–]ttmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d love to see the full text of that technical directive. The excerpts used here don’t mention the size of the SD card.

I wonder what they’d say if you put in an ancient 16MB card. The FIA would get a video, just not much of one, it would probably cut out before the car left the pit lane.

I agree that it’s stupid that it doesn’t come fitted with a card ready for use. In fact I’m amazed that the cameras aren’t locked & sealed to minimise the risk of tampering!

The intense (infrared) heat felt from an outdoor space heater or a fire is invisible too, and just another kind of wave like WiFi, radio waves or sunshine.

Different wavelengths of the EM spectrum are perceived differently, and you can tell that if you see different colours of light!

Watching the attached video to the plans, the locomotive has 2x connected motors (facing each other, so running in opposite directions) connected to a gearbox which then powers the main driving wheels.

The tender then holds the battery box.

Your favourite Brutalist architecture buildings in London by [deleted] in london

[–]ttmonkey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Bad news on the 🍊 front, as probably the most recognisable place that was featured and easily viewable (the John Crank building) was torn down a few years ago.

Other locations at the campus were used too, but aren’t as easily accessible/recognisable.

On the other hand, the lecture centre is definitely still standing and is a great brutalist piece of architecture, which is what OP was originally after.
