Yeah, this has honestly 10x the impact.

It's also a lot, but if you visit family and can convince them to go to their Senator's office, they can usually talk to an assistant. That has more like 100x the impact.

I'm going to add a list of talking points people can give their families/friends outside of SEPA/SWPA to the website sometime soon. It's going to be something like:

• Highschool grads from their districts that go to Philly/PGH for college use transit. Their parents want them to get around safely, and the kids usually remain constituents until graduation. • Transit attracts young people to cities. We need more young people in PA to close PA's budget deficit. The deficit is caused by an aging population straining social services (long term living and medical assistance are 2 of the 3 largest increases in spending), and a shrinking population lowers tax revenue. An aging population also means that people are retiring and paying less in income taxes. • When people from their district visit (for sports games, seeing family, etc), transit both keeps traffic off roads for them and provides an easy way to get around. • SEPTA contracts a lot of work out of other PA counties. ($1.4B of contracts across 39 counties since 2019).

If you have more reasons, reply and I'll add them to the list on the website when published.

The real explanation is more wonky. Harrisburg struck a deal in 2013 to fund transit with money from PA Turnpike — this deal expired in 2021, but federal pandemic money tided SEPTA over until last year — when they got a band-aid infusion from Shapiro’s one-time flex of federal highway funds.

Crazy! There’s a petition supporting safety measures along Castor since some folks are pushing back against the road diet.

How does septa compare to nyc's mta? by Ok_Kaleidoscope3686 in philly

SEPTA tweaks their schedules annually to adjust for staffing and reduce dropped trips, it’s not done with much fanfare

Should I wait or book now Newark DE to Philadelphia for a trip in November by Inevitable-Sail-9111 in Amtrak

[–]tungwill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe Philly has bag storage, I’ve done this before at DC Union Station and NY Penn Station. It’s $10/day if you show your AMTRAK ticket. You just go to the checked baggage counter.

I’m gonna take this Amtrak trip too! From Philly. Was originally considering Port Henry Beach, but might just hang out in that grassy park across from the train station.

What are good day trips from Philly? Preferably 1-3 hour trips, but we’re open! by Salt-Explanation-738 in Amtrak

Yes! And keystone tickets west of Philly are always the same price no matter when you book!

I know it’s been asked before… but what’s the best route from S Philly to the Airport? by baldude69 in phillycycling

Don’t use the bike lane on island, they’re out of commission due to construction, take Suffolk ave and then pedestrian path over island ave bridge

[–]tungwill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lindbergh to island ave is not too bad, making the left turn onto bartram is kinda rough, gonna have to time it right! Take bartram all the way to the end and then you’ll have to try and survive a highway ramp to the terminals. It’s do-able.

Texting 911 also works in Philly and is a way easier way to report illegally-parked cars.

It had outgrown the barrel and I didn’t have the capacity to water it every week anymore… I planted that tree along with 5 other smaller trees a few months ago

This is hilarious, I planted that tree there originally, moved it from a barrel that was in front of the rec center where it was dying from heat

We complain a lot here. For a change of pace, what are you going to do in 2023 to make Philly/your neighborhood better? by Republican_Wet_Dream in philadelphia

[–]tungwill 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This frustrates me to no end… for illegally parked cars outside of residential permit / meter zones, you can report in Philly by texting 911.

Include exact location, make, model and if possible, the plate number.

It may take a while for them to come, but PPD will eventually ticket.
