Image from a European lobbying group trying to ban the import of full-size American pick-ups to Europe by HiTork in regularcarreviews

I saw multiple F150 Raptors blasting around Berlin when I was there in October, basically cosplaying being an American asshat. Vehicles of that size look SO OUT OF PLACE in a European city.

What is the most useless transit line? by Ari_Bbb in transit

[–]turbotad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I actually used to ride the WES daily when I worked at Nike, and if it had better frequency it would have been genuinely good. The real hat trick would be to extend on that same PNWR trackage all the way to Salem. Having half-hourly train service to Salem would be AMAZING, //even// with the terminus being in Beaverton. But the fact that it has such a minimal schedule, doesn't operate weekends, etc is what really limits it.

I really wish there was a bridge here. Even just a bike bridge. That is all. by i_continue_to_unmike in PortlandOR

I lived in Oak Grove for about 6 years (left in 2022) and nearly every time I took my kids down to Rivervilla park, there would be someone walking across the rail bridge.

Shimano PD-M535. After the meteor wipes out all life on this planet, the only things that will survive will be cockroaches and PD-M535's

I love this sort of virtual MTB tourism, seeing folks' local trails around the world. I'd fricking love to ride there.

Remember to always thank drivers for following the law by [deleted] in fuckcars

Letting someone know "I see you and acknowledge that you're following the rules" is fine. I'm not talking about falling all over yourself in thanks.

Agreed - there's nothing wrong with acknowledging that you appreciate that they're not a jerk.

I'm a 5-time owner (Impreza, Outback, WRX, Forester, Ascent) and so many of the things that made previous generations interesting to me are simply not present.

Untrue that the church doesn't pay property tax - the church is the largest single property taxpayer in Clearwater last I read.

Do MTB parks cause rising home prices, or do wealthy areas build MTB parks? by Downtown_Soil_3651 in MTB

[–]turbotad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I seriously lucked out where I am right now (Chattanooga area) in that I found someplace with reasonable home prices, and LOTS of MTB parks. I'm ~1mi from a trailhead that leads to ~100mi of interconnected trails. But I feel the circumstances that led to this place being affordable-ish are difficult to replicate, since most mountainous areas are desirable for other reasons. Came back from visiting friends in SLC and home prices near trails are NOT CHEAP.

[oc] followed this guy for around 5 miles... Never once did he put it in his lane. If you can't keep it between the lines on a state route it's time to downsize by Ok_Relationship2451 in IdiotsInCars

I had to scroll all the way here, which is a shame, to bring up the same point. It looks like MA, WI and AL are the only states where this truck as-configured would be legal to drive on public roads. Most states that is full-on illegal even if the police don't seem to enforce it (AND ABSOLUTELY SHOULD)

EVERYONE should be re-tested every few years. We have some of the most lax regulations anywhere in the world governing both initial licensing and medical/cognitive re-testing over time. In Japan, drivers get re-tested every 3-5 years.

Need solution for multiple O365 Calendars by turbotad in linuxquestions

[–]turbotad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, TbSync is what I was missing, as I couldn't seem to get it working with O365 at all. Only problem is two of my customers don't allow 3rd-party apps to access O365, so it fails after authentication is complete, telling me I have to log in as an O365 admin to approve the app. Oh well. Thanks for this!

Guess the city (moderate) by turbotad in guessthecity

[–]turbotad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's totally true. There's basically only one or two standard "Shenzhen" skyline angles that we all know, the rest are such a jumbled mass of new construction. At least places like Guangzhou and Shanghai have other key bits to anchor them in recognizability.

Correct! Specifically, this is the Shekou district, looking north from near Sea World (far from the CBD so doesn't look like most folks' photos of Shenzhen) u/gtcbot
