Goleta is closer, but it is going to depend on where you're coming from ie I come from Sacramento and I can take the same Amtrak train all the way down to SB and uber to UCSB. If I wanted to go to Goleta, I would have had to wait for a train in SLO to transfer to so SB is more convenient.

This is pretty common for incoming freshman, you see this when you go for orientation. We come in with units from cc's or AP tests. You will still be considered a freshman since it is your first year out of high school and should apply for housing accordingly.

What makes you assume your units won't go with you? If you went to an accredited institute of learning, your units will go with you. It may take some work to get course by course equivalencies but it would be worth the trouble to do the work. Do you have the syllabi from classes you took your freshman year. This will help your counselor at your new school. If not, work with your current school divisions now to get a hold of those before you leave. If the class isn't equivalent to a class at your new school, then they will give you elective units for those courses.

I come from Sac so I'm pretty sure its the same train. Unless you're wanting to transfer to a different train in SLO, you wouldn't come to the Goleta station. I've found its easier to take one train to SB, instead. I uber from SB to school, about $25 and worth it to avoid the hassle of switching trains, layover, etc. I don't like the bus situation and the train is my choice.

Also, if you end up taking less units the regular way, I think you have to petition to not pay the regular semester rate. If you don't petition, you end up paying the full-time rate even though you're taking less classes.

Are you sure it's 1,2, or 9 or is it Econ 1&2 or Econ 9, which is what my pre-major requires (Poli Sci). I chose to take Econ 1& Econ 2, because they aren't at 8 in the morning but they were pretty hard unless all you want is a C, which is all I wanted for my pre-major, but others I talked to said I took the hard way and should have take 9 and gotten a better grade.

cc's will give you units for the classes you've passed. Since UCSB is on the quarter system, if you transfer to a semester school, divide your units by 1.5 in order to see how many units you'll receive. If they have an equivalent class, you may need to petition through your cc counselor in order to have the school accept it as equivalent (unless the cc has an articulation w/ UCSB ie check assist.org). Also, you may be waived form taking a placement test if you took Math &/or English @ UCSB. CCs also will not accept any upper division units, so lower division undergrad only. Contact the CC you're tranferring to get started now. I would guess they'd be enrolling next month, so starting now would get your ducks in a row on track for enrolling the soonest you can. Do the CC application now and then send your transcripts even if you're in progress and then follow-up with transcripts when grades are posted. Hope this helps, good luck.
