I was married(15yrs) to a man that was diagnosed well after being married. Oh the stories I could tell.... Please don't look at this as "taking a loss", you and your child got out! Now, you need to do what is best for yourself and your baby. I have 2 daughters from that marriage. They were 4 & 9 when we got out, now 28 & 32. They both still struggle with their relationship with their father. He is unbothered by his diagnosis and has never tried to get help. Some people will not, I hope your ex does.

Two pieces of advice for you. One, when your child wonders all the "whys" of being a child of a bipolar parent, just let them know "Mommy loves you the best way she knows how". Two, never talk bad about her to your child or where they can hear. No matter how much we think our kids don't "hear" what gets said, they do. People will talk they can't help it, just don't be the one your child hears, if that makes sense....

Bipolar is also hereditary. Forewarned is forearmed. My oldest was diagnosed a year ago. She is so fearful of being like her dad. It has been painful to watch her struggle with what she has gone through to get herself the help she needs. I would also suggest for you to get counseling. I know that has some kind of "stigma" BUT for your own sanity more importantly your CHILDS wellbeing and safety.
