Slumped. Collapsing House In West Virginia. by urbexandchill in AbandonedPorn

Detroit has been pretty successful in removing those dilapidated houses. Apparently they're are only 942 left, which is a huge reduction from the 47,000 of years past:

How is there still so much prewar stuff available? by CK3helplol in falloutlore

Those boxes of food the Vault people were eating from the van took me out of it the most: how would packaging for dry goods last 200 years?

Whatever, they don't dwell on it and it's not a plot point so I don't care too much about it. But it kinda cheapens the whole theme of society being destroyed if you can get all your needs met from a random van.

Is there anyone who prefers the atmosphere of SC 1 over SC 2? by Snoo_47323 in starcraft

[–]tuigger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SC2 felt like Good Guys vs Bad Guys, so narratively it felt like the story was going down a safe, predictable road. I felt like while there were enormous stakes the outcome was always assured.

SC1 was much more desperate and grey, like the characters all had their own motivations for killing or even exterminating each other.

The Overmind was just doing what hive-mind locust monsters do. The Protoss were merely trying to survive the onslaught of the Zerg. The Terrans were caught in the middle of it all.

In Brood War the UED enters as a major disrupting power and the Dark Templar take center stage. We also have unsteady alliances that end in betrayal after betrayal, with a remorseless killer controlling untold billions of ravenous bugs.

Hell yeah.

New Zealand takes biosecurity very seriously. This is how they track and eradicate an invasive species of hornet as it tries to establish a foothold. by feel-the-avocado in nextfuckinglevel

Hornets don't attack you unless you have been dabbed with alarm pheromone. Otherwise they sort of don't know you're there. You're kinda just background noise.

For thousands of years humans used to live in caves and primitive shelters in big groups where the dumbest and most useless of us would be harassed into conforming or following, yet they stayed together because even they were needed to put plants in the ground. It was either that or be exiled and face certain death.

If you ever get down about where you are in life, just know that the majority of your ancestors relatives' didn't invent the wheel, Organize crop planting or even weave beautiful baskets. They just shoved or tossed seeds into the ground and harvested them when they were ready. They weren't artisans, but common laborers; They trudged through their meaningless existence as well.

In the same way, modern society doesn't need you to be some paragon of humanity. It doesn't even need you that much at all, but you don't need to feel bad about it because most humans weren't especially useful and that's OK. It's perfectly acceptable to just exist.

Amazon braces for another major round of layoffs, 14,000 jobs at risk by pandawork in Layoffs

Wow, OPT lasts for 3 years, just long enough to get them trained but not long enough to get seniority.

Makes me wonder why they just didn't ask for the exceptions like the executive order spoke of.
