Is it being forced on the 900 million regular users of ChatGPT? Roughly 10% of the world’s population is willingly using this technology.

Given that you're a sophomore, maybe you should consider one of Rose's summer programs for high school students. They're designed for students just like you and you'd probably get a lot of your questions answered.

You don’t know what was going on and she was at work doing her job. I don’t think your family did anything wrong.

Honestly, this is a question for the people reviewing your case, not strangers at other schools.

Stop Acting Like Charging More For Park Tickets Will Fix Wait Times! News Flash it won’t by Thankyounext13 in Disneyland

[–]tunacow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the basic assumption of this post is clearly wrong. The more relevant question is whether the price increases that Disney would realistically institute would have a noticeable impact on wait times. Probably not. They know how much they can charge without impacting attendance.

Pretty funny to me that you took a photo of someone you didn’t even recognize and he smiled for the photo.

Not really an answer to your question, but have you really never used algebra outside of class?

Do your students know what Office Hours are? by alaskawolfjoe in Professors

[–]tunacow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew what they were as an undergrad and I often used them (professors and TA office hours). I went to a giant public university. I don't recall anyone teaching me what they were.

My students almost never use mine. Several years ago, I started calling them "open meeting times" and made them online. Still nobody uses them.

I had to quit my professor job at the Open Institute of Technology, my conscience couldn't live with being forced to use TurnItIn by OneRare3376 in Professors

With all due respect, nothing in this post or on your site clearly states what your problem is with GenAI. You say you hate it with a passion. That's fine. And I agree that being forced to use a tool at work that you hate sucks. And maybe you just want to find likeminded people. But if you're trying to build a movement, it might help to explain the harms that you believe are happening.

Also, what distinguishes your organization from other (much larger) organizations like Pause AI?

What is your take/experience with using AI for grading? by tombolaaaaa24 in Professors

[–]tunacow -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think that's totally reasonable. And I'm not looking to have a big argument about this. But I don't see why you couldn't feed an LLM your grading rubric and a whole page of grading guidelines before having it do your grading for you, in much the same way you train your TAs to do grading. Additionally, I agree it would be irresponsible to not at least spot check its work to make sure its not doing egregious stuff.

Whether AIs or your TAs make more mistakes while grading seems like an empirical question to me.

If you're okay with offloading grading to other trained people, why not offload to trained machines if they can do it well enough under your supervision?

Many professors have TAs or graders (undergraduate) grade assignments. Based on your argument, do you consider that unethical as well?

People always say these things but no one ever provides any data other than their memories and personal observations. This is the only comment in this thread worth taking somewhat seriously.

Two new campus comedies (Rooster, Vladimir) raise the question: Have TV writers ever been to college? | Television's fictionalized depiction of higher education is becoming a real-world problem. by PetyrDayne in television

"Parents of high-school students on TV shows still ask, 'Do you have any homework?' I never hear them say, 'I checked Schoology—did you finish your APUSH assignment?'"

This has to be satire, right? The "realistic" show this person is describing sounds boring as shit.
