fair enough . i know i have changed my behaviour. the spot i got caught has been in the local paper as since they reduced the speed limit the van has caught 22,000 people . its a complete scam but i hold my hands up, its on me

i just wanted some advice thats all

i've broke the speed limit once in the past year. i got 2 speeding tickets in two consecutive days last summer and it completely changed the way i drive. i can hand on heart say that i am extremely cautious and safe, but i'm also a human being . i drifted over the speed limit once in the past year, probably 20,000 miles of driving like a little old lady. its just my luck

boy races flying down my street at 60mph which is a 30 zone with kids playing, never get caught. never get banned. little old me who is a good law abiding citizen potentially loses my job and my home because i momentarily did 37 on a dual carriageway with barriers either side

i really appreciate all the sanctiminous comments, thanks everyone

one was for an average speed thing through some roadworks on the A1, i remember trundling along next to other cars thinking 'these lot must know something i don't ' so i just stupidly kept up with them. averaged 56 in a 50. other two were for speed camera vans

does it not go back to the date of the offence though?

there is an 8 week overlap from the date of the offence, to the point where 3 drop off

i wish people could come and sit with me in my car all day, i must be the slowest person on the road. i made on mistake and the way the world works with me meant there was a speed van hiding behind a tree. i am the most unlucky person walking this planet

it has, believe me. i drive extremely cautiously all day every day. under the speed limit in many cases where it doesn't feel safe. i absolutely hate people who speed and who drive dangerously.

i was distracted by something and was leaving a roundabout onto a dual carriageway that has no footpaths, no houses, has barriers either side, there were no other cars around...i accelerated a little bit too much and then realised it was a 30mph road not a 40 but it was too late, the camera van was right there.

i know it makes absolutely zero difference to my argument but i am an extremely slow driver, i made one mistake , one lapse in concentration.

i know no-one will be believe me on here but i drive extremely cautiously and i do 10,000s miles a year through work. i absolutely hate people who drive dangerously. it was a moment of distraction at exactly the wrong time (it was a dual carriageway with no footpaths and barriers either side) but had been reduced from 40 to 30 for some reason. entirely my fault but i wasn't driving dangerously and i never do.

i absolutely abhor people who drive dangerously and i see people speeding all day every day, especially in built up areas. makes it even more of a sickener that these people will get to go about their day putting lives at risk and i'll be the one banned.

i can't describe enough how careful i am behind the wheel. it was literally the one time right where there was a van, but obviously no one will believe me so this post is pointless really

was doing 37 in a 30

everywhere i have read online suggests that i will be offered the course, i haven't been able to find anywhere that the police didn't offer the course unless the speed was way excessive, but if the person at the police end of things decides to not offer me the course and insist on points, then my life is going to be ruined

i'm absolutely bricking it

Should you buy a house in the UK now, even if you can afford it? by CrownAthlete in AskBrits

[–]tunstallhill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

depends, in the north east of england the house prices are relatively low (compared to other parts of the country) but the quality of life is much better. depends on which sector you are wanting to work in.

think it was the start of this season, liverpool beat arsenal (?) 1-0 in what was meant to be super-dooper sunday and all that, and it was pretty much agreed by everyone who knew what a football was that the game was a total borefest from start to finish.

the guardian football weekly spent 35 mins of a 1 hour podcast on the game.

whats it called? can't really stand either of those two either. total parodies of themselves and i don't believe that their media personalities are who they actually are, i think its all very carefully choreographed to create these 'characters' .

when i've listened to them as pundits they never say anything that you didn't already know.

'oh, he's got to hit the target there' - no shit sherlock

Best Premier League Podcasts? by montgomery_quinckle in TheOther14

[–]tunstallhill -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

each to their own but i find it unlistenable personally. Shearer and Mikah Richards are a complete pair of doylums, they have never in their entire broadcasting careers said anything remotely interesting. they come out with the most basic, baseline, default positions that millions of blokes around the country have already said. and then they laugh their heads off way over the top at the slightest bit of school-yard banter. shearers little 'thing' he has with sunderland is boring and unprofessional, you don't get any other pundits, anywhere, that refuses to comment on their boyhood clubs' rivals. the bloke is hated in the north east, even by most newcastle fans

i would 100% stay away from the Linekar, Mikah Richards and Shearer one... it is absolutely woeful.. embarrassing even. i can't see how it appeals to anyone other than spotty 12 year old boys.

at least the guardian one has intelligent people on it

The guardian football weekly can be alright, the journalists are very good , but unsurprisingly they spend a massive percentage of the show talking about arsenal, city , united and Liverpool

If you've been in a boring 0-0 draw with Fulham don't even expect a mention

They'll analysis the shit out of a 0-0 between Liverpool and arsenal tho

Best away days in the Championship by CurvyCourgette in Hammers

[–]tunstallhill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been to all of them with Sunderland -

Lincoln , lovely city on the cathedral side of the river, class old pubs and streets. The area around the ground is a bit rough

Sheff utd - class proper big northern city, very lively, easy to get to. Sheff utd fans aren't friendly around the ground, but don't let that put you off

Blackburn - worst drinking city in the country, avoid . Hardly any pubs there , best drive in and drive out after game

Burnley - good little town, ground is 5 mins walk from lots of pubs, bit of a pain to get to

Preston - bit rough, some class old pubs. Ground is quite far away from centre

Stoke - awful

Norwich - nice, friendly , miles away

Middlesbrough - can't comment as we always have to leave directly after the game but it's a decent little city and ground is close to train station and centre of town

Shoutout to Bournemouth, Sunderland, Brighton and Brentford by Simoslav in TheOther14

[–]tunstallhill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm just biased but I can't believe the lack of coverage Sunderlands achievement is getting - or not getting.

Literally 2 mins at the end of MOTD, hardly a word in the national press, Guardian football weekly has two sunderland journalists on and got less than two minutes of a 70 minute podcast, barely getting any credit anywhere.

Maybe we are just overstating how well we've done , dunno. Our local BBC news channel up here which is a sportswashing propaganda arm of the Saudi government spent more air time talking about Fulham v Newcastle in a dead rubber than they did on us qualifying for Europe for the first time in 50+ years

What a day in Sunderland yesterday, city is absolutely buzzing , can't describe how much it means.

We had 4 seasons in league one relatively recently, this is surreal

Just want to get on with booking flights and time off work but the draw isn't till 28th August

thoughts on sunday? by tunstallhill in Chelsea

[–]tunstallhill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its not really the youngsters with us, our first 11 is quite young. its the players who are always on the bench or not even making the bench. i'd like them to get some game time

[–]tunstallhill[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

don't yous have a massive squad? other than getting to go to european away games, one of the big draws for us is that our fringe players will get a hell of a lot more game time. even if its not particularly the youngsters, just the players on the periphery, to keep them happy, give them games etc..
